12oz bottle poured into Pint Glass
A: Poured a light copper color with a little less than one fingers head that quickly dissipated to a fine ring around the exterior and a small spot in the center as the carbonation rose. There was some lacing, but not enough to really talk about.
S: The aroma is very light and refreshing with hints of fruit and some breadiness. There is a crispness to it that is difficult to ascertain exactly what is bringing, but the effect is the same as walking out in the morning on a dew covered lawn. I guess some would call it "grassy", but that isn't quite right.
T: Follows the nose pretty well with a more earthy hop note present. The malt is detected in short amounts off and on as a low sweetness that counterbalances the grain, hops, and spices.
M: A very smooth feel, the carbonation is well done, but by no accounts can be considered "fizzy". The aftertaste is of a slight hop taste, but not the bitterness you would experience from a more hop-centric beer.
D: I really can't compare this to beers of the Dortmunder style as my only other sampling is Dog Days and that was probably three years ago. As far as I am concerned this is an average Spring release from the boys at Spoetzl, meaning this is something you can grab a case of, throw it on the boat, and enjoy the day out on the water. Too bad it isn't in cans, that way I could take it with me Toobin' on the Guadalupe.
