What can I say? I love this beer. Had to stop at Schnitzelhaus yesterday for dinner on the way home from The City Beer Store (where I didn't have time to taste - just bought). The menu listed "Oktoberfest beer." I asked the waiter which Oktoberfest beer. The matter-of-fact reply was, "Spaten - it's the best one." My .5 liter mug was the perfect match with my "light" meal of fried ham steak, potatoes and kraut.
Appearance - Dark Amber - almost red - with nice off white head
Smell - wonderful smell of malt and sugar.
Taste - malt and hint of sweetness. Slight hint of hops at the end.
Mouthfeel - balance.
Drinkability - perfect.
This is why I had a keg of this at my wedding.

Sampling right now on 4/13/14. Had this one many years ago on draught and it was great. Comes in a nice colorful 12 ounce bottle. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees in my beer cooler and poured into a pilsner flute glass.
Pours a pretty darker amber in color with about a 1-finger of a off-white head. Lacing was seen with each sip. The aroma is of caramel malts with a hint of light citrus. The taste is of sweet malts, biscuit (yeast) with some spice. Very tasty and goes down easy. A very light dry finish is noted. Overall, really like this one and not a big fan of Oktoberfest brews for the most part but this one is the exception for sure.

Pours translucent amber with 1/2 inch of off-white head that fades to a thin cap on top and leaves nice spotty lace.
Smell is somewhat muted and consists of grainy malt, Autumn spices and faint citrus.
Taste is of grains and malt with accents of cinnamon, clove and nutmeg with faint tart citrus on the finish.
Texture is medium bodied with high carbonation.
A decent, if not remarkable, effort. Easy drinking and sessionable.
