12 fl oz brown glass bottle with cute legacy label and branded twist-off cap acquired as part of a variety 12-pack box at me local HEB grocery and served into an Independence Brewing pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Austin, Texas. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average given the brewery; I'm a fan of the sort of generic "Premium Lager" style as well. Reviewed as such; I see nothing on the label (or the website) that identifies this as an "American Pale Lager."

Served cold, straight from me fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as I pour.

Pours a one finger wide head which is wretchedly thin. No creaminess or frothiness whatsoever. Dull and weak looking. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is poor - about 40 seconds at best.

Body colour is a clear watery yellow, typical of the style. Translucent and transparent. Below average vibrance. No yeast particles are visible.

Overall, it looks like your typical adjunct lager. There's a healthy amount of visible carbonation bubbles.

Sm: Clean barley, straw, obvious corn adjunct, tap water, and a heavy cereal & grainy character. A handful of hops lend a generic floral character to the aroma. I also get a hint of caramalt. A biteen buttery. Some might call it grassy, but I don't know that I'd agree; it's really more of a grainy aroma. Unfortunately, corn adjunct is dominant here.

No yeast character or alcohol is detectable.

Inoffensive, but there's little here to entice. There aren't any off flavours, and it doesn't seem watery - which is a lot more than I can say about most Premium Lagers. Comes down slightly on the sweeter end of the bitter/sweet spectrum.

An unappealing aroma of below average strength.

T/Mf: Sweet corn adjunct, leavening grains and cereals, clean barley, straw, a bit of caramalt, some buttery character, and a handful of hops. Painfully simple, but it does have a decent body to it. Could certainly be more imbalanced, but it's wanting. Zero depth of flavour; poor duration and intensity of flavour as well. A bit on the sweeter side. No complexity or subtlety really at all.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through.

Smooth and wet. Light on the palate, but unrefreshing due to the sticky syrupy adjunct character. Good thickness. Decent crispness, even a bit of overcarbonation and an accompanying bite.

Not oily, harsh, gushed, or boozy.

The mouthfeel is far from married to the taste, but it does suit it in a general sense.

Dr: Quite average for the style. If you're looking for a passable adjunct lager, you've found it. Hides its ABV decently and is pretty drinkable for what it is. If Bud/Miller/Coors drinkers switched to this, I'd be a happy man. It's nothing unique or special, but it's downable beer at a reasonable price point. You could do worse than getting a couple of these in your variety box.

I like Shiner Bock original (the Bock) it's a decent beer, I even like Kosmos quiete a bit..
For me this Kölsch Brewer's pride is a real t*rd.
At the very best, this beer was like drinking Lucky Lager, Old Milwaukee, Milwaukee's Best, Mickey Bigmouth, Rainer Beer or maybe even Black Label. Heck, If I were in High School or College again and just wanted to get blitzed this would be okay, then.
However, the fact that its price is that of a premium beer, one would expect much more than this..What gives????... In my opinion, and it's mine and mine alone, I think Shiner needs to pack this one up and forget it. Seriously, I was really disappointed and I like some of Shiner's brews. This is a marketing focus opinion for free and it's brutal, but I'm being honest. All successful Companies know that you give your customer what they want and not what you think they'll like or need.

Slightly above average, sweet, and clean lager. Would not be the first I would go to, but not one to turn down either.

Poured from a bottle into a pint glass.

Appearance: Lighter yellow with a thin white head.

Smell: Almost no smell, light corn, wheat, and malt.

Mouthfeel/Taste: Smooth light bodied. Taste of light hops and malts with wheat and corn.

Overall: Nothing special about this beer. Glad I tried it.

Easy-drinking chugger from Spoetzl. Not a lot of smell or taste for that matter. Maybe a step up from standard US macro brews, maybe not. I wouldn't turn it down on a hot day.

Clear medium straw color with a thin bright white head that has very low retention.

Not much to the nose: crackers, lemon zest and a little Wonder bread.

Really pretty bland on the palate, crackers and a little toast. Really no hop feel to the beer and no bitterness.

Medium- bodied and a little watery with a short finish.

It's not offensive, but there's just nothing here. Pretty generic.

A - light golden yellow with a thin, loose, bubbly head that dissipates quickly

S - grainy, sweet, somewhat grassy

T - cereal grains, grass, mild sweetness

M - light bodied, crisp, a tad overcarbonated

This isn't a bad beer by any stretch. It isn't a beer I'd be quick to label craft, but it is a beer that is far superior to any macro/adjunct lager. This beer does have the qualities such as good drinkability that one would look for in a beer such as this. It's also refreshing with a low abv which makes it an ideal lawnmower beer.

