A - dark with decent head.

S - had a bit of a cold so struggling a bit with this, flowery with a hint of caramel.

T - light with subdued hops and quite sweet.

M - nice and smooth though lacking some body.

D - could see me quaffing a few of these over an evening.

As milds go quite nice, nothing spectacular. Decent session beer.

Hand-pulled pint in 'The Wellington' Birmingham (West Midlands) on 5th Dec 2012.

Dark ruby in colour with a good solid tan head.

Malts rule the brew in every aspect with the hops just about giving the beer a semi-bitter finish as the mouth dries.

Smooth feel to the overall tasting, nothing strong or robust in the flavours: just hints of better things. All the regular Mild tastes are here but only just, bits of chocolate, coffee and liquorice blend together without really hitting the high notes. Easy to drink and pleasant enough, but lacking a real punch.

The sixth beer tasted by half-pint at the Chelmsford Summer Beerfest., 12/07/2006. Gravity-dispensed.

A: dark brown in colour with ruby glows when seen against light; no beer head, static body, great clarity.
S: a slightly sour fruity note of pears+plums, as well as slightly winey/red-grapey, underlines rather mild amber malt presence in the mix, while a mildly smoky hint of roasted malts stays quietly in the background.
T: thin and fruity (dark fruits), featuring a flavour like semi-fermented red grapes... still sour and faintly sweet after the mid-point on the palate, backed by a faintly smoked edge of roasted malts in the short, semi-sugary sweet finish.
M&D: overly thin and watery for a 4.3%abv. beer, even though this is a Mild... the malty body falls slightly behind the fruity theme, which reverses my preferable profile for a Dark Mild. It has to be more flavoursome to qualify as a quaffable, fruity version of Dark Mild, IMO.
