Poured from a 12 oz. undated bottle into a stein: clear, deep golden with a foamy white head that receded leaving some lacing on the glass.
Rather fresh, lager-like aromas of perfumy, European hops and hay.
This dortmunder begins lightly malty with a surprising fruiy flavor that was unexpected from a dortmunder style. The hop profile is almost nonexistent. The flavor ends abruptly leaving very little lingering in the aftertaste.
The mouthfeel was rather round and thick, but rather one dimensional with very little aftertaste. The carbonation is low for a lager.
This was an interesting beer: a dortmunder called a "spring ale" by a brewery known for lagers. It was not refreshing or zesy enough for a top quality dortmunder, though it is worth trying. There are better interpretation of this style available.
