A golden color and a little hazy. The head that dies immediately. No head retention and no lacing. Lots of bubbles let you know that the beer is still alive though.

Sweet, citrusy and a good helping of ginger. It's actually a pretty nice aroma.

Thin and spritzer like. All of the carbonation and sweet citrus flavor up front almost makes you think you're drinking a soda but then you get a mix of grapefruit and ginger. Those flavors are then joined by a light malt base but it's the ginger that rides your tongue all the way through the finish.

It's very refreshing but it barely feels like I'm drinking a beer. I think I could get something very similar by mixing ginger ale and grapefruit juice. It's very refreshing and good for the summertime heat, but it needs to look and feel like a beer.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a moderate amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a finger high off white head that died down rather quickly, leaving only a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light aromas of ginger are present in the nose.
T: The taste is somewhat similar to a mixture of Fresca and ginger ale (with some malts) and has notes of ruby red grapefruit and ginger, the latter of which lingers through the finish. No bitterness is detectable.
M: It feels light-bodied and slightly watery on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This 'beer' is really easy to drink, but it's not interesting enough for me to want more than one of these where I would call it sessionable.

A: Pours a crystal clear medium golden yellow in color with light amounts of visible carbonation and some copper highlights. The beer has a quarter finger tall fizzy off-white head that quickly reduces to a tiny patch of extremely thin film and a very thin ring at the edges of the glass. Minimal amounts of lacing are observed.

S: Light to moderate aromas of lemon and ginger.

T: Upfront there is a light to moderate flavor of pale and caramel malts. That is followed by moderate flavors of ruby red grapefruit, lemon, and ginger which lingers through the finish. Minimal amounts of bitterness are present and fade very quickly.

M: Light bodied with a moderate amount of carbonation. Thin and watery.

O: This is easy to drink but reminds me more of a Radler than anything else. I don't think I enjoyed this one. As another reviewer stated, it reminds me of Fresca combined with ginger ale more than it does a beer.

I saw this one on tap during my last visit to Houston. I like some of Shiner’s offerings so I thought I would give this one a try.

Served in a standard shaker, the beer is copper with minimal head. It has a nose of citrus, sugars and malts.

Taste starts sweet. Red grapefruit, minimal hops some grainy malt. Beer turns citrus puckering midglass. In fact it becomes more unbalanced as it warms.

Mouth is bordering thin but zippy carbonation makes it average. Glad I tried it, would only repeat on occasion.

Gold in color. Light tinge of ruby/amber. Goes flat in under a minute.

Big ginger in the nose with a citrusy backdrop. Notes of treacle and faint grapefruit.

Tastes a little like ginger ale. Prominent ginger note comes off very refreshing. Faint citrus notes. Grapefruit is actually a bit of a stretch. A little minty in the finish. I think that's a hop contribution.

Higher carbonation. Weak, because the beer doesn't hold its own in the body.

Refreshing, I guess. Totally one-note. Works like an alcoholic ginger ale. That's pretty more much it.

Overall not a bad beer but wasn't one of my favorites. The appearance was light yellow with a nice head, sniffed and found an abundance of grapefruit in the nose. The taste was a little odd with a quick yet intense grapefruit flavor, but then it immediately was gone and overtaken by a sweet, almost molasses, flavor that tasted like breakfast sausage. Interesting but not the best I've tried.

Poured from a 12oz. bottle into a standard pint glass,
Clear gold in color, with a thin, quickly fading head of white foam.
Aroma-Juicy ruby red grapefruit
Taste-Faint malt note, thin bodied, almost watery. Muted grapefruit flavor. A bit of a letdown to be sure. I had high hopes for this one on a 90 degree day but it was not to be. But hey, a little more carbonation and body to fill this beer out and we could be talking a great summer brew here. But until then, my score must stand. C'mon Shiner!

Nice finish.

Its not too sweet, not to fruity. The grapefruit is there but its not too strong, the ginger is slightly watered down. The smell is there more than anything.

its a good summer beer from what I've had, grant it I haven't had too many grapefruit beers. Overall, I enjoyed it.

