A barely hazy golden amber colored lager with fizzy, long-lasting, film-forming, lemon-white cap. Smells floral, citrusy, piney from the hops, a little bready, and faintly estery. Taste is pilsner- or helles-like from the malt/hops ratio. Biscuits or crackers, as well as caramel. Hop bitterness and even spice (combining for a lemon/orange zest character) is there from start to finish, but stronger hop fruitiness not really present on palate. A little less sweet than other "IPLs"/Hoppy Lagers I've encountered. Crisp, refreshing and well-carbonated throughout. Could stand to be a tad smoother, though, but I guess that's the price paid for that many bubbles! Medium-bodied. Would drink again, especially on a hot day.

The pour is a clear medium amber with a white frothy head. The aroma was somewhat mild with a wet cardboard adjunct odor, a mild hint of floral hops and a light touch of sweet malts. I find this to be a smooth crisp brew with a slight caramel malty taste and a decent hoppy finish. Definitely a well balanced Lager and would be a great brew for a nice spring day...

Tasted like a worse version of yuengling. The head was fluffy and it poured a weird gold. Mainly a bready lager that lacked much else

Pours a clear yellow, leaves no head or lacing on the glass.

Smells minorly of hops.

A weak malt character with a slight hop one, this flavor profile leaves a lot to be desired.

Light bodied, thin, leaves as slight oily residue in the mouth.

Don't think I would want to ever drink this again.

Poured from 12 oz bottle into schooner glass.

Appearance: a 2" sudsy off white head falls moderately with some decent lacing remaining. Color is a clear deep golden with moderate streaming carbonation.

Aroma: fairly mild, just some light bread crust and a bit of sweet caramel.

Mouthfeel: fairly light and crisp with a mild, easy finish.

Flavor: toasted bread, some caramel and raisin, a decent hop bite in the finish and lingering in the swallow.

Overall: very good but not outstanding. Somewhat reminds me of Shiner Oktoberfest but with less flavor.

Gold, clear, pilsner looking. Average head with pretty nice lacing. Aroma is malty with a hint of light hops, citrus. This beer is malt forward, barely, with the hops coming out and making a nice showing. The balance is nice on this one and the finish is clean !!

This was a surprisingly good. It's a hopped up lager. I was surprised at how good it tasted and how easily it drank. Clean , no off flavors or scents. Looks a little hazy and thin head with hardly any retention. Slight orange tint to the body. First sniff shows plenty of hops. I thought it might be a pale ale. On my first sip I was pleasanty surprised to find all crisp bready lager. Cracker and a hint of caramel underneath to balance with those extreme hops. Bit of a watery finish even though the mouthfeel is medium. These hops did not add bitterness to this drink. Just aroma and flavor. This brewer did the hoppy lager very successfully in my opinion. Better than many.

12oz bottle, no apparent freshness date. Thanks to my brother-in-law and father-in-law for the "Family Reunion" mixed 12 pack for my birthday.
A - golden with exceptional clarity and a nice frothy off-white head that holds good retention and fades to a foam
S - grain, spicy & grassy hops
T - grassy hops pair with grain, faint caramel, mild grassy and spicy hops; nice overall balance
M - lighter body, moderate carbonation
O - not bad. I prefer it over the Premium beer and the Czech Pilsner that were also in the mixed pack, but I wouldn't buy this in the future.

A - Pours a pilsner yellow amber. Forms one finger of head that dissipates down to a steady half finger, has nice whispy lacing.
S - Sweetness, hops, has a kind of IPA aroma to it, perhaps caramel in the background and some citrus.
T - Mild alcohol and sweetness, tastes like 1 part IPA and 3 parts pilsner, basically an INCREDIBLY light IPA taste, not too in depth in flavor, but definitely easy drinking, thirst quenching and quite sessionable.
O - A decent beer.
V - I have to give it a horrible rating for value as, this beer is a special reserve item and as such you can nowadays only find this in the Shiner family variety pack, and you only get one when you buy it. Worth a try though.

Standard pour into a flute yielded a one-finger white head that fell quickly to a thin layer and left light lacing on the glass. Beer is a clear copper color.

Aroma is sweet and biscuit-y, not a huge hop presence on the nose, but quite pleasant.

Flavor is much as promised by the aroma- sweet, bread-y malts and light dried-fruit notes. Despite the label claiming this beer is "hop-jacked", the hop presence here is muted, though discernible (this seems to be a common trait to all the Spoetzl beers I've tried so far.) The finish is crisp and slightly dry.

Mouthfeel is light, very easy drinking, especially with its manageable 5% ABV. Carbonation is moderate.

A solid american lager. There's nothing amazingly awesome here, but it doesn't do anything particularly wrong, either. This would be a good beer on a hot summer day, or as way to introduce all-malt craft brews to someone more used to the standard American macro.

