Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a Pilsener glass.
A - pours a translucent dark ruby when held up to light. Tannish, off white head. About two finger width with a moderate pour. Appears to be moderately carbonated - some bubbles but not a ton.
S - lots of thick, bready malt mixed with some herbal hops. Caramel and a touch of alcohol as well - maybe even a little funky? Not sure but I like it.
T - cramel, biscuity malt, and a touch of hop bitterness on the finish round this one out. Very big and bold malt - that is the real star here. Some dark fruits and smokiness. I'm not usually a fan of malt bombs but I enjoy this guy. There's an interesting aftertaste - I can't really describe it, so I'll leave it at that.
M - medium bodied, with a nice crisp finish. Not as much carbonation as I had anticipated, but not bad at all.
O - overall, a very nice beer. My first foray into the style and I enjoyed. Highly drinkable (watch that ABV!) but still complex and very interesting. I'll be coming back to this.
