moderately sized bottle shop and specialty food retail shop setup - coolers of individual bottles/cans divided up by geographic region. great selection, prices a little steep. They also had some 6/12 packs, and specialty bottles not in the cooler doors. besides beer, they also had specialty food products that is the other half of the shop. looks like you could also get sandwiches or other food made to go. the cashier didn't ask if I needed any help, so not sure if they have knowledgeable staff or not.

What I bought: Timothy Taylor Landlord Pale Ale, BrewDog Libertine Black Ale, Maine Beer Peeper Ale, Sly Fox Route 113 IPA, Ommegang Hop House, Elysian Night Owl Pumpkin Ale, Boulevard Double Wide IPA, Anchor Big Leaf Maple Autumn Red, Founders Devil Dancer, Brooklyn Sorachi Ace, Zywiec Porter, Allagash Saison, Deschutes Jubelale, North Coast Pranqster, Urthel Samaranth, Stillwater A Saison Darkly, and Stone Coffee Milk Stout.
What I liked: Clean and well-organized aisles, love the fact that most of the beer is fresh and refrigerated, very impressed with the number of singles available, one of the best selections I’ve come across with an endless range of highly-rated beers from the top beer nations, lots of empty cases available, checkout guy was friendly and explained PA’s weird liquor laws to us, prices are reasonable.
What I disliked: As with any beer store they have some dated stock, a few of the products were missing tags, clientele is hipster heavy but that didn’t really bother us.
Would I go back? Yes. This place is a “must” for beer shopping when in Philly.

This is a food spot that just happens to have a really nice selection. Prices tend to be a little high but it's located in "Northern Liberties" so what do you expect. It's very spacious, never crowded and you can have a beer with your lunch. They usually run monthly specials on certain breweries and this is where you can get the most bang for your buck.

I was up from Baltimore and was pretty excited to check this place out. Service was so-so, beer is pretty overpriced and with full disclosure, I didn't have any food. Not sure I would qualify this as a "world class" bottle shop.

I visit this location 2-3 times a month. I will be brutally honest.
They used to price their beers. This recently stopped (at least the unrefrigerated ones). I have been over-charged multiple times, and the cashier typically says "there is nothing I can do about it, do you want to buy it or not?". Embarrassing customer service.
Though when I walk in, I am typically greeted, and asked if there is anything I am looking for.
They have a great selection, but honestly, I go here to see what bottles and breweries recently hit Philly, then go somewhere else to purchase them, as they are usually 20-40% cheaper elsewhere.
On a brighter note, the sandwiches are top-notch, and highly recommended! Try the El Diable Deluxe!

A lot of standard beers found at most places with a few rarer beers priced a little high. Didn't try the food.

Excellent selection (Lost Abbey, Russian River, etc.), but if you're not familiar with pricing, it's ridiculous. That said, if you've got to have something that you normally don't get where you live (like me, I'm based out of NC), you gotta go for it.

Very nice bottle shop with somewhat of a New York style deli under the same roof. Expansive local and regional craft selection with the usual national suspects. I did not try the food.

I stumbled upon this Foodery as I parked my bike across the street at Standard Tap. It looks so much better and bigger than the original Foodery on 10th and Pine! Cleaner, airier, more beer… the works.

They have a menu of sandwiches and things you can order and eat at a dining area by the beer coolers.

As usual, they have a ton of rare and expensive brews here: Black Albert ($12.95), De la Senne Taras Bulba, Old Stock Brandy ’11 ($28.95), Lost Abbey Agave Maria and Track #8 ($25+), Evil Twin Black Out, Mikkeller Black… plus lots of beers from all the major craft-beer brands, big and small.

They also sell cheese and gourmet food things to go, in case you want to go home and party. When I was there they were having an Ithaca tasting, which included a bunch of good stuff (not only Flower Power) and free sandwiches. Nice people as well.

One cannot make the claim that one is a self-professed Beer Geek/Beer Nerd without having visited the Foodery.

Yes, the beer here is marked up anywhere from 120% - 150% like everywhere in Philly thanks to the god-awful alcohol/import restrictions, but if you walk into this place dumb enough to think you're going to walk out of here with a bottle of beer that you can probably find in one of the many distribution centers that only sell alcohol by the case, then you sir or ma'am, are a square.

But getting back to business.

I spent two days visiting various liquor/bottle stores in NJ and Philly looking for my favorite beer. Buy-rite at Cranbury? Nope. Oak Tree in South Plainfield? Nope. Bottle Bar East? Nope. The Bottle Store? Nope. It all seemed hopeless until I stopped by the Foodery, whom I had called about two days ahead and asked if they carried it, to which they told me: NOPE.

So to my amazement, I found my bottle of Brouwerij De Dochter van de Korenaar Embrasse Ardbeg at the Foodery. Four bottles of it, if I may add. I also happened to pay six dollars less than I did the last time I found it in another awesome beer store in Elkridge, MD, who only carried one bottle of it on stock. I was so happy with my purchase, that I went further and picked up two bottles of Dogfish Head 120, Amager Batch One, Firestone Walker Double DBA, Russian River Damnation/Temptation and some Trappiste Rochefort 10 (yeah I know, Rochefort 10 is pretty common now and I overpaid like three dollars/bottle, but that's what you get for being lazy)

I also had a brief but enjoyable conversation with one of the beer geeks here, who informed me that they will have some of America's rarest craft brews in stock come April time, save for Pliny the Elder/Younger and the Heady Topper which almost never leaves CA/VT in bottle/canned form: Firestone Walker's Parabola and Founders KBS is apparently available here on a first-come-first-served basis.