Pours a light copper, no head, and a lot of carbonation rising to the top. Nose is strong ginger with just a hint of citrus. Taste is predominantly ginger with hints of grapefruit. The ginger really dominates, not in a bad way (because I like ginger), but the grapefruit doesn't get an equal share here. This beer is heavily carbonated, very light, and crisp.

It's not awful. It's at least different from most light, tasteless summer beers.

This was a decent beer. It had a strong grapefruit smell which is to be expected from a beer that hinges the flavor profile on the fruit. It often reminded me of Shiner's Hefeweizen, but that may have been due to the citrus notes. It was refreshing on a hot day and I would have it again, but I don't really see myself buying a six pack of it. Not great, not bad. A decent beer.

Pours golden with no head and no real lacing.

The smell is of sweet grapefruit and some ginger. There is a slight "beer" smell, but it smells more like a fruity malt drink.

The taste is of sweet grapefruit juice. Grapefruit from the juice, slightly "artificial", certainly not from the hops. There is some dryness from the ginger in the finish.

It is light-bodied and crisp.

If you want a nicely carbonated summer refresher with grapefruit juice and ginger that has some "beer" character it's not a bad choice. It is what it is.

Pours a golden amber with almost no head.
Smells of sweet malts and citrus.
Taste is overwhelming. Burst of ginger (not fresh tasting) up front and subtle notes of grapefruit. I would have probably stuck with just the grapefruit without the ginger, but it is not awful. A bit of a dish soap taste to it though.

Served on tap in a pint glass

Appearance – Served a amber color with a tiny white foam of a head. The foam head faded fast to give almost no lacing.

Smell – The aromas were of a light wheat maltiness with a good deal of sweet grapefruit aroma.

Taste – The taste was very similar to the nose. It had a light wheat base which in the beginning that was mixed with a sweeter grapefruit flavor. The grapefruit bittered a bit as the taste went on leaving a light sour taste to linger on the tongue.

Mouthfeel – The body of the beer was quite light and the carbonation level was very average. The light body suited the grapefruit flavors well, although a more robust level of carbonation may have been more fitting for the beer.

Overall – Very easy to drink on a warm summer day (which is how I had it). With the low abv and easy drinking style it makes for a good session beer.

$ 8.99/sixer at Wegmans
Undated bottle at 40 degrees into imperial pint
Aroma of grapefruit and ginger
Head small (2 cm), white, fizzy, very rapidly diminishing to leave no layer of ring
No lacing
Body medium yellow, clear
Flavor begins with grapefruit and quickly fades to leave ginger. No alcohol, no hops, no diacetyl
Palate light, watery, lively carbonation

When I first had this three years ago, I really liked it. Now, not so much. It appears that the ginger has become predominant with the grapefruit taking a lesser role. It’s still OK, particularly since it’s a lawnmower beer. I can also detect a little skunkiness, probably thanks to Wegmans well-lighted cooler. It loses points for lack of head and lacing and for the skunkiness.

12 oz bottle, w/o freshness info

Pours hazed medium amber with very minimal head. No film,collar,lace...nothing.

Lite grapefruit on the nose, with a hint of caramel.

Taste up front is sort of an artificial, bordering on plastic infused fruitiness. Perhaps some grapefruit, but mostly nasty and artificial tasting.

Ok on a very hot day is about the best I can say

A: poured a clear dark golden color. No hint of head.
S: citrus, ginger, grapefruit...interesting.
T: kind of astringent..a tad bitter, pick up on ginger and grapefruit the most.
M: thin body, mild carbonation. Tad of a bite on the tongue. Bitter hang. Unremarkable.
O: not a great effort. It could stand to be more flavorful and not quite as cloying.

Probably expired. I got a bomber of this for $1.99, it's February, and this is a summer beer.
That asside, I just bought a grapefruit sculpin and decided I needed this as well.
Obviously pales in comparison to the former.
The head fades fast, no lacing
Smells of grapefruit and ginger. Not much else.
Tastes like the same.
Could be a great refreshing summer beer, but I would like it to have a little more beer flavor to it.
If it were a bit worse, I might guess it was a mass produced flavored beer.

12 ounce bottle - $1.49 at Total Wine & More in Kennesaw, Georgia.

Appearance: Pours out a golden-orange body, quite clear, and with a bubbly white head that was gone in the time it took to yell at Meemo the cat for clawing up the poor, defenseless carpet. That idiot.