Thanks Tony, I raided your fridge :-)

Also, this one is probably really old and out of date. Someone HAD to drink it...

Appearance (3.75) : Pours a nice fluffy and stable two fingered head on top of a honey-copper semi-opaque body. Opacity is about 40-50%. Head descends to about 1 finger and stays, leaving minimal lacing around the glass.

Aroma (3.75) : Grapefruit, spice, some peach, apricot, honey, and wheat notes. It smells a bit like New Belgium's Tour De Fall but much more complex and not so one-noted. Bouquet is medium strength.

Taste (4.5) : Oh. Yeah this is delicious. Those apricot and honey notes come out real nice and although the hop bitterness is there, it's kept muted and in the background yielding a nice yeasty, malty yet still lightly hopped flavor. I can't express how wonderfully balanced this is. It's just delectable. No off-notes whatsoever which is very rare in a pale ale.

Mouthfeel (3.75) : Creamy, yet still fizzy. Light bodied just barely pushing the boundaries of medium bodied. Finish is dry with hints of persimmon.

Overall (4.12) : Although fairly average in all other categories, just like their Hefeweizen the taste just knocks this beer out of the park. As an "american pale lager" this is my favorite yet. It's got so much right and so little wrong with it. So much zing, and no off flavors. This was a freebie which makes it all the more enjoyable...but I would buy this with my own money too! Shiner has some hit and miss brews but this one's a winner. Sweet lips this brew is good!

A pleasant but average beer that is clean and has a bunch of biscuit taste. I would not turn this one down, but I would not go out of my way for it either.

Pours a mild brown/blonde with one-finger head into my glass. I see that it appears to be a retro take on the Shiner brand.

Sweet with caramel on the nose. Label says "hop-jacked" but I cannot discern hops here.

Lots of malt upfront. It's grainy, lightly sweet and does give way to a touch of hops. Otherwise, pretty average.

Ditto for the mouthfeel. Is it a Shiner trademark, this near-cloying sweet finish?

I'll pass.

12 oz bottle was poured into a pint glass.

Appearance: A one finger head was poured that reduced to a thin layer. It is a copper color with good clarity and vision of bubbles coming up through the glass.

Smell: Caramel, toasted malts, pilsner, lager yeast, and grassy notes.

Taste: Same as above with mild bitterness. A bit sweeter than one would like.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied, a little sweet, refreshing, crisp, medium carbonation, and slight bitterness.

Overall: Not a bad pale lager. Reminds me more of a bock than a lager.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 12, 2014.

The pour is yellow to golden-yellow with a fizzy, short lasting white head.

It has a pilsener characteristic on the nose with grainy malts and clean, grassy hops.

The body is light or a little better.

The taste is cleanly balanced grainy malt flavor with a mildly bitter and clean hop finish. Not a lot of lingering but it is semi-dry,

Poured a beautiful, rich golden body with a bit of an orange tint and a thin foam cap of head. For the style it looked fantastic and very inviting. Scents of bready and sweet malt with a medium-low level of floral and herbal hop aromas. A simple, appealing, classic American Lager aroma profile. Very nice. Flavor begins with medium-low sweetness with a nice honey-like character that carries throughout the sip. This is quickly joined by a nice medium-low level of floral hop flavors with medium-low bitterness. In the middle there is a nice mingling of floral and herbal hop flavors mingling with a low level of malt sweetness and slight grainy flavors. Finish is medium-dry with strong floral and herbal hop notes imparting a pleasant medium-low bitterness. Aftertaste is floral and herbal hops and grainy malt. A good, simple, clean, crisp, modestly hopped flavor profile that is refreshing and a good example of an American Lager. Mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with a slightly drying feel and an unfortunately low level of carbonation. It feels fairly good, but more carbonation would be nice. Overall this is a fairly good American Lager. It is pleasantly dry and floral in taste, with a nice floral and malty aroma. The mouthfeel could use a little work, but otherwise this is a solid example of an American classic.

A: The beer poured a nice medium amber, clear with no sediment.

S: This beer has a very pleasant smell, lightness and earthy

T: completely jacked up with hops, distastefully so. I couldn't taste any notes over the insane amount of hops.

O: I did not enjoy this beer, Way too much hops that takes over any flavour profile that may be present, distracting. Will not be purchasing again.

Appearance: Tan, with molasses hints. Clear.

Smell: Sweet malty notes, but not overpowering.

Taste: This is a hoppy lager, but if I hadn't known that I would have sworn that it was a brown ale with a bit of zest.

Mouthfeel: A bit thin, but the end rounds out nicely.

Overall: Enjoyable and very drinkable.
