Poured a red-orange colour with a small tannish head. The smell was fairly insignificant. It smelled a little hoppy and a bit like fruit pits. Very faint smell, though.
The taste was somewhat faint as well. It tasted like it smelled: like fruity hops, but very light in flavour. It was high in carbonation and light in body. Lighter than I was expecting this style of beer to be, anyway. I did not really enjoy it as a result.

Pours a clear, amber body with a foaming, near white head.

Aromas are mildly nutty, biscuity with fleeting traces of spice and caramel.

The tastes begin with lightly nutty, lightly toasty malts with a hint of dry, stale biscuits in there as well. Lightly sweet with some slight caramel. Pretty watered-down in overall flavor profile to be honest. Lightly hopped, with light touches of spice and grassiness to it.

The mouthfeel is medium-light bodied with medium-plus carbonation. Crisp, drying, clean finish.

Overall this is a bit mild, as expected, but even more bland than I expected. I drank it down. Pass, next, much better around to offer esepcially in this category. Spend the extra few bucks for some quality.

Welll. Poured with a nice fine, foamy, off white head that lasts and good lace. Color is a lovely garnet amber. Aroma was weird: skunk and funk. Flavor was totally different: more bitter than sweet, earthy. Like the commercial description. Body is a tad on the thin side. Carbonation is good. Finish is like flavor and rather long.

Pours a light amber with 3 fingers of fluffy cream colored head. Average head retention & lacing

S: Cereal notes& cornyness, not much else

T: Cereal & caramel notes up front, a touch of cornyness, some herbal & metallic hops lurking in the background. Dryness & crackery notes as this warms, just a whisper of caramel & metallic notes. Finishes dry & crisp with leady & herbal hop bitterness

MF: Light/medium bodied, overcarbonated

This isn't a horrible beer, but my first batch homebrewed alt I made back in 94 was as good as or better than this. This is a light hearted attempt at the style at best

Ap. Copper gold color w/ an okay head at first and a nice big fine head on the second pour. Nice.
Sm. Not too much. Caramel at first and some veggie?
Ta. A bit of malt and caramel and slow developing bitterness for the finish. A little bit of sweetness in there, too.
Mf. Light and a bit frothy.
Dr. A decent beer; I would not object to another.

Picked this one up in a mixer sixer from Shiner. Poured from the bottle into a pint glass, beer is clear medium golden color which looks similar to apple juice and an off-white soapy head. The nose is a mix of fruity malt and citrus notes. The taste is similar with sweet fruity maltiness intertwined with a citrusy hop presence; there is also an off putting bitter, buttery finish. Mouthfeel is medium to full in body with a creamy, inactive carbonation. Overall, not really impressive or remarkable, won't be searching this out in the future but wouldn't turn it down if someone gave it to me.

A: Decent amber color, minimal head and lacing.

S: Kinda hard to place, my best guess is some sort of herbal aroma that I can't figure out.

T: Pretty generic. Tastes a bit malty with some bland herbal taste mixed in.

M: Very thin, a bit overcarbonated.

D: Hard for me to drink - the herbal taste/smell is almost medicinal and I felt it was overcarbed too. Despite being very thin and low ABV I didn't find it particularly drinkable.

Shiner Old Time JALT

C: 4.0 - Nice medium brown/amber color. Pours with about two inches of white/linen colored head.

S: 4.0 - Sweet. Malty. Citrus undertones. Not a complex combination of aromas, but it is pleasant.

T: 2.5 - Light sourness. Flat and watery. Minimal flavor. It's refreshing, but becasue its essentially cold water, not because of the aromas and complexities in its nature. Quite a dull tasting beer.

M: 3.0 - The beer is pretty watery, but has some body.

D: 2.5 - It's pretty light and easy to drink, but the poor taste doesn't make me want to drink another. Good thing I only bought one.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Obtained this as part of Shiner's mixed six pack of small batch brews. Pours a clear amber-orange, with a 1" head that unevenly pillows down. Moderate carbonation dances to the surface.

Malty, with plenty of grassy grains, barley, and faint lemon. Frankly, rather unremarkable in smell.

