Poured from a 12oz bottle into a Sam Adams glass.
A- Transparent dark amber with orange and gold highlights. Decent head.
S- Not as much as I expected. Hint of spice and hops, slight caramel malt, not much cereal or bread. Skunky. Someone write Spaten and urge them to switch to brown bottles.
T- Slight fruitiness, dark caramel malt, nutty, some cereal midway through leading to a somewhat bitter hop flavor. Not anything like what I thought the smell would indicate. Still a bit of skunkiness but not as bad as others.
M- Coats the tongue a bit, mild carbonation, still a bit thin in the aftertaste.
D- The ABV is higher than many session beers but this is still a decent six-in-a-night beer. I expected a little bit better from Spaten though. I'd probably stick with their regular lager and switch to Hacker Schorr for an Oktoberfest.
