Big City Light

Poured into a glass Big City Light displays a clear straw-gold body beneath a short head of bright white foam. The head retention is fairly good, and it leaves remarkable lacing for a light lager.

The aroma is sweetish, displaying a generic, adjunct-laden maltiness without any hop whatsoever (as expected).

In the mouth it's light-medium in body, and gently zesty with carbonation.

The label reads "Based on average analysis each 12 oz. serving contains; 113 calories, 7.0g carbohydrates, 0.9g protein, 0.0g fat" ...113 calories? Well that's not a very light beer, but OK, I can see why as it's a very sweet beer. It's not malty though, it's more of a corn syrup sweetness. All of those sugars are there, they haven't been fermented out, and I'm guessing that they're making it "light" simply by adding water. I'll go even further to speculate that they're contracting one high gravity lager that's then diluted to produce the Ice, the Lager, and the Light Lager. That, of course, leaves the light beer with the least hop flavor of the bunch.

In the mouth it's light-medium in body, and gently zesty with carbonation.

Overall it's not a bad beer. There are no flaws to it (no higher-alcohols, phenolics, or off-flavors), but it's really just too sweet for the style. Even ice-cold I'd imagine that the sweetness would remain and the body would seem fuller than expected.
