12 oz bottle into a pint glass.

A: Pours a dark chestnut color which is disappointingly devoid of haziness for the style. The head is a one finger off-white shade. It isn't particularly creamy, nor does it have great retention. It leaves behind a thin ring of lacing on the glass.

S: Peach notes are at the forefront. I'm having trouble picking up any nuanced malt qualities, though, and that's unfortunate. Maybe a touch of caramel and some wheat. At first, I thought I picked up a cheesy scent, but that's gone away almost entirely in the glass. The fruitiness IS pretty nice anyways.

T: Okay, I lied - the malt here is like a punch in the face. It hits the palate immediately with caramel-laden sweetness, clashing with the (nice) peach notes instead of coexisting peacefully. At least the peachy finish is pleasant - too bad I don't pick up much pecan flavor. There's too much in the way of clashing flavors for me to enjoy this.

M: Light, but too sweet on the palate to really inspire drinkability. Carbonation does its damnedest to help it go down, though.

O: It's a shame about its lack of balance, because I enjoy the fruity flavors of this. Wasn't a fan of this one, frankly. On the plus side, I can see this appealing to other drinkers.

12 oz bottle poured into a Perfect Pint glass.

Amber red and clear body with a medium sized cream head of great retention and lacing. A really nice looking brew.

Aroma is of sweet peaches and a strong malty backbone. Not getting much pecan in the aroma though.

Taste is heavy on the peach with a more substantial wheat backbone, a hint of pecan but minimal. No bitterness to balance out the sweetness.

Mouthfeel is light, crisp, a little stickiness, smooth.

Overall a nice light peach dunkel that might be better during the warmer months, but surely enjoyed more than expected. Would have been nice to get more pecans though.

This brew was served on tap at MacGregor’s Grill and Tap Room in Canandaigua, NY. It arrived in a dimpled house mug, showing an even mahogany hue. It held a creamy, tan head standing one finger tall, leaving patterned wisps of lacing as it bubbled away at a moderate pace. No haze or sediment was noted, and carbonation appeared to be active. The aroma gave fruitiness of pomegranate and strawberry, cinnamon and clovey spice, sourdough breadiness, tart candied raspberries, sugary Twizzler sweetness, roasted wheat and brown maltiness, and lemon iced tea tannins. With warmth came a cleansing wave of authentic apricot and prune juice sweetness. Our first impression was that the depth of spice and grain gave the flavoring a decidedly Christmasy flair of warmth and balanced togetherness. As we sipped, the taste opened up with bubblegum ester sweetness, freshly churned butter, basement mustiness, molasses, cranberry fruitiness, cereal and caramel grain, and roasty fig pudding spiciness. The middle came to a peak with lemon and orange flesh and peel, bright phenolic clove, gingerbread cookies, black tea tannins, burnt caramel grain, and raw wheaty and brown malts. The end lighten a bit, with creamy vanilla softness, apple cinnamon fruitiness, deeply cooked caramel sugars, soured dried grassiness, lemon pith, white sugar, soft soapy hops, phenolic chemical cleanliness, and almond oiliness. The aftertaste breathed of chai and black tea tannins, herbal essence shampoo, strawberry wine cooler, white grape and plum skins, cereal and caramel graininess, orange peel, and distant herbal hops. The body sat on the full side of medium, while carbonation was lighter. Each sip gave decent slurp, smack, cream, froth, and pop, with slower glug. The mouth was left initially coated and creamy, but this faded into more comforting toastiness and warmth, especially as the beer came to temperature. The abv was appropriate, and the beer drank easily.

Overall, what we enjoyed most about this beer was its aroma. This, as with the mouthfeel, enhanced with each further degree that the liquid warmed. We were then better able to appreciate the nuances of the fruity inclusions, and the inherent spiciness of the grain bill. These lent to each other well, for a balanced, blended experience. We felt much the same way about the flavoring, with fair representation from each corner. This is really what being a Christmas beer should be all about, with richness, depth, warmth, and a touch of fun. All of this, actually, might make it harder for one to indulge all by themselves, as at points we wished we had smaller pours, but that just lends itself to the spirit of the holiday, so go find someone to share this tasty beer with.
