appearance - not a very impressive look to this beer. no head, pale yellow and clear

smell - nothing much...just some malty

taste - I wish they sold this beer in 6-ers and 12 packs...this would be a go-to summer time refresher beer. Extremely refreshing and void of any ill flavorings. Very little flavoring but what is there is very refreshing.

Mouthfeel - watery

Overall - if you take this beer and put it up against the cheap adjuncts, it comes out crisper and more refreshing than most all of them. Great beer for picnics, crab feeds etc. I really like the lightness and refreshness of this one. Probably the best Shiner beer I've sampled to date.

I was grilling some steaks for my wife and I tonight, and since I like to slow cook them and I had some things to do in the yard, I decided to try this to liven things up a bit. I picked it up in a mix and match six pack at the store the other day. Poured from a bottle into a glass.

Appearance - Pale yellow with almost no head at all. Looks like your standard issue American adjunct lager.

Smell - Very light grain, not much to speak of. I tried everything, though maybe I had a stuffy nose or something, but no. There just isn't much there.

Taste - Basically tastes like a whole bunch of other American adjunct lagers out there. There is a hint of bitterness at the front and a dash of hops at the back end, but other than that almost nothing.

Mouthfeel - Water. It feels like you are drinking water, so I guess it would be great for a really hot day or something. There is something to be said about that if you live in Texas. It's very clean, leaves you with almost no realization you are drinking beer.

Overall - Remarkably underwhelming, for the price. I could have paid less money and gotten a whole bunch of other beers that pretty much taste the same. I do not think I will be buying it again, but if it was a hot day and I was offered one, I'd still drink it. It's still beer.

A- Very pale yellow, almost appears to be clear at the bottom of my Sam Adams glass. The head starts out two fingers thick and bubbly, but fades out of existence in seconds.

S- Reminiscent of macro lagers with a hint of sweetness.

T- Very light and slightly sweet. Virtually flavorless.

M- Light bodied with moderate carbonation.

D- As drinkable as water.

In all honesty, this beer sucks. However, there is nothing offensive about it. It's definitely better than your average BMC.

Poured from a bottle into a glass.

A-Very light golden with a small head. No lacing to speak of.

S-Smell of some light grains and hops. Very light though.

T-The taste is good for how light and watery it is. Light grains and hops are present.

M-Good carbonation and very light bodied.

O-A good beer for its class. Very light. I would drink this kind again if I was thirsty for it.

I've acquired a Shiner Variety Six pack at the store, let us take a look at what they have to offer.

A. Pale yellow and transparent like a watered down urine, sickly foam scum on top attempts to be a head but doesn't quite get there. Absolutely no lacing at all.

S. First whiff is a massive hit of cooked vegetables, but this aroma dissipates as I let the glass breathe for a minute or two. Than I am left with an exceedingly faint crystal malt scent. Not much to this aroma at all to even talk about, I'm afraid.

T. Lively carbonation helps a weak hopping make an initial bitter strike but the initial twang of bitterness flops over and dies just like the malt does. Very weak crystal malt. Not bad (No terrible off-flavors), but also not really all that good either.

M. Crisp and clean, light and fully carbonated... but really watery, which is at least appropriate for matching the flavor of this beer.

I'll probably not be having this one again as it is just too much like a "lite" beer for my tastes.

12oz bottle poured into a pint glass.

Pours a clear light yellow with a thin fizzy head that is quick to fade. Head settles into a thin ring with no lacing.

There is not a whole lot of aroma with this beer. Some light grain husk along with a light vegetable smell.

The flavor is mostly water with a tiny bit of husky grain and a small amount of hops. A bit tart on the finish.

I got this as part of the "family reunion" variety pack but it's not something I really have any desire to drink again.

Another beer I got in the "Family reunion" variety pack.

A - Clear pee yellow with a slight bit of head that quickly fizzes away to a slight lace ring. No sticky lace.

S - I don't smell much maybe some lager yeast and hops but it is literally the fainest beer I ever had.

T - Not terrible in a sense of flavor but it's pretty much sweet hop water. No real "flavor" just the bare minimum to create a beer. Even though it's light it's really not terrible with skunked or off flavors.

M - Again light in a sense of a light beer. Session-able.

Overall pretty much the lightest Blonde I ever had so it will be the base line as such. Might give the rest to my friends.

12 fl oz bottle served in a pilsner glass, reviewed live:

A - Pale, transparent, straw golden color with a thin, thin head that recedes fast. Looks highly carbonated.

S - Pale malt, very light citric notes, stale adjunct. Mild and uninteresting.

T - Extremely watery through the climax, where a bit plain malt and an unidentified bitterness come through. Simple and uninspired.

