In the tradition of Pyramid and Widmer, American wheat ales masquerading as hefes. Just call it what it is, folks.
Pale straw body with nearly zero haze to it and a shockingly meager head. This is not what the style should look like.
Citrus peel is there (more orange than the lemon co-billed on the label) and the vaguely wheat-y twang. Really no yeasty esters to speak of. Once again, a let-down.
Even under the American Wheat category I'm not sure this holds up very well. Zingy wheat/citrus duality that crashes to earth amidst the completely overaggressive carbonation and unappealing cereal-meets-plastic aftertaste.
As noted, the mouthfeel is not full and chewy like a great hefe but soda-water-ish in its carbonation. Really just a fizzy nothing of a beer. And I actually LIKE Shiner Bock!
