Appearance: A dark brown appearance, with a large amount of head on the pour. It sticks around but does dissipate after a little while. As described via the beer's style.

Smell: a very fruity citrus smell. Smells of mango, very sweet. This smells great, i'm really excited to taste this.

Taste: a very fruity, ale taste. It does have hints of the citrus/mango taste, but it is not as sweet as it smells. Definitely something i've never had before, but i really enjoy this.

Mouthfeel: Medium body, and medium carbonation. Easy to drink.

Overall: Not bad, i would drink this again.

It is a rarity anymore when The CANQuest (TM) is the first to review a particular beer in/from a CAN, but this is one of those rare instances! It used to be pretty easy to accomplish this feat, but with the craft CAN revolution on full swing and loads of new CANned beers coming out every day, it has gotten harder. Cheers to The Friendly Greek for making singles of this one available.

From the CAN: "'Tis the season for cheer"; "Greetings from Spoetzel Brewery Shiner, Texas 77984"; "Ale brewed with peaches and peCANs and with natural flavor and caramel color".

The Crack was nice and loud, befitting a Texan beer and my inverted Glug was equally big, to the point that I had to back off to avoid an overflow. While awaiting some of the massive, dense, tawny two-plus fingers of head to fell to a point of reasonable drinability, I took in its color. It was a deep-mahogany (SRM = > 27, < 34) with button-brightness. Man, i could really smell the peaches on the nose! It was like a CAN of preserves. Mouthfeel was medium and the peach flavor was unrelenting, but it also had flavors of milk chocolate and a nuttiness that was the peCANs doing their thing. Finish was pretty sweet, which is usually a drawback for me, but I was really digging this beer. I know that The Friendly Greek also has bottles for sale, so I may give that serving style a try. In the meantime, let me know if you would like me to score a CAN for you in trade for a CAN that I have not tried. Cheers!

Today is Saturday, 28 June 2014 and I have a bottle that had been held in abeyance which I am also going to review at this time.

From the bottle: "Here's a Brew! A Bavarin-style dark wheat"; "'Tis the season for cheer"; "Just for You! Enjoy the Gift of Holiday Cheer"; "Spoetzel Brewery Shiner, Texas 77984"; "Ale brewed with peaches and peCANs and with natural flavor and caramel color"; "Every drop of Shiner is brewed in Shiner"; "Happy Holidays from the 'Little Brewery' in Shiner, TX. We hope you enjoy your Shiner Cheer, an Old World Dunkelweizen brewed with Texas peaches and roasted pecans. The malty flavors of this dark wheat ale are enhanced through the use of malted barley and wheat. And Krausening ensures a smoothness hat makes the subtle peach and pecan flavors all the more satisfying. May your days be merry and bright and your Shiner be cold. Prosit!"; "Give one to someone you love!"

I appreciate that this beer had such wonderful patience in waiting for me to get around to drinking it. The pour began to foam up pretty quickly, so I backed off and let the pseudo-cascade do its thing before settling into two fingers of dense, light-tan head with good retention. Color was a deep, dark-brown with mahogany highlights (SRM = > 22, < 27) and NE-quality clarity. Man, but the nose was just redolent with peaches! Peachy keen, I say. I may run out and get a Tastykake Peach Pie after this. Mouthfeel was soft, kind of full and creamy and the taste was heavy on the peaches, but with a nuttiness, also. Finish was fruity, nutty, semi-sweet, but not over the top. Man, I could drink this year-'round!

Picked up a bottle of from Totowa for the holidays, not having a beer from Shiner in quite a long time. I didn't think that this was a Dunkelweizen when I first poured it out, as it was clear and not indicative of being full of wheat. As a seasonal, this was fine on its own but there wasn't a lot of body or aroma to this and this tasted quite a bit like the Bock and the other beers that I've enjoyed from Shiner in the past.

The pour to this was what I expected, with a clear nutty hue, somewhat frothy head, and lots of carbonation. Not a terribly strong aroma to this but the pecans were certainly there and there was a slight Bock or Weizenbock feel to it. This was repeated in the mouthfeel to some extent, as the peaches same out a bit more along with the heavy carbonation and somewhat fruity undertone to this. Very little banana and no wheat to be found and the consistency of this was light, even though it felt a bit creamy. The body had some malt in it but not enough to compensate for the aforementioned lack of wheat.

Thankfully, the alcohol was low and hardly detectable and I could have had a few more in a sitting had I bought more than one bottle. The roasted nuttiness wasn't as strong as I would have liked but had it been, this would have felt like a Brown Ale. As it was, this was enjoyable on its own even though it paled in comparison to its more highly-rated European counterparts. Some may feel like this is a lighter version of the Shiner Bock but for the holidays, this would be a good choice as a lighter alternative to what's currently on the shelf.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Shiner's winter seasonal, here again. I had this beer sometime last year, but I don't really remember it all too well, so I'm here to revisit it.

Poured into a Houlihan's pint glass.

A - Pours four giant billowy fingers of fluffy khaki head. Body is a dark ruby-chestnut color. Looks pretty nice.

S - Smell is pretty nice and pleasant also. Fresh juicy peaches, not unlike what a Magic Hat #9 smells like. Subtle pecan nuttiness. Brown Bread. And a hint of metallics.

T - Taste follows the nose: juicy peaches, brown bread, lightly grainy, mild earthiness, and some metallic well water on the finish.

M - Feel is clean, dry, and bready. Mineral well water finish.

Overall, another fairly simple and standard brew from Spoetzl Brewery, but it's one I tend to enjoy. The addition of the Texas peaches and pecans makes this a more memorable beer than much of their year-round line up. Recommended seasonal drinking.

Dark peach/amber color with a decent formed head. Lacing is okay.

Super peachy and nectary with hints of white chocolate and candi sugar. Slightly nutty yeastiness. Not much else.

Tastes like a peach beer with some bitterness. No real hop showing. Malts are candied and weak with some graininess.

Semi-boring feel with a medium wetness to the body and a medium carb.

A dunkelweizen??? I get no wheat notes and only a very mild yeastiness that MIGHT be German. Nope. Call it a fruit beer and we'll talk.
