At the Conan Doyle, Edinburgh

A: A mysterious cloudy orange with suspicious half finger head that retreats into the mist Thick lacing, approaching Victorian curtains.

S: Citrus, oranges, corinader, musky, wheat. Blood, perhaps? No, Watson, that's coming from the body in the corner.

T: Dank and delicious. A cellar feel. Wheat, coriander, cloves. By Jove, this hits the spot. More clues, Holmes!

M: Medium with medium carbonation, providing a fine quaffable drink.

O: An excellent hefe. I shall require more intimate knowledge of this beast.
Better on tap. Had a sample at Top Of The Hops, Jackson, MS a week later and the cloves come on a bit too strong.

12 oz bottle dated on the 76th day of the year poured into a Franziskaner glass.

The body is hazy and golden with a big ol’ white head. Laces wonderfully.

Spice, banana, wheat, lemon, and a little must.

The nose is mimicked in the taste, but I feel it has a more defined yeast and wheat character going on which sticks around in the aftertaste.

Quite active carbonation yet still fairly smooth. Light- medium bodied.

12oz. bottle poured into my Hefe glass

A- Beautiful. A very cloudy yellow with orange highlights. Some carbonation can be seen coming from the bottom of the glass. A big, pillowy head which give a little lacing down the glass.

S- A slight astringent note on the nose. Clove, banana, a touch of bubble gum and yeasty funk is what I pick up.

T- This one really straddles the lines of Hefe flavors. Clove, banana, bubble gum, wheat notes, and yeasty funk. One doesn't dominate, and that's what I really love about Franzy.

M- Smooth, light carbonation, and it doesn't overly dry your mouth from any astringent qualities.

O- Likely my favorite of the "big" German Hefe's. Balance is the name of the game here.

A- pours a cloudy light golden color with orange and yellow hues. Frothy thick white head with a bit of lacing.

S- Lots of classic hefeweizen aromas, including banana and clove. A bit of wheat and yeast as well. Banana dominates above everything else.

T- Light lemon citrus hops, wheaty backbone, notes of banana, but not as noticable as in the smell, a hint of powdery clove, finsihes with a slightly tangy bite. Very well balanced.

M- Very creamy. Low, but crisp carbonation, medium bodied and very drinkable.

O- Very well balanced Hefe. A classic exemaple of the style and the mouthfeel is spot on.
