Doubly good in triple digits, our unique summer seasonal is made with the fruit of the prickly pear, a cactus native to Shiner, Texas. With a tart, citrusy flavor and a crisp finish, it’s the best use of cactus yet.

If you enjoy prickly pear you will probably enjoy this. Not overwhelming and a very nice beer to enjoy on a hot day.

A lite summer type beer with a fruity citric flavor and floral aroma. Presents a thick head that rapidly dissipates but leaves plenty of lacing.

The prickly pear is overpowering and it wasn't as refreshing as I expected.

This is a refreshing and well-executed fruit beer that tastes natural (it does not have artificial flavors), goes down easily, and is incredibly light and sessionable. It of course has the pear flavor, but it also has a general citrus flavor from the citra hops that add some level of complexity. Still, this beer does not intend to be the next world class beer and is rather a refreshing and better than average fruit beer that is really hard to turn down even for the most picky beer drinkers (it's just hard to admit that it's so good).

Great beer for sitting outside by the water and relaxing. Tasty and not too sweet however may be too heavy for some.

A-pours a nice transparent copper color with a white head with average retention
S-alot of pear, a bit of citrus
T-again the pear is dominant with a more bitterness than expected to follow, malt provide a decent balance
M-medium-light bodied
O-pretty drinkable basic brew, wouldn't seek it out but wouldn't mind drinking on a hot day

Pours a slight, white head. Clear, copper color. Sweet, fruity, tart aroma. Starts slightly sweet and fruity, with a touch of tartness. A real nice, crisp prickly pear tuna flavor. Near the end, the smooth malt shows through. Finish is a touch of that malt with prickly pear tuna.

This is surprisingly excellent. If you like eating nopales tunas, this is for you.

Picked this up last week in Totowa, having never had this before. I had the impression that this would be a lawnmower beer and while that turned out to be the case, I ended up liking this more than I anticipated. It was light but nicely balanced, flavorful, and crisp. When it comes down it it, what more could one ask for during these warm weather months?

Nice pour to this, as the beer had an almond hue and a bit of body to it which ensured that it wouldn't be completely clear. Not a bit head but the foam that remained stuck around until the end and was light enough to slosh back and forth after every sip. Nice lacing for something of this sort as there were quite a few rings left on the bottom half of my pint glass. Can't ever say that I've ever had anything made from a prickly pear cactus but what the taste was like was tart raspberry, some light citrus, and a faint amount of earthy hops. A fair amount of sweet malt balanced those notes out nicely and this almost reminded me of a Gose, without the salty aftertaste. The carbonation was good and this went down pretty smooth while having just a bit of juice in the aftertaste.

The alcohol was light in this and I don't think that I'll have the other bottles around my house for very long. Beers need to be fun sometimes and this fell into that category and rather than drinking something from a Macro brewery for those sunny summer afternoons, I'll be reaching for one of these instead. Probably on the level of Shiner Bock in terms of how easily accessible and laid-back it turned out to be.

Pours a clear amber body, not quite as dark as Shiner Bock. Head is 1/5th an inch and off white. Head retention was barely average and so was lacing.

First smell is definitely fruity, but more apricot than prickly pear. Sweet caramel/toffee malt is also present. No hops or alcohol detected. Funky yeast aroma fades in and out.

Taste is of sweet, slightly tart fruit. Like in the nose, I pick up more apricot flavor than prickly pear. Tastes similar to Magic Hat #9 but not as good. Malt is sweet and imparts a touch of caramel to beer. Very light tropical hops are detected, alcohol is very light.

Mouthfeel is a little heavier than most fruit beers but well carbonated. Head died pretty fast unfortunately.

Overall, this beer was interesting and unique but not really great in any facet. Fell kinda flat in taste and mouthfeel but for what its worth its a decent summer beer.

Terrible. Shiner is pretty awful brewery. No IPAs, no imperial stouts, no barleywines, nothing interesting at all. This is one of the worst beers I've ever had. I went in thinking fruits and refreshing. The pear flavor was horrible, very artificial tasting. I'd drink piss over this.

