Poured from a 12-ounce bottle obtained in Virginia.

Appearance: Uninteresting pale golden/yellow. Lackluster head and bubbles.

Smell: Sweet and cornlike, akin to Miller High Life. I'm disappointed thus far.

Taste: Begins to shine. Begins with a nice mild hit of noble hops, rolling into a clean, refreshing lager. I was expecting some "skunky" element after smelling this beer, but this was happily absent.

Mouthfeel: Good light body. Inviting. Leaves the palate clean.

Drinkability: The taste more than overcomes the off smell. This beer goes down very easily. A very simple beer with a great taste. I could drink the end of a six-pack of this as easily as the first bottle.

12oz bottle received as part of a trade with mhewes. Thanks Michael!

Poured into standard pint glass. Deep gold color, with lots of carbonation, yielded a less-than-one-finger creamy white head that quickly dissipated with minimal lacing.

Aroma lemony and corn on the cob-eqsue. Not a whole lot of body in this one, but it is a drinkable brew, especially on a warm summer evening. I much prefer ales to lagers, but this one works as an occasional summer brew.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pilsner glass.

A: Very nice. Clear, good carbonation. What little head there was dissipated rapidly and left no lacing, but that's to be expected. Carbonation continues throughout session.

S: Light, floral hop aroma faintly detected. Straw, hay, and grains make up the rest of the very faint aroma.

T/M/D: Great balance between sweet malty grains and subtle hop notes. Very clean and refreshing. Light bodied, highly drinkable. This beer won't blow you away, but it is a very accurate depiction of the style. And it's a $5 six pack in Texas!

Had it on tap at Cain and Abels in Austin.

Appearance- A golden straw color. Had a very thin head that disappeared quickly and no real lacing.

Smell- Hints of citrus and perhaps some wheat.

Taste- Malty and what seemed almost like corn. Weak aftertaste that was almost metallic. Not very complex.

Mouthfeel- Fairly watery. Once again, nothing complex or special.

Drinkability- I like Shiner beers usually, but I was not overly impressed with this one. To me it tasted like a better Lonestar, which is nice but nothing special, especially for a limited time beer. I could see myself ordering a few of these if there wasn't much else, but I'm in no hurry to have it again.

A - Pours pale straw in color with a fluffy white head.

S - Very fruity malts up front, more than I am used to from a lager; nice spicy hop bouquet. These smells evoke a holiday dessert bread.

T - Nice fruity malts and yeast at first, but followed by a rather unfortunate metallic taste (not unusual for Shiner). A bit of an alpha tingle in the finish.

M - A good round mouthfeel, some interesting proteins at work here.

D - Definitely more of a "session" brew than I'm used to; no overwhelming flavors or sensations, and not too filling.

Overall, one of Shiner's better efforts, but that metallic flavor is hindering what could be a much better beer.

My boys in Texas. Good to be home. Beer is a bit on the malty side. I actually liked it better a bit warmed up. Straw colored with with white fleeting head. Subtle malt on flavor and smell with very low aftertaste. Not bad, but I'm looking forward to the 100th anniversary.

I've been a big fan of the Shiner Anniversary batches up to this point. That said, this beer is disappointing. It just lacks flavor entirely. Really not sure what they were thinking when they brewed this one. Swing and a miss.

A - Clear, golden, LIGHT.

S - There was a smell?

T - Miller, anyone?

M - Empty. :(

D - Wouldn't be bad if getting drunk off of cheap beer was the goal in mind.

Overall - Disappointing.

The Shiner line-up is usually my cheap beer of choice, and the anniversary editions have been fairly decent, though generally not as good as the regular Shiner Bock.

Shiner 99, however, is the most disappointing brew to come out of Shiner. All I could think of from the time I opened to bottle until the last sip was "Shiner has re-bottled Bud Light and slapped their logo on it". Utterly disappointing, indeed. I hope they can redeem themselves with Shiner 100.
