One of my favorite tasting beers. It looks unlike most other Oktoberfests I've tried, with a lighter color, but it still retains a decent head. It smells very sweet, with an almost fruity candy smell to it. Spaten Oktoberfest was the first Oktoberfest,a nd you can dell it in the taste. It makes all other Oktoberfests pale in comparison, clearly showing everything else is an imitation. Sweet, malty taste, it really embodies the fall in my mind. Mouthfeel is decent, much like most ales. Drinkability is average, seeing as how it is so sweet, it makes it hard to enjoy more than a few at a time. Every time fall comes around, I will look forward to enjoying more of this wonderful brew.

A: Color was a brownish-honey color. Fairly small head even with a hard pour which vanished quickly.
S: Very sweet with a slight citrus smell
T: Begins with a sweet citrus taste followed by a roasted malt flavor, and a little bitterness.
M: Medium, mostly carbonation.
D: Very good for the style.

A: poured a dark brown color with little head
S: Smelled kind of skunky
T: Had a skunky taste overall and bitterness afterward; could taste a little of the roasted malts
M: Lots of carbonation
D: Drinkable, but definitely not as easy to drink as other Oktoberfest beers.

A: Dark deep amber brown. Little head. Zero retention.
S: Sweet, slight hoppiness, citrus.
T: Roastiness, sweet, coffee, slightliy fruity, light hoppy and bitter aftertaste.
M: Watery, good amount of carbonation.
D: Good Octoberfest. I usually don't like the style but I would recommend trying it.

Picked this beer up during Oktoberfest 08. Pours a lovely dark amber-caramel colour. Very little head after the initial pour, very thin lacing thereafter. Quite a powerful hoppy almost bread-like smell that is fairly pleasant. Taste ranks highly alongside the look of this beer. A nice full beer flavour with some notes of yeast. Mouthfeel is thin but crisp on the tongue due to a strong carbonation. Excellent drinkability but should be consumed at an easy-going pace as it seemed to blow the head off me very quickly. Definitely a beer for fans of a good, strong tasting beer.

Looks good like an oktoberfest. Nice off-white long lastiong head that tops clear light brown liquid.

Smells malty and skunky

Tastes mostly skunky. There is some nice malt backbone that comes through after the skunk fades with each sip. There are not much of a hop presence.

Mouthfeel is nice light to medium body.

Not very drinkable really, I had trouble raching for this the last of the three I had.

A: Very clear amber color.

S: A light malty smell with a little caramel poking through.

T: Taste is pretty much that. A minimally sweet malty brew with a little caramel in there. Taste pretty much ends there. The carbonation is a little high too I thought. So much that it takes something away from this one.

D: I'm really not diggin' this one too much. I probably would buy this again.

There are just far better representatives of the style out there.

Had this on tap at the Yard House in Phoenix, AZ.

Poured a reddish-amber colored with lighter tints at the edges. Decent head and retention with adequate lacing throughout.

The aroma was a bit off putting. At first whiff there was a citrus scent, but I couldn't detect the hops; instead I detected a vinegar smell. I don't know if maybe this brew was skunked or old or if this is just how it comes naturally.

Taste was mellow, not much carbonation, felt a little flat but not too bad. The flavor was well balanced but nothing I would expect from an Oktoberfest brew; it was more reminiscent of an American macro brew lager.

Mouthfeel was alright, medium bodied with a slight hop taste lingering on your palate for a second. Couldn't really detect the high alcohol content (5.9%).

This Oktoberfest was an okay beer, but nothing great. If it's there, I'll have one but I wouldn't go out of my way to have another.

Picked up a 6 of this at my local grocery store.

Poured a golden brown with a finger of white foamy head. Retention is poor, lacing nonexistant.

Smells of light malt and grain. Nothing special.

Taste is fairly crisp, sharp and dry earthy hop with a mild sour malt.

Mouthfeel is fresh and crisp, light bodied, good carbonation.

