Holiday traditions come in all shapes and sizes. Ours come in freshly wrapped bottles and cans. This old-world dunkelweizen is brewed with Texas peaches and roasted pecans - perfect for cracking open in front of a crackling fire.

A: The beer is clear garnet red in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down, leaving a few pillows of bubbles on the surface, a collar around the edge, and lots of lacing down the sides of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of sweet peaches are present in the nose along with hints of pecans and spices.
T: Similar to the smell, the initial taste starts out with flavors of peaches (and associated hints of sweetness), which become mixed with flavors of toasted pecans and spices towards the finish.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied on the palate and has a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This seems to taste more like a Fruit/Vegetable Beer than a Dunkelweizen. It's an interesting Texan take on a holiday beer and is a lot easier to drink than some of the other holiday beers in the heavier styles such as winter warmers. There seemed to be a good balance between the peaches and pecans/spices because the beer wasn't overly sweet.

From a bottle, fridge cold in Libby's US pint glass. Smooth, malty, sweet, minimal hops, easy drinking. The peach is ever so slightly too much, the pecan could be slightly more, the base dunkelweizen amber is very good. The sweetness is a bit too much. I'd love to taste the base dunkelweizen or whatever it is without any flavoring to see how stands on its own. Shiner makes some decent product at a price point only slightly above the mass market mega brewer junk.

Appearance: On draft at a barbecue restaurant. Deep mahogany into a pint glass topped with light tan head that went away within 90 seconds.

Aroma: Sweet and malty. Huge notes of peaches. Borderline cough syrup or cheap store-bought sugary "juice" from concentrate.

Taste: Peaches. Malt. Lightly toasted pecans. Root Beer Barrel candy.

Feel: Medium-light. Low carbonation.

Overall: Peaches and pecans might not sound appealing to most, but this combination plays out surprisingly well if you're into sweet dark beers. Unfortunately, however, the sweetness is also its downfall. The name, reputation, and bottle label also gives winter warmer vibes, which it most certainly is not.

Scent of candied fruit (cherries) and brandied punch punch out of the bottle on popping the cap. The cherry theme continues as I pour transparent pale cherry-tinted mahogany into the glass and only a half-finger of creamy foam develops and quickly collapses. In the glass, the aroma reminds me more of a cross between green apple and watermelon candies. This translates into an opening slightly round candy flavor that quickly morphs into something bitter by the time I swallow it. The aftertaste is astringent and bitter, a little like burnt pie filling. I can probably finish this with my pizza, but I'm not going to try it again.

Sampling a cellar temp 12 oz bottle poured into a weiss glass. The beer pours a bright clear chestnut color with some mahogany depth to it. A fizzy beige head of .5 cm foams up and is gone soon after the pour.
The beer is listed as a dunkelweizen here, but doesnt have any looks of being a wheat beer and that isnt mentioned on the label anywhere.
Aroma is dominated by peaches, but it is more of a gummy candy peach than the actual fruit from the tree. There is a little bit of caramel behind the peaches, but its hard to get past that note. No hop character nor any ABV hints.
First sip reveals a medium to light body with fine tingly carbonation. Texture is smooth and beer is very drinkable.
Flavor is peaches and caramel and some lingering peach candy after the swallow. Maybe a bit of a nutty flavor buried behind the peaches, but no hops and no ABV. The finish also dries out my palate a little, making me drink even faster.
This beer is easy to drink and is on the sweeter side of the scale, but isnt cloying, but if you didnt like peaches, you wont like this beer.

Almost everything about this beer is quite literally peachy! Peach smell, peach taste, etc.
Color: Red, lots of head.
Smell: Loads of peach with subtle hints of roasted nuts.
Taste: Very strong peach (of course) with with a pecanish aftertaste.
Feel: Medium carbonation.
Overall: One of my favorite Christmas brews. If you love beers brewed with fruit you will love this one!

Purchased as part of a “build your own “ 6 pack from Wegmans. Pours a dark reddish amber with a fine tan head. Pronounced peach aroma. Sweet peach flavor upfront which gives way to a slightly dry finish. Very faint pecan aftertaste. I was concerned that this would be synthetic and cloyingly sweet, but it’s actually a very good Christmas beer!

This was surprisingly special...

From the moment I put it up to the light to take a look, I knew this might - and I stress, might - be something special...and it was. A beautiful dark caramel colored beer that had the sweetest smell of peaches with just a hint of roasted pecans that somehow, someway, translated to a deliciously sweet taste. So much so, it was about as close to being a dessert beer without really being one that you can get to. It is quite possibly the most unique brew I have had in a very long time. A great beer to have during the holiday season - hands down - I am glad I have plenty more to go through.

I was intrigued by holiday dunkelweizen. I was a little disappointed. The smell gave me some optimism but it went downhill from there. A bit too sweet and ii can’t explain the finish, sweet and dry? I’m glad I tried it but would not order again.