Smell: Ginger. Ginger. Ginger. Ginger. Ginger. Grapefruit. It's like a game of "Duck, Duck, Goose" where every so often you'll pick up a hint of grapefruit and then can jump and run around the room waving your arms and hollering about.

Taste: The malts and hops really take a backseat here to the ginger, if they're even in the car at all, though there is a very small hint of basic grains. As my tongue develops an eventually immunity to the heavy ginger, I can pick up some of that grapefruit character with some tinges of tartness and citric acidity to it. That's about all there is to it.

Mouthfeel: Light-bodied. Lightly carbonated.

Overall: Maybe the ladies will like it. I was considering waking up the girlfriend for a sniff and taste (of the beer, you horrible monsters), but I can already hear the "you woke me up to try some goofy beer?!" rant, so I'll bypass that headache. Me, I was not a fan of this, but I didn't get too angry about it. That'd be like getting angry at a can of Vernors.

I poured a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance- Clear golden color with a slight red tinge. One fingers worth of quickly disappearing head with no lacing.

Smell- Grain and ginger aromas with a hint of citrus.

Taste- Ginger flavor with a hint of pale malt and a sweet grapefruit finish.

Mouthfeel- Light bodied with a slightly below average amount of carbonation.

Overall- While this isn't a bad tasting beer, it is not one I would try again.

Thanks to turfy for hooking this up in a trade.

A - Poured a golden color with a white head that leaves some lacing behind

S - Is mostly of ginger with some pale malt

T - Wow this is more like drinking ginger ale than a beer lots of ginger in the flavor and thats about it for me

M - This beer has a light body with higher carbonation to it

O - While this isn't the first beer I'd grad its still a decent midday beer for a summer day if you like ginger ale then chances are you'll like this one

Poured into a pint glass, i got a thick bubbly head that quickly dissipated and was left with no head at all. There are strong apple, orange and pear aromas that are very pleasing to the nose. Its crystal clear with very little carbonation and is a dark golden/blonde color. Its light bodied with strong citrus flavors (grapefruit and orange mainly) and is tart overall. There’s no alcohol taste at any point when you drink this beer.

This was an interesting beer. Pours a pale, dingy yellow with a fizzy body, medium head, low retention and ok lacing.

The aroma is of pale malts, grapefruit, and ginger.

The taste follows with over the top ginger and grapefruit juice, pale bready malts underneath and a touch of caramel sweetness. Interesting, but tart and strange.

Thin, crisp and watery..a little overcarbonated.

Overall, interesting, not bad, wouldn't drink more than one.

Appearance: Dark golden brown. The small white head dissipates immediately and there's no lacing. The cabonation looks OK.

Smell: Grapefruit

Taste: Grapefruit juice in water.

M: Light body, nice carbonation, thin and watery.

Beer shouldn't taste like grapefruit. It should be reclassified as cider or something. I'll never drink it again.

Light amber color, chill haze. Good amount of carbonation rising. Thin head.

Grapefruit, some ginger, faint bready malt.

Grapefruit and ginger up front. Semi-sweet bready malt. Finish is sharp and crisp. Body is light and water, crisp, refreshing, fizzy.

It's mediocre.

Appearance: Clear medium amber in color, with a large, persistent and coarse off-white head. Streams of miniscule bubbles drift lazily to the surface. The lacing is thin and scattered.

Aroma: Ginger and grapefruit rind dominate the aroma. Thankfully, the aroma is more spicy than sweet, avoiding disturbing comparisons to "malternatives". There is a moderate pale malt note as well.

Taste: Citrus and ginger flavors dominate from start to finish, but, thankfully, without any syrupy sweetness. Clean malt notes are present as well, but in a supporting role. The taste finishes with a mild, lingering grapefruit rind note.

Mouth feel: Smooth, soft, and pleasant.

Drinkability/notes: Its different, but not at all bad. Served very cold, it is actually quite refreshing on a hot Texas summer day. Cheers to Shiner for something out of the ordinary.

Presentation: Packaged n a twelve-ounce brown glass longneck bottle with a twist-off crown, served in a standard Pilsenerr glass.
