Appearance: This beer had been in the back of a friend's fridge for at least a year. Needless to say, there were hefty chunks of sediment floating around the glass, but these dissipated as the beer was swirled around.
Smell: Mostly yeast.
Taste: Wheaty and yeasty. So-so compared to many hefes.
Mouthfeel: Surprisingly punchy given its age. Not what I look for in hefes.
Drinkability: Pretty drinkable, given the age and chunkiness, but one was enough.
Overall, this is an average beer, but below the high standard for hefeweizens. The age did not seem to detract from nor improve the beer. Since hefes are not known for aging, I guess this speaks to the durability of this beer. There are better beers from Shiner and much better American hefes.