Drinkability here is decent, not the best Oktoberfestbier I've had this year but for the price it'll do. Great with wings.

Pours a deep amber with a big foamy off-white head. Head falls very slow leaving plenty of lace.

Mild malts and grains in the nose. Also picking up a slight skunkiness.

Taste is of the malts and a bit of hops. Musty and earthy.

Medium bodied in the mouth and well carbonated.

Average beer. Fairly drinkable.

Served at cellar temps in 14 oz pint glass. Poured a bright amber with tight longlasting head and lacing. The aroma was dominated by a full malt aroma. This lager began sweet and smooth. The body was a bit lighter than I expected -perhaps a bit over carbonated. The finish dried out a bit, but the sweet malts had the last say. Perhaps a bit unbalanced for the style -more akin to a "lighter" Bock Bier. This is still a decent quaffing beer, but I think this Oktoberfest has been dumbed down for the mass beer market.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Appearance - Amber/copper color with very small head, very low retention. Head went away after a few seconds. Leaves some very small lacing.

Smell - Very malty, with a hint of hops. Has a bit of a strange note at the end - somewhat sour? Not overpoweringly bad, but different.

Taste - Very very sweet from the malt, and just a hint of hop bitterness at the end. You get a slight sourness as your aftertaste, but again nothing terrible.

Mouthfeel - Very, very smooth. Very good carbonation level, and light enough that you could easily drink a few of these.

Drinkability - Goes down very easy. Could definitely session.

Not a bad beer, but not the best example of the style either. Would definitely drink again.

Had this one first at a Halloween bonfire and was able to snag on for an at home reviewing.
Poured very light and clear, with a nice white head and lacing noticed on the sies of the glass.
Highly carbonated.
Smell was kingd of musty at first impression. Seemed like a mix of grassy like odor, not really coming from the hops.
Taste was ok in the feel, but seemed a little bit harsh. Slightly skunked maybe. Just a bit off.
Hops sre biting on the palate mixing with a mild malt backing.
Ok o-fest I guess, just not what I prefer.

12oz bottle poured into a pint

Appears a crisp, copper/orange color with a small, about .5 a finger, head. No lacing and no retention.

The aroma was of very subtle floral hops and sweet caramel malt. A steady sour note resonated with me and I had a hard time getting past it.

The sweetness from the malt really shines through the subtle floral hops. A light hop bitterness coupled with the sour/skunk flavor for a crisp finish.

On the lighter side of medium, good carbonation level. Smooth.

Fairly easy to drink, but I wasn't a huge fan of the flavor profile. I'd probably skip this next time around.

Pours a very light and clear amber with a half inch of foamy head. Head clears quickly yet offers a thin film on the surface and some light lacing for the duration of the brew.

Smells of lager yeasts with a thin and clean toasted malt sweetness. Taste is slightly sweet with classic German flavors for the style. This beer must have worked for IBM back in the day; traditional, not aggressive, goes with the flow.

Decent carbonation matches the brew well and yields a moderate body with a pleasant toasted malt close that doesn't linger on the palate. An easy drinking brew that isn't overly sweet for the style, yet offers enough malt structure to give it some body.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pint glass. 10/28/08.

Pours a clear copper-orange color with nearly three fingers of beige head. The head dropped quickly, no lacing. Aroma is lightly toasted malt and faint floral hops.

Taste is sweet caramel-ish malt and faint floral hops. Both tastes are very muted, leaving the beer fairly bland. The finish is dry and slightly bitter. Carbonation is decent and the body is light. Drinkability is decent, though the poor taste drops it some.

Doesn't taste as good as other beers of the style.

Picked up a 12 pack to share with some friends recently. Poured into a pint glass. Brownish color with a hint of orange. Somewhat flat looking, not much head, and not much lacing. Smell was a bit earthy. Taste was a bit sub par. Way too much malt, to the point of sticking to the palate. Plus, there was an skunked flavor hidden after the swallow. It's an easy drinking beer, smooth going down, but I just didn't care for the taste. Kind of a let down from a from a brewer that's had a bit of time to work on the O'Fest recipe.

