I really hate to give a Shiner product such a low score but this beer is just awful, I was very disappointed since Shiner tend to brew quality brews. The beer pours a nice caramel color with a hint of sugary malts, and it goes downhill from there. The beer tastes very strange, like it is stale or overly sugared. It is sweet and pungent at the same time. It leaves a horrible dirty aftertaste in your mouth and I literally could get only one person to drink one in its entirety. The first time Shiner has let me down, but I am still a fan nonetheless, just steer clear of this bad brew.

Poured into a stein a clear copper/bronze with a well formed one finger crown atop.Caramel, light toast, and bread dough aromas, the caramel malt is the most assertive of the three, maybe a bit one sided but not bad.Caramel sweetness also dominates the flavors at the onset, slightly doughy with a bit os anise-likeflavors in the finish. Its a decent stab at a fest/marzen beer, maybe a little sweeter than I would like but its not bad.

Pours a copper-amber color with excellent clarity; small, off-white head fades fast. Heavy, malty aroma; caramel and toffee with a slight tartness to it, and some grains in the background. The taste has a slightly metallic flavor that is a little off-putting. It comes hand in hand with an apple skin and grape-like sweetness that hits immediately but fades quickly. Caramel malt undertones play throughout the whole sip. Grains are heavy in the aftertaste, toasted and bready. Very low hop profile in this one, maybe some dry florals in the background but at this point, it's a stretch to even say that they're really there. A mild cheesiness comes out as it warms up, again, a little off-putting but not so much as to make it undrinkable. Some leafiness in the very back end of the brew, but it doesn't feel very "hoppy". An astringent bitterness lingers afterwards, with some fading malts and yeast. Thin body, a touch of creaminess, but overall pretty thin with medium carbonation.

Eh, not awful, but not something I'll be likely to revisit. A couple weird off-flavors keep this one from being a solid Oktoberfest. Definitely many better options out there.

The pint has a truly inviting, warm, subdued orange color. I'm not just being non-descript, its truly orange, like a lollypop. It is crystal clear and has about three fingers of fluffy bright white head that dissapates to thin film with dissapointing efficency.

I caught a slight whiff of sweet malt in the nose, with just a hint of cinnamon.

The taste is a light, mellow, malt sweetness with some nut characteristics that are quickly washed away by very citrusy hop bitterness. The aftertaste is bready and pleasing. Though this is not the most complex beer, I feel it is probably the most balanced example of the Marzen style I've had. The color is right-on and it avoids the sickly-sweetness that can often plague a Marzen.

Looks like a marzen/oktoberfest is supposed to look. I like their look, so good points in that catagory. I also like the type of paper they used for the labels on the bottle.

Malty sweetness characteristic of oktoberfests. Spot-on.

Taste is pretty good. Has a bit of that burning sensation that cheap(er) beers give your mouth. Otherwise its a nice marzen, and on the light side.

Better than some oktoberfests I've had lately, and not as good as others. Does Shiner make this one year-round? If so, that would be the advantage to buying this beer: getting an oktoberfest in the spring/summer.

In a pint glass, the beer was an amber color with a pretty small white head and a tiny bit of lace.
Sweet caramel aroma. Not very noticeable, but not invisible either.
Same thing with the taste. Caramel, sweet bread. Again, neither overwhelming nor underwhelming.
Very, very sweet. Too sweet for me.

12oz brown bottle with no freshness date.

LOOK: Dull orange color, clear though.

SMELL: Malt sweetness, fresh baked bread, faint herbal hop, dusty grain, clean.

TASTE: Semi-chewy, wet, mild sweetness, spicy hop, floral, bread crust, toasted grain, slightly dry, clean.

Extremely clean and very drinkable. Just as smooth as it is crisp. Well balanced from malt sweetness to toasted flavors to bittering hops. A happy brew to knock back.

The beer pours an amber/copper color with a white head. The aroma is toffee, earthy hops and surprisingly, some flowery notes. The flavor is toffee, caramel and light earthy hops. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. Not one of the best beers of this style that I have tried, but one of the better offerings from Shiner.

Poured from the bottle.

Clear-amber and slightly orange in colour. The nose didn't have much to it with only a slight malt-sweetness. The taste was more complex than the smell with a nice sweet-malt upfront taste. It was pretty typical for an Oktoberfest-style beer.

Would I buy it again? Yes.

ST: 12oz poured into a pint glass. The bottle does not have a drink by date or brewed on date, nor does the bottle list the alcohol percentage.

A: Clear light copper (not nearly as dark as I was expecting) with a half-a-finger-nail white fluffy head that has great retention. It has steady carbonation.

S: Mild citrus hop, sweet malt, and slight metallic aroma.

T: Bread malt, slight citrus hop, biscuit mild bitterness on the finish.

M: Light and on the drier side.

O: Overall, I am not very impressed. I look forward to fall offerings all year, and I am a huge fan of many German and micro-brewed Marzen or Oktoberfest beers. This one is less expensive than most, and it tastes like that as well. The color is a bit light, the flavor is a bit bland, and the aroma is no very strong. It does have a nice head, but other than that, I would not recommend buying this beer when there are much better examples out there.