Moderately sweet, with very low bitterness, with plenty of grassy/straw taste, some floral notes, ending a bit lemony. Essentially, it tastes like it smells.

Light bodies and easy drinking.

I'm not familiar with this style beer, so I have no idea if alt biers typically are this sweet. All I know is that this beer is not really for me. I mean, it was good enough for one, but I'm not going to be rushing out to by another.

12 fl oz bottle served in a pint glass, reviewed live:

A- Pours a transparent copper/orange color with a decently creamy head of two fingers. Retention is mediocre, but I'm surprised at that even.

S - Caramel, toast, cream, and bright floral notes. Interesting.

T - Cream and caramel open to lovely floral notes and pear. Finishes a bit bitter to nicely contrast the otherwise sweet body. Simple, but well executed.

M - Crisp and light. The light body can't transport the flavors where they should be.

D - This beer has actually given me some hope for the brewery. It's nothing special, but it's an easy drinking beer I'd have again.

Thanks to jjfoodie and yelof77 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is toffee, grain and nuts. Decent, but not too exciting. The flavor is toffee and nuts with a grassy hop character. There are no objectionable aspects in the flavor, but there is also nothing exciting or complex. Completely average. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Another new beer from Shiner that is decent, but nothing really worth seeking out. Still, it is a lot better than a lot of the other year-round beers made by Spoetzel.

A - Amber, copper, ruby in color. Head was light tan/yellow, about a finger. No lace.

S - Malty, fruity nose with some nice herbal hop notes.

T - Malty, fruity, tangy with an herbal, spicy hop bite/finish.

M - Crisp, clean finish, light in body, with a slightly effervescent-like carbonation profile.

D/O - Drinkability is pretty easy, and its a decent Altbier. It's worry a revisit while it's around, but I likely won't.

Pours a nice amber color with 1/4" of head that quickly fades. Smells of sweet malt with a very light hop aroma. Taste is malty but with a welcomed hop bitterness in the finish. Moderately carbonated and light to medium bodied.

Rather weak flavor profile and a little thin. Nothing really stands out here.

Presents a clear, amber body with light head. Not much head retention. Light toasted malt nose. Medium body with a tad too much carbonation. Subtle bitter aftertaste.

A fair but undistinguished beer. Maybe a hop presence and a bit more malt character would help with this one.

2.5 fingers of foamy off-white head over a reddish-amber body. Laces pretty well.

Nose is grainy, slightly corny... not an 'alt' smell.

Taste is mild, hops and malt in a balance... tastes more British than German, to be frank. In that sense, tastes like an ale, but there's some faint acrid taste that keeps this alt from hitting home.

Mouthfeel has some out-of place harsh carbonation... without which it would just be watery. A no-go.

This might qualify as a slightly hoppy British style, but I'm not buying the 'alt', and I'm not sold on it on the whole. Not bad, but not good either.

12 oz. Light amber/orange pour. Finger of white head, actually retains pretty well.

Aroma, Just about non-existent. A little caramelly malt, some hay, and light grain.

Taste, some pale malt and herbal hops. A little grainy, but not too bad. A little bread in the middle. Finish just a faint bit of hops.

Lively, easy drinking thinner bodied brew. Maybe a tad watery, but comparable to the others I've had in the style.

Poured from 12oz bottle into Tulip.

A. Poured 2 finger head. Decent retention. Moderate lacing.

S. Yeast, some floral hop bitterness. Has some moderate caramel malt smell.

T. Caramel malt, some hops, and a weird off flavor, maybe best described as grassy or herbal. Not a whole lot of flavor.

M. Light bodied. Medium low carbonation. Finishes dry.

O. Interesting beer. Smell promises some hops, but flavor does not live up to anything very malty or hoppy. Really kind of strange herbal flavor.

Tasted over three months ago - reviewed from notes.

Pours copper with a thin off-white head that descends to a thin wispy cover. Some lacing sticks.

The smell is of carmalized grain. Inoffensive, but not very aromatic.

The taste is of caramel, nuts (almonds) with a slight hop-touch that gives it a dry-ish finish.

It is on the light side and rather fizzy.

It's a beer with a nice balance and easy enough to drink.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 19oz pilsner glass.