M - Light bodied and crisp. At least they got this part right.

D - Simple, watery, and low quality. It's drinkable and slightly better than most macros, but that ain't saying much.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Tulip.

A. Pours half finger head that disappears in about 10 seconds. No lacing. Colro is pale golden yellow.

S. Yeasst, crystal malt, a little lemongrass. Somewhat sweet smelling. Not much aroma.

T. Taste is yeast, pale malt, a little lemony citrus. Fairly sweet. Easing drinking.

M. Light bodied. Finishes dry. Low carbonation.

O. Not too bad of a lawnmower beer. Not much aroma or flavor, but easy drinking and refreshing. Would probably grab over any BMC.

A: Pours a very pale yellow with a frothy head that fades quickly.

S: Light grain aroma up front with cooked corn and a hint of lemon.

T: Taste is barely there. Very light grain aroma with a slight citrus zest thrown in. Cracker like aftertaste.

O: Overall kind of underwhelming and forgettable.

Situation: NBC comedy Thursday... Glassware: Ommegang pokal... Appearance: champagne gold body with a thin but noticeable off-white head--good effervescence... Aroma: nondescript notes of Saaz hops... Palate: crisp, dry palate--a fizzy finish... Taste: mellow lager/pilsner predictability--not bad, but again...a bland blonde...having trouble distinguishing the variety in this variety case... Overall: I imagine a blonde should be crisper and more refreshing than its lager brethren; this is only slightly moreso, and I am straining to find the subtle differences between this and any other...

Poured from the bottle into a nonic pint glass. Looks like good till Jan 16th 2012 I think if I read the neck line correctly?

A very pale straw clear lemon body with little rising carbonation. A very styrofoam shocking white head, that falls at a good clip. Lots of snapping carbonation noise is apparent.

Light bready malt on the nose, some small small sweetness of even some sort of faint artificial cherry. Unfortunately it also smells like vomit and bile a little.

Taste is, hard to describe. Because there is hardly any taste of anything in this beer. Extremely light bodied but that's to be expected, seems about right for feel, but there is almost nothing here to taste except for some faint citrus flat soda. Some faint spiciness on the finish which is interesting.

Overall ridiculously easy to drink, feels like a total lawnmower beer, but really lacking in providing anything interesting to the palate. I can't say any reason to even drink this again.

12 oz bottle. Pours golden hue with a small, short-lived, white head and soda like carbonation. Nose reminded me of Belgium Sour Red in the beginning then hints of grassy hops and some malt appeared. Light, very crisp body. Taste is of light hops and sweet malt. I would recommend this brew to my macro-drinking friends.

Pulled a 12 FL. OZ. bottle out of a Spoetzl Mix Pack I bought @ Shop N' Save in Valley Park, MO for $15.99. Poured from the Bright blue bottle with no Freshness Date into my 0,47l New Belgium Oversized Snifter Glass.

Aroma- Very light aroma with tons of malt and sweetness behind it. No hops are evident and not too sure if I'm more upset about this or that the aroma is not happening in this brew...

Appearance- Pours a 1 finger head that has weak retention. Has a crystal clear body that has tons of bubbles within. Leaves no lacing behind.

Flavor- Starts very sweet and then has a ton of malt character behind it. No hop taste once again and therefore no bitterness either. Very dry finish.

Mouthfeel- Light Bodied, Medium Carbonation, Smooth, and thats it. Nothing else, just finishes the drink there, almost like water on the palate.

Overall Impression- Very easy to drink but would probably sway to other Blonde Ales available. Nothing against you guys Spoetzl but this just wasn't a huge hit for me. Ill stick to all the other brews in the line up.

12 oz bottle poured into a pint glass

Pours a very pale yellow with a finger of foam that fades quickly. Aroma is very faint, some light grainy nose but not much else.

First sip is underwhelming. There is a quick kiss of malt sweetness that quickly fades into no flavor, no aftertaste. A faint cabbage flavor also. But this is very thin and not exciting at all.

I wish there was more to say about this beer. It is just thin and bland.

I just dont get how I use to like Shiner beers. I bought the variety pack and it has a Shiner Blonde in it. The beer appearance is very average and boring. The smell has a slight amout of corn and malt. The taste is of wheat and really not much else. The mouthfeel too me is kind of below average. It has a decent amout of carbonation and sort of burns. Overall this beer is not good. I have never cared for anything Spoetzl and this doesnt help their case.

I had this beer poured from a bottle into a pint glass...

A: A pale, and clear, golden color with a small white head, which left minimal lacing...

S: Cracker malt...

T: Cracker/biscuit like taste, some light earthy hopping...

M: Crisp...light...

D: Well, its what I expected...but it sure is drinkable? Light, crisp, lowish abv, though, I wouldn't buy it again.