Poured into a pint glass with minimal head. Has a medium amber color, with no lacing.

Strong malt smell present, with some sour tones. The sourness didn't smell like hops.

Lots of malts dominant, some minor citrus with barely any hops. The alcohol was there but fairly weak taste wise. A medium bodied taste, some more minor carbonation. That seemly typical märzen bland aftertaste. No sure I like this style anymore...

Not bad comparing to the style, not a bad choice when fall rolls around. Given the brewer's history pretty solid choice.

I split a pitcher of this beer with friends celebrating a beer buddies 40th birthday.

A: It poured a clear orange body with an one finger white head that fell fast.

S: It smelled of thin toasted malts, barely there caramel and floral hops.

T: It had a malty caramel front with hints of white spices. None of the flavors were dominant leaving it somewhat bland.

M: It was light bodied with a lot of carbonation and a funky sour aftertaste that lingered way too long.

D: Average at best. Not a session beer but adequate for serving with a hot spicy pizza.

12 longneck from a 6 pack.

A: Very nice medium amber with marked clarity, ample head which settles quickly with nice lacing.

S: Malts, yeast, and typical marzen with a note of sour. Slightly floral

T: A hint of sour start, with a huge shot of malt, earthy with a touch of citrus and a bit of caramel.

M: Extremely well balanced with medium carbonation and texture.

D: This is one of my favorite Marzens, and is an extremely drinkable beer. Fill your huge glass stein, and go for it.

Very dark amber color was nice for appearance, but where's the head on this kid?? Virtually no head at all and that left the nose a little lacking. It was mild wheaty malts on the nose, mostly caramel. Had a little bit of bittering hops on the nose as well.
The taste was very pleasant, it had a little orange zest added to the rounded wheat character. Caramel malts were present but definately blended in with the other flavors. The wheat notes were present but didn't overpower like a lot of beers of this type.

A - When poured out into a pint glass it foams to a minimum head and reduces to a minimum lacing as well.

S - Spiced aroma greets the nose showing signs of malty low hop flavoring.

T - Malt greats the mouth and a small spice flavor finishes out the taste for an overall great mouthfeel

A - Big white frothy head off of a slightly vigorous pour... Light brown caramel color... Light slow carbonation... Nice lacing... Coats glass exceptionally well for the style...

S - Malt... Seltzer water... Pear... Mild all the way around... Pleasant...

T - Quite tasty... Caramel... Malt... Biscuit... Pear... Burnt sugar... Slight alcohol... Nutty... Some spice notes are present as well, namely clove... Ever so slight bitter finish...

M - Medium bodied, but still surprisingly light... Smooth and silky... Goes down very very easy...

D - Outstanding Oktoberfest... Quite underrated in my modest opinion... Highly enjoyable and sessionable... One of my favorite Marzens for this Octoberfest season...

Pours a great copper color.

Not the biggest aroma going, but what was there had some light malt going on.

Flavor wise, the malt is more pronounced up front than I would have expected from the aroma, but it finishes with more of a hoppy bitter flavor. Not the kick-you-in-the-teeth Octoberfest I've found more and more common from some of the American breweries, and more smooth drinking and easily approachable than some of its comparable imported brethren.

For a little context, even though its available year round, I wait till the first weekend of fall every year and go to town on this beer. Definately one of my favorites, on tap or in the bottle, in terms of easy-drinking crowd-pleasing Octoberfest.

This stuff goes down my throat like silk. It's flavorful but very drinkable. Tastes like a festival in a bottle. What a beautiful, creamy, malty finish this beer has. It's got a good kick and lingers on the tongue more with each passing sip. I consider this one of the best Oktoberfests.
