The Foodery! Philly's premier beer destination... Weird place, The Foodery. It is a deli, a convenience store and a gourmet beer market all in one.

Selection is not super gigantic, but very good nonetheless. About four or five coolers plus one shelf with rarities.

Aside from the big names (Dogfish, Sierra) and lots of local and Pennsylvania breweries, the attraction here is those brews you won't easily find in the East Coast: Russian River (of course), Lost Abbey, Bell's, Bruery, Nebraska, Duck Rabbit, Nebraska... and some East Coast "whales" like Cisco Brewing.

I bought Bell's Batch 10,000 and Port Brewing Old Viscosity, and wish I could have bought some of the rare bottles from Lost Abbey (Lost/Found, Deliverance, 10 Commandments) and the Old Stock '09 aged in bourbon, but they were $20-$30 a piece.

There are no prices, which is annoying because you gotta ask the cashier every time, but the person working there (a mid-aged Asian with bad teeth) was really nice and helpful. She knows her beer!

Everything is super expensive here, but then again, most bottle shops in Pennsylvania are.

This is a must when in Philly! Come here and buy some rare shit.

This place has kind of a pizza joint look with the combination of brick and metal. I asked the guy at the front how it worked (because I am not a man baby that pretends to know everything), and he explained to grab a table and order at the bar. I had the sausage sandwich with long hots which was very good. The beer list was fine, though not extensive. Again, it didn't have to be either. There were several coolers with cans and bottles that I didn't get a chance to check out. Overall, a pretty solid place that I would grab a bite at once a week if I lived in Philly.

First found this place around 2003 and, not knowing its name, friends and I had referred to it as '10th and Pine' for awhile. This was my go-to spot in Philly for single bottles back in the day, until the NoLibs location opened. Used to be able to find some rare or hard-to-find beers in here, but I either must have by now had them all, or the outliers no longer find their way here in great number (wistfully recall Hair of the Dog items being somewhat regularly stashed away on the shelves in the back corner). Then again, I usually go by what's on the shelves, never really prodding the staff for info on any gems hidden below in the basement.

Despite its name and the tasty deli offerings at their NoLibs location, I can't for the life of me ever remember seeing anyone ordering or making any deli sandwiches here and, as of my most recent visit a couple weeks ago, it would sort of appear that the deli portion of this joint is retired. Could be wrong, never inquired. While it lacks sandwich, it does have a ton of snacks available and that, besides the beer, was why I'd go out of my way to pop by and indulge. I also wistfully recall having found a pint of Haagen Dazs 'German Chocolate Cake', which was out of this world. Never saw it anywhere else. Maybe it was a dream.

Over the years, the staff often offers help, but I only engage them if I'm on edge about finding an elusive, un-had brew. Some sport of a cashier back in the day almost allowed me (in an inebriate episode) to buy a magnum-size Rogue Shakespeare Stout, however, upon checkout, one of my colleagues astutely pointed out the maggots encrusted on the interior bottle neck, and a breached seal/cork was discovered. Bottle permanently removed following revelation (I would assume).

Not too many needs or wants found in ol' 10th and Pine these days, but I do still make it a point of popping in now and again. Occasionally, I walk away with something to satisfy my cravings.

A nice bottle selection, though not much to go crazy for. The bar service was fairly quick, though not personable. The tap list looked decent, but small. (4-6 total?) the water station was unique... Three different types of water for all your hydration needs.

Neat hybrid of bottle shop and bar that has been springing up in beer centric cities for the last few years, this is apparently one of the originals. The service was good, the beer seemed to be well taken care of. The selection of draft beer is small but nicely balanced, the selection of bottles is huge, buy honestly not anything special. Worth a stop if you are nearby and it is too crowded elsewhere, but you really can find a better beer selection elsewhere in this city with ease.

I found one employee there who was super knowledgeable about beer and he was extremely helpful to me. Overall, I think this foodery had beer that may be rare to people not from Philadelphia, but for those who live there, it does not appear to have anything unusual, rare, or hard to find.

A decent amount of domestic and international craft brews. The place however looks a bit messy and crowded. Also there are no prices on any of their beers so it's hard to know whether you're staying on budget or not.

This Foodery is a little more limited in terms of selection compared to the Foodery at Northern Liberties due to their limited store space, but they pack or at least try to pack as much of a punch into the shop as they can.

Although the store front is almost hallf the size of Nor Libs', the Washington Square location seems to get all the same seasonal/rare imports that the other Fooderies get as well. (case in point: I bought a four-pack of Goose Isand Bourbon County Stout here, as well as the last bottle of Bourbon County Coffee Stout)

Don't buy food here as the groceries/food is a front for laundering beer (Due to, I'm assuming, the oh-so-strange Philadelphia alcohol laws). If you're looking for good beer and are too lazy/scared to take the Market-Frankford line to Girard, then the Washington Square Foodery is for you.