Appearance - Pours a clear, crisp, golden color with a small white head that disappears very quickly.

Smell - Kinda has a straw-like smell to it.. It's very hard to distinguish the smell honestly.

Taste - Kind of sweet with some notes of maltiness. Has a little bit of a spicy aftertaste, but fades away quickly. Definitely a refreshing beer though..

Mouthfeel - It's pretty thin with medium carbonation.

Overall - I like this beer a lot.. Shiner Bock is one of my favorites and this one is good too

Sm. corn, grass, raw grain?? Don't know...that "cheap" beer smell.
Ta. grainy, corn, but with faint sweetness and faint malt. A very good "cheap" beer taste.
Mf. LIght w/ light fizz.
Dr. Easy, for the type, cold is best. A better BMC lager.

I got couple of this beer through Shiner's Reunion 12-pack. Needless to say, it's been a very long time since I tasted their Blonde. Overall, this beer is one of the more underwhelming beers Shiner had made along with the (my personal opinion) horrendous Ruby Redbird.

The appearance and smell just are ordinary. The taste is a matter of its own. It tasted somewhat stale like you'd see in cheap lagers that you always avoid. The aftertaste is strong and not very pleasant. For me, it's almost tasting like stronger version of Coors Light or Tecate Light.

Shiner Blonde American Pale Lager 4.4% alcohol poured into a Plisner glass from 12oz. blue labeled bottle.

A- Appearance is extra pale yellow with one inch loose bubbled head that falls to a light froth with mild lacing.

S- Not bad with hints of lemon zest hops and grassy notes as well. Lightly sweetened malts are present in the back of the nose.

T-M- Upfront the flavors are a grainy mixture of slightly metallic notes with and slick bites of faint citrus hops. Not much on taste but doable for a lawnmower. Mouthfeel is slick and watery with mild carbonation.

All and all a drinkable beer for a hot day.

Ba Review #43
Served On: 8/21/2011
Glassware: Wiezen Glass

This was one from the 2011 2011 Shiner Family Reunion mixed six pack.

Look: Poured a bubbly clear yellow with a thin one-finger white fizzy head that dissolved to a patchy coating.

Smell: Sweet and light fruity notes. Some faint citrus. Also some faint biscuit. This has a very light and crisp nose.

Taste: Very fruity and refreshing. The sweet fruity notes hit first and then the carbonation took over. The finish and aftertaste were extremely clean. Only slight notes of bready yeast with a dryness.

I personally would prefer this beer over any of the other mainstream pale lagers out there. The fruity qualities are a nice bonus. This was a very refreshing brew that is perfect for a hot day.

I purchased a Shiner Family Reunion 6-pack while visiting my aunt down in DC and it was a really good deal. I usually enjoy the Shiner beers.

From the bottle: "Local Love - In Shiner you'll find Blonde on tap at gas stations, antique stores, and of course the Spoetzl Brewery."; "Classic Blonde - This Bohemian-style Golden Lager is a classic Blonde Beer. Distinctive, flavorful, and refreshing."; "The Local Favorite - For over a century, we've been brewing this Bohemian-style golden lager at our small brewery right here in Shiner, Texas (pop. 2,070). And for just as long, it's been a local favorite. Folks around here have always loved the blend of European and American hops that make this Blonde slightly sweet and full of flavor. We hope you enjoy it as much as our locals do."; "There's nothing finer!"

My pour created a big fluffy finger of bone-white head with moderate retention. Color was a pale lemon-yellow with NE-quality clarity. This was a Greg Koch Special, to be sure! Nose had a light lager-like honey sweetness underlain by a very light sulfurous odor, but nothing terribly untoward. Mouthfeel was thin and watery and the immediate taste in the mouth was of metal, followed by a lager sweetness. Did I get this out of a CAN? No! But I definitely tasted metal and that was not pleasant. Finish was less obtrusive, but I still had that metallic tang in mouth well after the swallow. I CANnot remember whether I liked it in the CAN, but if my scores were better than from a bottle, stick to a CAN.

Pours a clear, pale yellow colored body with a fizzling inch of pure white bubbles, though it departs at a rapid pace.

The aromas begin with cereal sweet malts, flecks of cracked grains and light bready, water-soaked malts.

The tastes begin with pale and pilsner malts, modestly grainy and a vaguely sweet notion of honey water. A few corn husks. Very faintly herbed, spiced hops with an altogether low degree of bitterness.

The mouthfeel is light-bodied with medium-plus carbonation. Feels sour in the finish.

Overall, this is just a poor showing. Tastes sour and drinks to full and not crisp and refreshing enough for the style despite the lack of malt body flavor.