Appearance: Pours a copper color with a small, creamy white head that dissipates slowly and leaves behind a thick ring of lace and lots of floating foam.

Smell: Sweet malt with some plum, grape, and maybe apple and a light citric hop aroma.

Taste: Begins slightly bitter with some citrus notes, finishing with sweet malt and some apple flavor with a bit more light bready bitterness. The flavor is fairly complex, but not necessarily strong- it could do with a bit more assertiveness. It starts off pretty good, but as you drink more and it warms it just starts to taste more and more like just regular old beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with sharp carbonation and a crisp, somewhat dry, refreshing finish.

Drinkability: A solid beer overall and worth a try, though not spectacular. I'd have this again, but I can't say I'd go out of my way to drink it.

Aroma: interesting marriage of roasted malts and flowering yeasts; almost perfumy esters are released at the pour... Appearance: thin off-white head that sits on a burnt orange body; tracings are negligable.... Palate: edium-bodieed; a bit crunchy as an ale would present, but also finishes at the throat... Taste: more hops than malts, but the malts show up late--not a big-tasting ale at all... Overall: Alts are always an odd tweener--thee hybrid linebacker of the beer world--and this one is representative, with an Oktoberfest/Munchen flavor and a freshness that throws some ale weight into it....

Mouthfeel - ok?

Overall - easy to drink, crisp and sessionable. Nothing noteworthy

It had a copper color and the foaming head hung around for a while before fizzing down.

The taste was interesting. I'm not sure what to make of it, yet. It hit you with flavors but dies as you swallow.

The beer isn't as "thick" as I thought it would be. It just felt a bit thin.

Overall, it's not a bad beer, but it's nothing to write home about. To be honest, it's not a favorite style for me, and I think I actually preferred 512's Alt over this one.

poured from the bottle into my most "strange-like" pilsner glass

A - Pours a perfectly transparent, dark copper. A fair amount of bubbles stream to the off-white, creamy, two-finger head. Looks very inviting out of the bottle. Head is only a ring of bubbles 2/3rds of the way down the glass. Leaves a decent web of lacing on the top 2/3rds of the glass.

S - A little bit of caramel malt on a layer of sweet corn and adjunct notes. Opens up a bit in the glass and the adjuncts become less noticeable.

T - A bit of caramel and corn cereal upfront. The body is dominated caramel malt, which in this case is a good thing a the earthy hop notes mesh with adjuncts to create an awkward corn mash bitterness. A flash of earthy hops as the beer passes over the back of the tongue, followed by an exceptionally dry, stale caramel finish.

M - Medium bodied with enough carbonation to give a nice creamy mouthfeel. Could with stand to be heftier.

Despite being labeled as a "Limited Edition Brewer's Pride Craft Brew," the Texans at Shiner once again show that they are incapable of successfully emulating traditional german beers on a budget. Although to their credit, Old-time alt is a much better attempt than their Bock. However, in the end too many adjuncts to cut costs come through and keep this to being an acceptable, not good brew.

A - Pours with half a finger of off-white foam on top of an amber colored body with perfect clarity. The head settles rapidly and leaves little lace.

S - Light toasted malt with a hint of hops and little else.

T - Toasted malt up front with some slightly sweet caramel. The toasted notes continue through the middle and light bitterness creeps in at the finish with a dry toasted note that lingers on the palate.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish.

D - Quite drinkable, this isn't the best Alt out there, but it is a reasonable interpretation of the style. The aroma is a bit subdued with little to enjoy, but the flavor is very nice with lots of toast and some caramel to keep things interesting.

A - Pours a copper color with a very fine but kind of small head. Pretty fine lacing. It lasts a little while. Lots of carbonation bubbles. Very clear.

S - Caramel malty smell. Very sweet. A little bit of hops at the end but it is overshadowed by the bready caramel. Pretty aromatic but nothing too special.

T - Very smooth taste thats full of malty bready flavors with just a hint of bitter. It's pretty good but not the best.

MF - Clean and light bodied. A little bit of carbonation but overall pretty smooth

From the mixed six and it's a decent beer. Nothing spectacular but ok.
