The aroma must be the rye as it seems slightly ripe.

The color is an enchanting light brown, red, and orange like a lingering deep sunset. There's not much lacing. It's crisp and floral on the tongue. I didn't pick up an obvious chocolate or caramel flavor.

It lives up to the promises on the bottle for a "roasted sweetness" and "spicy rye." The flavor is complex. My husband likes hoppy light beers and I prefer rich dark ones. The Ryes & Shine is a unique blend of the two opposing forces that somehow work.

Sampled last night on 8/11/14. Bottle chilled down to 36 degrees F in my beer cooler and poured into a tulip glass.

Pours a pretty reddish-brown in color with a almost a one-finger foamy off-white head. Some spotty lacing is seen which each sip. Perfect carbonation. Lots going on with the aroma and what I can pick out is malts, dark fruit (cherry?) with some spice. Even more going on with the taste with caramel, barley with even a light hint of nuts in the mix. Medium bodied. Just a slight bitter finish. Overall, it was just OK.

Appearance (3.00) : Small off-white head, red-amber almost cherry-brown body.

Smell (3.00) : Very clear notes of barley and a sweet nuttiness, I'm thinking almonds and sunflower?

Taste (3.25) : Caramel malts with barley.

Mouthfeel (3.00) : Not sure how I felt about the carbonation, but overall a very clean, refreshing feel.

Overall (3.00): A very okay beer, and an especially good one for the price, in my opinion.

Pour a deep amber, almost black color with a small amount of pale white head.

The scent is of cocoa, bready malt, and roasted grains.

The taste is of roasted chocolate malt, toasted bread, and toated grains.

Light body, very creamy and smooth, very low carbonation.

This was an ok beer, even though there was a variety of flavor I thought it was a bit too light.

look: 4 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3 | overall: 3

Appearance: Reddish-brown, good head.

Smell: Toast.

Taste: Hints of rye spice, toast a little bit of fruit.

Mouthfeel: Watery, not much body.

This rye beer is a lot less flavorful than the one from Schell's I recently tried. Pretty easy to drink since it is quite watery, but not much going on in the flavor department.

look: 3.5 | smell: 3.5 | taste: 3 | feel: 3.5 | overall: 3

Appearance: pours a brown color with a short 1/2" head that broke down quickly.

Smell: some malt and caramel is all the nose can detect.

Taste: caramel, mild bitterness, a hint of fruit sweetness, and a bit of an overall earthy tone. The rye brings a bit of dryness.

Mouthfeel: medium bodied. Crisp to start, less crisp and a bit dry late. Short lasting aftertaste.

Overall: an easy drinking lager that doesn't overly excite.
