My local, frequent in-person trader, tone77, recently dropped this off for me in his latest batch of beer in support of The CANQuest ™. I am always anxious to see what he has for me when he stops by!

From the bottle: “Assertive Aromas & Hoppy Brightness”; “Golden Color & Rich Malt Flavor”; “Every Drop of Shiner is Brewed in Shiner”; “Wild Hare is a classic American Pale Ale – richly hopped, fruity and floral. Munich malt nicely balances the assertive character of the U.S. Golding and Bravo hop varieties that give this brew its signature bitterness and aroma. Enjoy!”; “Hop to It!”

What happened when, while the lady was gardening, she bent over to pull up some carrots that a rabbit had already set its sights on? She got a Wild Hare up her ass! I simply unscrewed the top on mine and held it upside down by its back legs in order to skin it. It tried to rabbit on me, but I am wise to those sorts of tricks so I held tightly to its tail until it settled down. The pseudo-cascade formed three fingers of dense, tawny head that slowly fell, leaving behind some great lacing. Color was Amber to Deep Amber/Light Copper (SRM = > 9, < 13) with NE-quality clarity. Nose was an interesting mélange of earthy malty sweetness and grassy, earthy hops. Say, what had this Wild Hare been eating before I caught up to him? Maybe he had been off to see his f**k bunny, which is allowable and understandable. Mouthfeel was medium-to-full, approaching, but not quite achieving creaminess. The taste had a definite earthiness to it, which while not unpleasant, seemed a bit out of style. Remember, they described it as “a classic American Pale Ale”, which I equate with SNPA and this was nothing like that. This seemed more English than American and could lead to disappointment in a more discerning drinker. I will try anything once, so who am I to talk? Finish was semi-sweet and more in keeping with an English Pale Ale. I dropped this dumb bunny and watched him scamper away.

Pours a nice golden color with a huge frothy head into my glass. Not bad for what I was expecting.

It does have the grassiness of a pale ale in the nose. I can't think of much else to say.

It tastes somewhat like a pale ale. I think the yeast just doesn't work here. It's too sweet with not enough hop flavor.

Ditto for mouthfeel. It's better than I expected but nothing to write home about.
