Meh. I bought this because I remembered drinking some great Oktoberfest brews in Munich this time about two years ago. Then I remembered that my sis and I mostly drank Paulaner's Oktoberfest.

Hard to compare, because this is coming out of a case that had to be shipped across the ocean... but I wasn't impressed with this beer. It LOOKS good... great big, beige, frothy, lingering head. Smells sweet.

Just not very complex, to me. It has a slightly acidic aftertaste. I wish it had some more hops, to balance out it's over-maltiness.

If you're looking for an Oktoberfestbier, might as well buy the Paulaner.

Appearance – This one is light orange in color and comes with a full, gorgeous, pillowy head.

Smell – The light molasses and malt notes were subdued but present. I could also pick up some sweet, sugary caramel.

Taste – I’ll call this the “Optimator Light”. It has all the same flavors except not as intense and full. The deep, rich toffee came out nicely along with some good sugar cane.

Mouthfeel – This medium-bodied Oktoberfest bier has great balance. It has a lot going on in the mouth, especially for a style not known for its complexity.

Drinkability – This is the real deal. The order of flavors – rich malt, molasses, caramel, toffee – was just right. I really enjoyed this offering from Spaten.

Liter consumed at Kavanaugh’s Esquire Club in Madison, WI.

Pours a solid copper with a thick white head that immediately dissipates to nothing. Visibly well carbonated.

Aroma is feint of caramel, must, and just a touch of German hops. I don’t find any toast.

Taste is also a bit of a let down. It’s not that there are bad things happening here. It’s just that there isn’t much at all going on here. Grainy with a floral finish but almost entirely lacking in toast and not sweet enough.

Mouthfeel: Light and aggressively carbonated. Clean and crisp.

Driunkability: Very high. Goes down like a light beer.

This is a tarnished copper color with a thin but fluffy eggshell colored head. The beer is virtually odorless to my nose. The flavor is pretty standard. Sweet, slightly biscuity malt, fruity hops, and a slightly metallic finish. This is exactly what I expect in an Oktoberfest. It is not bad but, I would much rather have a fresher, cheaper, one from an American brewer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a pint glass.

Pours a crystal clear dark caramel color. Initial pour had a decent soapy foam head of about 1-1/2 to 2 fingers deep, white, and didn't last long. Reduces quickly to a ring of white bubbles at the glass.

Very faint aromas of caramel malts and herbal grassy hops. Did I mention 'faint'? The aromas really aren't an impressive part of this brew.

Tastes are a touch malty, moderate malts, with a pretty good balance of hops. The slight sweetness is part of a solid flavor that stays together nicely though the whole tasting experience. Mouthfeel is a touch thinner or lighter than I expected with some pretty spritely carbonation. The finish goes a bit dry but there is still some of that moderate maltyness in the linger.

The overall experience is enjoyable and the drinkability is decent. Not the best Oktoberfest that I've ever had but it was enjoyable just the same.

Apperance was nice with a light amber color and a small white head that lasted and left decent lace down the glass. The smell had a certian grain and grass scent to it with not much else all, and the taste was simmilar. A mostly malty brew, this one did not have much in the way of hops or anyhting else. The mouthfeel was quite good though, with a good balance of carbonation and smoothness. Although this is not that exciting of a beer, it is easy to put back a few so I score it a little higher than others on the drinkability scale. But in the end, there are better Oktoberfest brews out there

Poured a dark copper body with a thin white head that fell to a cap. Faint aroma of sweet caramel malts and flowery hops. Mouthfeel was medium bodied with a crip carbonation. Flavors were sweet and refreshing with a hint of hop bitterness in the finish. Very good drinkability.

Pours from the green bottle a nice golden reddish orange color with a small white head. The smell is of caramel malts with some earthy tones and a bit of skunkiness as well.

The first sip is a creamy caramely nutty infusion. This was not what I was expecting from the weak smell. Quite complex and flavorful...this is a nice example of the Oktoberfest style.

Mouthfeel is right where it should be...a very nice consistency and not overly carbonated. Drinkability is good here as well. An all around tasty brew that I could drink many of. This is a great time of year for beer and Spaten adds to my enjoyment!

I wasn't expecting too much from Spaten Oktoberfestbier, after trying the snoozefest that is Spaten premium lager, but at $1.75/bottle at my local tavern, I figured what-the-hell.

This beer has that pleasant orangish-tint-of-fall hue going on. Oktoberfests are normally very attractive beers, and this one was no exception.

Being in smoky bar, I could not pick up any nose at all.

The taste was very solid and well-rounded. Not as bold or flavorful as Hacker-Pschoor's, but still a tasty treat.

I had another bottle before the night was over, so all in all I would rate this as a very drinkable beer.

A - Pours a clear copper with a finger or so of creamy off-white head. Head fades pretty quickly, leaving only scant lacing.

S - Toasted bready malts, faint floral hops and, thankfully, only a slight presence of green glass light struck funk. Clean simple and pleasant.

T - Similar to smell with very pronounced toasted malt and minimal hop presence. Pretty good but not among my favorite Oktoberfest beers.

M - Medium, clean mouthfeel wit a slighlty dry finish.

O - A decent Oktoberfest. Not sure if moving away from green glass would improve this or not. With the vast selection available in this style I probably won't get this again, but I wouldn't turn one down if offered.

A very drinkable beer, but it doesn't have the depth of flavor one would expect from an authentic German Oktoberfest bier. The appearance is great with a deep golden color. The aromas are exactly what you'd expect, but the flavors fall a bit short. It's better than most American impersonators, but it doesn't live up to it's appearance or the expectations of this "real deal" German Oktoberfest.

Presentation: It was poured from a green 12oz bottle into a dimpled mug.

Appearance: It had a dark brunt orange amber color which is very different from the light golden Spaten Oktoberfest that I remember enjoying a few years ago. The body had good clarity and the head was thin and faded fast leaving very little head or lace.

Smell: The aroma was light and had floral hops with a slight skunk popping out though sweet caramel and candy like malt notes. (My wife noted that is was like smartees candy.)

Taste/Mouth feel: It had a sweet candy like malt flavor with some mild floral hops. Hop bitterness was very light and coved up buy the sweetness of the malt. It finishes on the sweet side with hint of grassy hops. It was about medium bodied with a smooth texture and light carbonation.

Notes: Overall it was not bad but nothing like the lighter Spaten Oktoberfest that I remember which was very good.

Appearance - Pours a crystal clear amber color with a decent beige head that fizzles away after a minute or so.

Smell - some grains but mostly a very skunky smell. I have a feeling this bottle has some light-damage.

Taste - Very nice sweet caramel maltiness up front, breadiness, very subtle hop spiciness, finishes pretty clean with some yeastiness. No skunkiness in the taste..weird how the smell is mostly off but the flavor is great.

Mouthfeel - medium bodied, rolls around in the mouth, carbonation is spot on.

Drinkability - As long as I dont smell the beer, it tastes great and very drinkable. Good offering from Spaten. Prost!