My daughter moved into an apartment a block away. After parking the car and walking back to the apt, we noticed a small corner store with lighted beer signs in the window. Intrigued, we walked in and, behold, a cramped area with a nice selection of single beers grouped into different countries. It was a pleasant surprise and have been back a number of times and been to the Northern Liberties location also which has a bigger selection.

Stopped in here a few days ago while in the area for an event. Figured it was only a few blocks away, might as well check it out.

Atmosphere was just like others have mentioned, it is pretty much a cross between a corner bodega and a bottle shop. It is really cramped and you have to walk around numerous objects to get anywhere. Quality was ok, nothing amazing, some of the bottles looked pretty old. Service was pretty good, I had two different people ask if I needed any help. Selection was decent for the size of the space but nothing amazing. Only one or two things I would have gotten had the prices been reasonable, which they certainly were not.

Overall an ok bottle shop in the heart of the city. If I lived in the area I might check it out every now and then to see what they have but I doubt I will return.

The foodery is a conveience store turned little beer store. Cramped. Very cramped couldn't move in there if your their with one or more customers. Beer selection is ok but couldn't get any better since its so small. Theres no parking what so ever, I just went when I had my City vehicle and double parked ( the perks of driving a City of Philadelphia Vehicle.) It's a bit pricey, rather go to Craft beer outlet in NE Philly. Probably will never go here again. Just went a couple of times since I worked in South Philly but wont be heading back.

Well it has all been said before. You better hold onto your nutsack when you go into this place because that is the only thing that you can leave with that did not cost an arm and a leg. Pretty shitty looking place on Pine that has stale candy and other assorted foodstuffs to sell the stoners on Friday and Saturday night when they come in for a beer as well as munchies. Place looks dirty and not too clean but the beer selections are pretty good. Know what it feels like when it is 2AM and you are horny and in a bar and just want to take a hot hole home to bang on for a bit before you call it a night? Well this is the same feeling but it relates to beer. If you absolutely have to have a beer and price is no object, then step right up. Otherwise, save your nuts and go someplace else.

A: Def no parking, and absolutely no room to move around in the store. If you're a bigger dude, 'walk sideways' LOL.

Q: Again, small. They'd be better off getting rid of the grocery side of the store, and just making it a beer store; now that's a million dollar idea- I want a kick back when you do it Foodery.

Ser: There are only a few people in the store that know beer, and when I asked them a few questions I felt like I was bothering them.

Sel: Normal finds, but some real hidden gems!!!

V: Typical prices for PA. God I'm tired of saying this.

If they went 100 percent beer, this place could OWN Philly...eliminate the peanut butter, salad dressings and etc, and blow this store open as a bottle shop.

I am a huge fan of sarcasm; not a huge fan of Douchery!!!

I'll start by saying that I think this is THE most expensive beer store I've ever been to, but I'll explain that in a moment. This place was recommended by my bartender at Monk's Cafe.

This is basically a corner store with 20 or so feet of free-standing beer coolers packed with rows and rows of single beers. There is also a very limited selection of beers on the warm shelves and a open-top chest with canned beer six packs. The selection is awesome, especially for PA. Russian River, De Ranke, Cascade, Bell's, New Holland, Oskar Blues (to name the things I purchased) plus Terrapin, Sixpoint, Breckenridge, a few locals, Troegs, Abita, and more, plus the usual imported suspects like Chimay, Piraat, etc.

The problems are that A) Nothing is priced (WTF!?), B) it's super cramped because of isles full of chips and corner store sundries, C) the line forms down the center isle, and D) the staff doesn't know about the beers (so I created a 10 person line behind me when I was trying to purchase a 6pk and 6 loose beers). And because of this line hold-up, I didn't feel like I could put anything back after they had to look it up with assistance from another guy and then charge me $24 for a single beer that probably should have been $18 somewhere else. My bill was $125 and I felt a little ripped off.

I'd recommend finding somewhere else to shop, but this place does have a good selection.

So Im onboard with the majority of the reviews on this place. This place does have a great selection and the beers are grouped quite well. There didnt seem to be anything super rare but you can expect many of the beer enthusiast favorites. It is real tight quarters in there and that was pretty annoying bumping shoulders. There is a pricing book there but many of the beers werent listed so I just grabbed what I wanted and hoped for the best. I made two six packs and grabbed a soda and a Celebrator glass. Man I wanted to dunk my crotch in a vat of scolding hot soup when i saw the total price. Granted I didn't price first, and I certainly could have declined the purchase but I went with it. I thoroughly enjoyed what I purchased without a doubt, but its true, this place is super expensive and it hurt my soul a little.
