Half-litre bottle of the 'Edition 2', poured into the correct glass at home on 18th Oct 2013.

Dark orange hue to the murky brown body; on top a full, deep and lasting white foam covering.

If any of your friends can't smell banana esters in a Hefenweizen, this is the one to bring out: it is truly full of those smells, some yeastiness and vanilla too, but mostly and strongly bananas.

The taste follows the aroma very closely, with banana and vanilla at the fore, some clove and yeasty notes in the mix also, but secondary throughout.

Full bodied for a Hefeweizen and full of flavour: a really good beer in a style that I sometimes struggle to fully appreciate.

Jahrgangsweissbier... once a year brew wheatbeer, with special receipe, as stated on the bottle.
This should be the 2012 brew, bb. september.
Bought in Germany on a short trip.
Absolutely huge head on actually quite orange brown beer. Smell indeed of banana, and taste very nice bready malts. Not much carbonation on this particular sample.
Mouthfeel is very soft malty, smooth and easy. Very balanced.
High quality hefeweissen. Similar profile to the regular brew. Malt hefe hop it's all working very well together.
If you ever have doubt about this brewery, try this and you will be reminded of the class. Cheers.

-high carbonation visible
-Follows the nose
-medium to high carbonation
-medium body
Different somewhat Christmas-y take on a Hefeweizen.
Very good

An orange murky beer with a big head.

The smell has lots of banana, in a mild way. Also some rose leafs. There is very little clove present. The beer has a strong wheat smell. I get a smell that reminds of decoction: a melanoidin-like smell.

The taste mild with a nice estery ripe banana taste. The combination of the extra maltiness, makes this beer really stand out. The somewhat sweet mouthfeel is adding body, which makes the beer less drinkable. The wheat taste is nice and adds a grainy taste.

Not a proper review here - just wanted to say it's reminiscent of 'Schneider Weisse Tap 7' and 'Kapuziner Weissbier'.
Will have to try and get all three for an evening's compasrison.

Poured from the bottle into an original Franziskaner Royal wheat beer glass.
Best before January 2015.

Look: Amber to dark orange, very little carbonation, it starts with a foamy head which disappears rather quickly

Smell: It doesn't smell of much at all, in my opinion. Wheat and maybe a little bananas

Taste: Sweet bananas, malt and a stronger wheat flavor than many other wheat beers

Feel: Feels very full bodied and rather heavy in the mouth

Overall: A good wheat beer. Definitely better than the original Franziskaner but there are many other better wheat beers around.

Got this one at Bert’s Bierhuis in Utrecht. Big fan of the regular so was stoked to see this steroid version.

From a 50cl bottle into a weizen glass.

APPEARANCE: Same as regular but a bit darker than gamboge orange. Very opaque and next to no carbonation evident. Pours a large fluffy white head that is pretty persistent. Eventually levels out to nothing and leaves no lacing. Looks great at the beginning, but relatively flat by the end, unfortunately.

SMELL: Same as regular but a bit bolder. Clove, banana, wheat malt, lemon and a touch of bread. Love this stuff.

TASTE: Much the same stuff going on but a bit more spice from the added alcohol and a touch more caramel from the added malt. Still all the awesome Franziskaner stuff with wheat malt, clove spices, banana and some light caramel up front, then a bold and lingering finish with more banana and lemon esters, clove and a bit of alcohol spices, wheat malt and a bit of caramel sweetness. Really like this and like the added sweet note with the bolder esters in this one.

PALATE: Medium body and slightly lower carbonation for the style. Creamy smooth on the palate, goes down smooth and finishes a touch mouth coating. Basically the same as the regular version but perhaps a bit fuller and heavier from the added malt.

OVERALL: Love it. Just as good as the original and perhaps even a touch better. Like the regular with bigger balls. Since I’m such a huge fan of the standard weizen, it’s not surprising that this is right up my alley. Not sure I’d go as far as calling this an actual weizen bock, but it’s somewhere in between. More weizen and more goodness without a noticeable or inebriating increase in alcohol. If you’re a fan of the style, you’ll love this.
