Poured from the bottle into a Gaffel Kolsch stange glass.
A very large bubbled head is made off white and faint tan in color. Sitting on a nice copper amber brown body, crystal clear with lots of cola sized bubbles on the glass. Head manages some retention and there is also some tiny rising carbonation in the middle.
Nose is a light bread malt, small touch of honey. Fairly simple but good and solid.
Taste is fairly interesting. At first mid palate doesn't present much malt tones, and it's slightly wet and watery. Sweetness comes out with a little brown sugar, but then a real nice baked bread as well. Slightly spicy too.
Kind of an interesting Alt, almost "refreshing", in a sense. This one's pretty good from this brewery considering the rest of their lineup. I'd probably choose a different altbier though if I had the choice.

Appearance: Clear, deep reddish-amber body adorned with a moderate, somewhat coarse, and persistent off-white head, with scattered, Belgian-style lacing, and slight carbonation.
Aroma: Prominent toasted malt, with strong caramel and distinct fruit notes, and a somewhat spicy and smoky character.
Taste: Opens with dark caramel, toasted malt, and slightly spicy hops. As the taste progresses, strong black bread notes appear. Later in the taste, a nutty character appears, quite pleasant against the abundant caramel. Finishes with a lingering note of burnt caramel, smoky malt, and grassy hops.
Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, fairly full, pleasant.
Drinkability/notes: A pleasing, well-balanced example, which deserves to be a year-round offering.
Presentation: Packaged in a twelve-ounce brown glass bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a New Belgium Brewing chalice.
