The major bone I have to pick with most Shiner beers is that they all smell and, for the most part, taste alike. That said, they have expanded their portfolio in recent years and the beers they're doing now, both the year-round and seasonal brews, are all fairly good. A few a better than the others, but they're all totally potable.
The Shiner Oktoberfest pours a nice golden amber color with a decent two finger head. Some lace. The nose is musty and muted. I find this to be the case with most Shiner beers. The yeast they use renders it impossible for me to distinguish many of their beers by smell alone. But it tastes just fine. Malty, nutty, with a hint of dark fruit. It fits the style just fine, in my opinion, although it's not quite as clean as other festbiers I've had. Mouthfeel is firm and almost creamy.
Not a bad beer here. Again, I've had better examples of the style, but this is a totally acceptable 2nd tier Oktoberfest beer. I'm glad I tried it.
