A recommendation from a cousin as being one of his favorite beers, so I figured I'd give it a go.
L - rocky white head atop a slightly hazed golden ale, good head retention and lacing
S/T - funky yeast, grass, biscuit, lemon, earth, pepper, spicy noble hops
F - refreshing, thin-to-medium body, finishes dry and fairly clean with modest bitterness; I always seem to find Shiner beers to be a bit chalky and this one is as well
O - fairly decent farmhouse ale, not sure I'd get it again, but I'm always up for trying something new. If my cousin showed up with some to share, I'd definitely drink to that.

Appearance: deep golden color and slightly cloudy, 1/2" white head recedes quickly. Very light lacing. Noticeable carbonation bubbles streaming.
Aroma: somewhat funky yeast dominates, with some malt in the background. Definite hop spice aroma as well.
Mouthfeel: a little light for the style, it is mostly watery with a dry finish.
Flavor: the sweetness of the malts meld nicely with the spicy hop varietals and that dominate yeasty, breadiness.
Overall: a very fine beer.

I don't know a lot about Farmhouse style beers. I am learning, I have had some really good Saison/Farmhouse ales and this one tastes nothing like any of them. I basically get a lighter version of the Bock by this brewery. Its was an alright summer beer, but I would not buy this one over others in the same price range. I have drank a lot of the Shiner Bock over the years and usually at Robert Earl Keen concerts, since he seems to be a promoter of this beer. I personally prefer the other Texas mainstay Lone Star to Shiner, but its an alright beer. I don't believe I will be purchasing this one again, but it was worth trying. It might be just what you are looking for. But after some of the other great beers I have had this year, this one was just so-so.
