From a bottle into a snifter. I got this in a shiner variety pack a month or so again. I see it's been retired since then.

Champaign gold in color with thin head but lots of lace.

Smell is pair and orange. It's almost overwhelmingly fruity in the nose.

Tast follows the smell exactly. Orange and pair with some bitter hops. Very unique match of flavor and heavy sweetness.

Lightly carbonated and smooth but not as easy drinking. I couldn't have more than one before the sweetness got to me!

From the 12 fl oz bottle. This may be retired but I tried it on November 30, 2014.

Average looking pale yellow to light amber pour and a long lasting bug white head.

The aroma has plenty of pear on the nose and I guess that is what it should have considering its name. Sweet overall.

Light to medium body.

Like the aroma there are many fruit characteristics happening here. In some respects it reminds me of one of those Dole fruit cups from the grocery store. Steeped in syrup and sweet all around but nothing extraordinary.

from a single into a nonic

A: clear golden apricot, 2 fingers head
S: interesting: faint floral perfume, sweetness, a little tartness, and some melon. I've never tried prickly pear cactus fruit, so...?
T: sweet and floral at first, then you get a little bit of tart bitterness and (what I think is?) wheat on the back end. Lacks a little integration of flavors, though it isn't all that complex. Doesn't linger too much, and not as crisp as one might expect.
M: clean, light, watery/syrupy.

not uninteresting, but I don't think I'll seek it out again. Maybe it would be different in warm weather...

I served this beer chilled (~5 C) and I really liked the sweet fruit flavor. It doesn't have much body nor aftertaste. As a native of San Antonio, this beer really does taste like prickly pears - prickly pear margaritas are a specialty offering of San Antonio. I think the flavors work very well together.

The only bad thing is that it only comes out about once a year!
