North Carolina

Well this is a standard I drank alot while living in North Carolina because the people I hung out with thought this was a "special beer".Pours a amber/brown with a light off white colored head. The aroma is grainy and lightly sweet and a little earthy.Taste is watery in my opinion with some resdual caramel sweetness but not much, not much of a bock for sure.

Appearance – Nice, clear brown bock color with a little head.

Smell – Nice, lightly-toasted bock aroma. There seems to be a scent of cheap grain, though, like a Budweiser or something.

Taste – The traditional bock flavor is there, but some cheap graininess and a watery finish spoil the show.

Mouthfeel – Thin and watery.

Drinkability – This Shiner was indeed a black eye.

The moment that I never drink a Shiner beer again can't come too soon. Fortunately, this is the last of my mixed pack.

It has a generic grainy aroma just like their other beers with maybe a hint of tree bark and maple.

Easy to drink, not much going on. A step above macro lager.

Shiner Bock... Bock style beer at 4.4%. I expected more personally. Nice presentation of yellow label with red and black writing and a ram on the front.

A- Pours a dark reddish brown fluid with little head that produces very little trace lacing.

S- Simple metallic scents upfront with lightly breaded malts.

T-M- Taste is a very bland flavor of sweet malts and light hints of decaf coffee and alcohol esters. Mouthfeel is watery and goes as it comes.

D- Very drinkable at a price of a simple beer that is very macro-like.

Poured a deep copper body with a thin white head that faded quickly. Aroma of caramel, metallic copper and toffee. Medium bodied with a biscuity light malt flavor and sweet aftertaste that finished clean. Good drinkability, this is nothing to seek out, but a great alternative if you find it at a bar stocked with macros.

When I visited my daughter and son-in-law in Houston recently, I wanted to try one of the local brews. This is what they told me to order. It was a dark amber color with no head to it. It had a nondescript malty aroma, and a nondescript , vaguely sweet taste. Actually OK for mouthfeel, and drinkable in the sense that it went down easily. Not one of my favorite beers; hope other offerings from the brewery are better.

Shiner bock
A - Pours a nice amber color but is completely lacking head.

S - Hardly any detected aroma except for a bit of sweet malt

T - A bit of malt with a weird slightly metallic taste and faint touch of hops. Doesn't really taste like a bock, more like a lager.

M - Pretty thin mouthfeel with a low level of carbonation.

D - Poor flavor profile and thin mouthfeel make one more than enough.

Presentation: 12oz can

Appearance: Copper/amber with a thin head that shows little sign of carbonation.

Smell: Clean smelling with no apparent aromas -- probably due to its being canned.

Taste: Crisp and refreshing like a seltzer water. Grain and husk-like flavours turn this brew dry, while a semi-astringent hop presence joins the steeliness of the can to provide a cheap beer flavour. The brew finishes with a metallic twang and an echo of real hop flavour.

Notes: Not impressed at all. Purchased and consumed on Northwest Airlines (Detroit to Boston).

12 oz bottle. Pours a clear caramel amber with a fizzy off white head that quickly disappears.

The aroma is sweet metallic malts with some DMS.

The flavor is heavily sweet malts - caramel and toffee with a lilttle toastedness. The mouthfeel is medium and watery with a little sharp carbonation.

Overall, it's not bad tasting (much more flavor than I expected), but overbalanced on the sweet side. It's better than the macros.

Presentation: It was poured from a brown 12oz bottle into a small mug. The label has a brief description of the beer but no ABV or freshness date.

Appearance: From the pour I got a nice amber colored beer with good clarity and an average two finger just off white head. The head fades to a wispy thin layer but a quick swirl will keep a small cap of foam on top. Lacing is very slick and minimal.

Smell: The aroma is mildly sweet with some light hints of caramel and toasted malt back by grainy and light bready maltiness. Hop presence here is very light and sort of earthy/leafy.

Taste/Palate: Just as the nose would suggest there is a mild sweetness from the light caramel and bready maltiness. A touch of raw grain or husk is also noted in the mix. Hops mix in here too and add a light balance of earthy hop bitterness. Its easy medium body and level carbonation is a bit light for a Bock but very easy to drink.

Notes: I drank more than a few of these the last time I was down in Texas. This is an easy drinking beer in the summer heat and it pairs very well with Texas BBQ.
