Shiner Oktoberfest pours a lucent orange/amber, very clear with a white head that falls quickly leaving thick but slippery lacing in it's wake.
The aromas has fresh baked bread and a marked caramel aspect.
The taste is a surprise. A bit more than moderate bitterness from the spicy/earthy European hops cuts the malt sweetness making for a nicely drinkable amber lager. The malts are bready and lightly caramel.
The body is a bit lighter than is usual for the style but is not watery at all and actually increases the drinkability.
Over all a surprisingly drinkable Marzen and actually the first beer I've tried Spoetzl Brewery.