Nice looking brew, full head and leaves a nice crown. Huge fruity aromas. Smells like prickly pear juice or sorbet. Taste is crazy. Intense prickly pear. You have to respect that. This is not a tolken fruit beer... They embrace the ingredient. But it doesn't work for me. Too sweet, too soda like. They try to balance that with bitter hops, but the combo doesn't work. Sticky sweet in the front and bitingly bitter on the finish. All that and the alcohol comes through. Feels like a bad wine cooler at the end of the day. I really want to like this...

Enjoyed from the 12 oz bottle in a pint glass. This oddity pours a nice light amber with a light head that dissipates to a medium ring and spotty lacing. Nose of flower, light hops, and light sweet malts. Flavors follow the nose with a sweet light tart berry like flavor to the front and middle of the taste, giving way to a medium tartness surrounded by citrus notes and a light floral hop note on the back. Crisp mouth feel and a light dry finish.....what the heck have I just had keeps coming to mind.

Interesting. Drinkable. Not a lot I can say about it.

I enjoyed this from the bottle chilled in a willybecker.

The color is deep amber with light haze and thick white head with good retention and fine bead. The smell is fruity and floral with slightly tropical smell and slight sweet malt odor with mild berry type aroma. The feel is a mix of yeast and light malt with moderately bitter texture with semi-high carbonation and mostly dry finish with light body.

The taste has a mild yeast with vegetal type flavor up front with fruity tangy prickly pear and hoppy spice in the middle with subtle pine in the middle and earthy aspect with berry-like element in the finish which is pleasant. I wasn't sure what to expect even though I have tasted raw prickly pear...this is true to that taste with some bitterness and fruity flavor respresented well. This is enjoyable to drink with a nice dry finish -refreshing, I would drink this on any hot day

A pretty good summer brew after a long day. Comes in Pretty mild then a nice whoosh of pear swiftly hits the palate. Unfortunately the fruit flavor exits as quick as it came, which ends in a fairly mild carbed Pilsner.

Copper colored. Sweet berry flavor -- raspberries and candied pineapple. I guess this is what a prickly pear cactus tastes like. Light refreshing mouthfeel, overall I like it a lot. Fruit/veggie beer often rubs my fur the wrong way but this is a very pleasant taste that goes well with the malt.

Rating #1000...probably should write a proper review! Didn't feel like tracking down any whalez for the occasion, so I went with the opposite (while also honoring my years in Texas).

Pours a clear burnished copper with two fingers of fairly quick-receding, just slightly off-white head. Aroma dominated by melon, berry, and sweet grain. Mild carbonation and a thinish mouthfeel.

Fruit-forward flavor with raspberry and melon notes and lingering grainy sweetness. Just a touch of grassy bitterness. Definitely heavy on the prickly pear flavor without being overly sweet, but some more bitterness would have helped to balance this one. Much better than Shiner's grapefruit offering.

12 oz bottle poured into a chalice. Pours a hazy brown-amber color with two fingers of foam. Aroma is full of sweet pear flavor... almost reminiscent of shampoo.

First sip is a perfumey sweetness with a mild finish. It has a decent sweet flavor, but the prickly pear is not super enjoyable. A decent attempt at a fruity beer, but nothing memorable.

Poured from a 12oz bottle into a pint glass. Pours with a finger of white foam that dissipated into a quarter finger within 20 seconds. Bubbles are mild when poured and maintain. Amber/dark gold in color. Has strong, sweet aromas of what I assume is the prickly pear fruit. Mild bready malt aromas are also present along with citrus and floral aromas from the hops ( like the bottle says). Initial taste is really sweet from the prickly pear fruit. Very mild citrus and malt flavors enter immediately after initial taste, but the sweetness from the prickly pear practically overpowers them. Mouthfeel is pretty heavy, but crisp. Carbonation is mild. I love the sweetness of this beer. Will be getting a pack of these before summer ends and they go away.

I'm surprised this is getting such low ratings...that said it is a Shiner and this is BA...stereotyping beers and their breweries...to bad.

A sweet hit of ripe fruit rind on the front...just not sure what fruit...prickly pear cactus? Slightly carbonated bitter/dry finish...with the sweetness coming back and lingering on the tongue.

Taste like a light sour...very light on the sour but a very pleasant "fruit" flavor that is hard to describe but extremely enjoyable IMHO. I like this and could/can/did knock down 3 out of a sixer in a hour and a half sitting with my wife taking the other 3...we both agree...

Good summer brew...cheers!
