Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Hennepin glass.

A: Pours a clear and bright amberish orange. Small off white head that is thin and settles far too quickly, very thin ring and no real lacing.

S: Aroma is dominated by a fresh baked bread and caramel sweetness, a little bit of a citrus note shows up in the background, and a bit of a spicy/wood like hop.

T: Decent balance between the sweetness of the malt and the woody/spicy hop. A little yeasty, but not overly so. A little note of fruity esters as well.

M: Lightly carbonated, thin body, and a little bit slick.

D: Easy drinking. Dry, woody finish, very low ABV, and nicely balanced flavors.

This one isn't bad. Drinks very easy, as it should. Good beer to sit and drink over.

I poured a 12 oz bottle of this into my glass mug...

The beer was copper with red hues, there is a thin white head that quickly fades.

It smells a little smoky, with lemony hops and hints of dark fruit.

Tastes slightly metallic, notes of caramel malt, apricot, and a lemony hop bite.

There is a medium to light body with good carbonation and a dry finish.

I really enjoyed this beer, Shiner is stepping their game up for sure.

A - Crisp, clear copper color. Nice sized, creamy, smooth, slightly sticky, off-white head. Pretty good retention with a nice thin, creamy lace.

S - Faint aroma, but what is there is a good amount of caramel malt. Some hints of hoppy aroma - a touch of floral, grassy, and herbal. A very faint mineral aroma as well. Just too weak.

T - Like the aroma, a strong caramel malt with a touch of toffee and toasted grain. Some hoppiness with herbal/floral/tea like flavors and a touch of spicy grassy flavor as well. Definitely more malty and sweet but has just enough of a hop tang to keep it balanced.

M - Lighter side of medium body, average/above average carbonation. Zesty/crisp feel with a slightly drying finish. Pretty refreshing.

D - Goes down easy enough and has enough of a nice hop kick that I wouldn't mind drinking another. Refreshing but nothing exciting.

Notes: Decent beer and representation of the style. Refreshing and nice to drink, but it is nothing that really excites me or entices me to drink more. Aroma is seriously lacking though. I'd have no problem drinking some more if given to me, but I probably won't seek it out.

Poured into a pilsner glass from a 12oz bottle.

A - Pours a medium copper, forming a creamy 1 inch head. Medium rings of lace stick to the glass.

S - Nice balanced aroma of sweet malt and floral hops.

T - The malt presence takes the front with a nice bready taste, with just a hint of caramel, before finishing with a taste of light floral hops. Very well balanced.

M - Light bodied and good carboantion. Very smooth and clean.

D - Very nicely balanced ale from Shiner. Light and easy drinker. Although it has its own taste, you can still tell that this is a Shiner product. I would love to see this as a six pack for the summertime.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a 19oz pilsner glass.

Appearance: Pours a copper color with a small, creamy white head that dissipates slowly and leaves behind a thick ring of lace and lots of floating foam.

Smell: Sweet malt with some plum, grape, and maybe apple and a light citric hop aroma.

Taste: Begins slightly bitter with some citrus notes, finishing with sweet malt and some apple flavor with a bit more light bready bitterness. The flavor is fairly complex, but not necessarily strong- it could do with a bit more assertiveness. It starts off pretty good, but as you drink more and it warms it just starts to taste more and more like just regular old beer.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with sharp carbonation and a crisp, somewhat dry, refreshing finish.

Drinkability: A solid beer overall and worth a try, though not spectacular. I'd have this again, but I can't say I'd go out of my way to drink it.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner glass. Obtained this as part of Shiner's mixed six pack of small batch brews. Pours a clear amber-orange, with a 1" head that unevenly pillows down. Moderate carbonation dances to the surface.

Malty, with plenty of grassy grains, barley, and faint lemon. Frankly, rather unremarkable in smell.

Moderately sweet, with very low bitterness, with plenty of grassy/straw taste, some floral notes, ending a bit lemony. Essentially, it tastes like it smells.

Light bodies and easy drinking.

I'm not familiar with this style beer, so I have no idea if alt biers typically are this sweet. All I know is that this beer is not really for me. I mean, it was good enough for one, but I'm not going to be rushing out to by another.

Pours a transparent amber-red with a 1 finger head and nice lacing on the glass. Smells slightly metallic with a sweetness presented by the malt. Tastes more complex than the other Spoetzl brews-I perceived it as a brilliant upfront hoppy kick with sweetness settling in afterward-kind of opposite of most beers. Overall quite a delicious beer overall but could use a bit more malt backbone and more hops to really fill it out.

Thanks to jjfoodie and yelof77 for sharing this bottle.

The beer pours a yellow color with a white head. The aroma is toffee, grain and nuts. Decent, but not too exciting. The flavor is toffee and nuts with a grassy hop character. There are no objectionable aspects in the flavor, but there is also nothing exciting or complex. Completely average. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

Another new beer from Shiner that is decent, but nothing really worth seeking out. Still, it is a lot better than a lot of the other year-round beers made by Spoetzel.

Welll. Poured with a nice fine, foamy, off white head that lasts and good lace. Color is a lovely garnet amber. Aroma was weird: skunk and funk. Flavor was totally different: more bitter than sweet, earthy. Like the commercial description. Body is a tad on the thin side. Carbonation is good. Finish is like flavor and rather long.

12 ounce bottle, one of the 6 beers in Shiner's Family Reunion 6-pack. Served in a Stange/Altbier glass, the beer pours a clear orange/amber color with an inch and a half off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both good. Aroma is mostly toasted malt, along with some caramel and hops. The aroma is nice, but it's also weak. The brew tastes just like the aroma (but stronger), it's mostly toasted malt but also some caramel and hops are noticable. There's a nice lingering bitter grassy hop finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a little bit slick and is well carbonated. Drinkability is good, it sure goes down easy enough. I thought this brew was a pleasant surprise, I liked it.

A - Pours with half a finger of off-white foam on top of an amber colored body with perfect clarity. The head settles rapidly and leaves little lace.

S - Light toasted malt with a hint of hops and little else.

T - Toasted malt up front with some slightly sweet caramel. The toasted notes continue through the middle and light bitterness creeps in at the finish with a dry toasted note that lingers on the palate.

M - Medium body, moderately high carbonation, and a somewhat dry finish.

D - Quite drinkable, this isn't the best Alt out there, but it is a reasonable interpretation of the style. The aroma is a bit subdued with little to enjoy, but the flavor is very nice with lots of toast and some caramel to keep things interesting.