Pours to a nice 1" head that falls to a thin ring of foam that is permanent. Lacing is minimal. Color is pale gold. Aroma leans toward malt and a bit of white grape juice. Some hops detected in nose. Flavor is clean, crisp and refreshing. Pilsner malts with a balancing noble hop bitterness. Mouthfeel is appropriate to style. This is well made and easy to drink. A good summer session lawnmower beer without all the damn spices, fruit or funky yeasts.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle. Has a pale yellow color with a 1/2 inch head. Smell is mild, some malts. Taste is light, mild, some malts and grains, almost like a light beer. Feels light in the mouth and overall is a mediocre brew, nothing offensive, just bland.

From the 12 fl. oz. bottle. Sampled on August 11, 2014.

Brewed from pure artesian well water the label exclaims! And it pours straw yellow with a foamy, white head that lingers. Loads of carbonation bubbles roaring up the pilsener glass I put it in.

Aroma of grains, malts, toast, rice, and corn with a clean crisp hop bite.

Light body.

There is a sweetness to the malty character in the flavor with grainy notes and a nice, clean hop bite to finish.

If I didn't know Shiner better than I do (which, being from Texas where their products are nigh ubiquitous, is quite well) then I might feel insulted by this beer. As it stands, Shiner Premium isn't very good. There's nothing explicitly "wrong" with it, per se, but it's so painfully average that it's barely a step above something you'd find in a bottle of Budweiser.

So, to start this review off, I'll say that I wasn't disappointed but underwhelmed. This beer pours an exceedingly clear pale straw with a quick-foaming, quicker-dissipating head that leaves minimal lacing. Smell is barely there: a whiff of a vaguely beery aroma, barley malt, not much else. No hops that I can tell. Taste is pretty much the same, inoffensive but bland. It's sweeter than some of the big boy beers, but it's not much different, except for a vaguely metallic taste and a tiny touch of bitterness at the end. Mouthfeel is what it should be for a beer like this, at least. It's crisp, refreshing, goes down easy and leaves no complaints whatsoever.

This beer could and should be better. Just because it's an "American Pale Lager" doesn't mean it can't have at least a little bit of character. If it were on tap, yeah, I'd buy it over a Bud or Miller, but I probably won't be drinking this one again any time soon. I won't just bash a beer and leave, though: like I've said, it did nothing to offend me and it's not exactly a "bad" beer: it just doesn't do anything to set itself apart.

To good health and inoffensive beer.

A: Pale straw. One of the worst I've sen color wise however it has great bubbles and whats left of the head of the brew clings to the edge of the glass for dear life. I like that.

S: Very very faint. I cannot determine the composition.

T: Fair. Bitter notes trying to get through to me.

M: ah even better. Tickles the tongue.

O: Quite drinkable.

A: The beer is clear yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short whit head that quickly died down, leaving only a thin collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Light to moderate aromas of corn are present in the nose—hints of grainy malts become noticeable as the beer warms up.
T: The taste has flavors of corn and nondescript malts along with hints of bitterness.
M: It feels just about medium-bodied and relatively clean on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This beer might look like an adjunct lager, is definitely a cut above with less aromas and flavors of corn adjuncts and a mouthfeel that isn't watery.

12 oz. bottle, with no apparent bottled on date present. Acquired as part of the Shiner family reunion mixed twelve pack. Expectations are about average given the brewery and the genre. Simple, vintage label art, with no abv listed on the bottle anywhere.

Poured into a Miller High Life pint glass.

A - Pours your typical clear pale straw yellow colored body with lots of bubbles rushing topside. One finger of eggshell white head rises and falls within seconds. No lacing. Pretty dull and ordinary to look at, but no worse than your typical American adjunct lager.

S - Smell is of grain, corn, biscuit malts, brown bread, and buttered popcorn. Pretty bland and unappealing, in all honesty.

T - Taste follows the nose: dry grainy malt, mineral water, stale earthiness, hint of paperboard, and adjunct corn.

M - Feel is thin, clean, and watery. Miniscule grains & some metallics on the finish.

Overall, a fairly harmless, bland, and tasteless beer. Goes down like water, with a low sessionable 4.40% abv, Shiner's version of a watered down American adjunct lager, I suppose. Fairly inoffensive and drinkable, just very boring and generic. Although, I would clearly choose this over a Bud Light anyday.

In a mix and match six pack. Side poured with standard vigor from the bottle into a Sam Adams glass.

Appearance - Pours a straw yellow color, similar to a standard AAL, with a decent half finger head that dissipates quickly and leaves little lacing. Anything with a picture of Texas on it, I like it.

Smell - Some faint biscuity-ness, grains, a bit of malts, not much else. Nothing too impressive.

Taste - A sweet, toasty flavor complements the biscuits in the nose very well. Certainly some malts in the mix. While it is not super complex, it is enjoyable.

Mouthfeel - Finishes clean and smooth, leaving a bit of maltiness on the palate.

Overall - I think this is a decent beer for the price (cheap). It won't blow your hair back, but it's worth a taste. Condor recommended and approved.

Can't say I ever seen this beer so I totally picked it up when I found it at my local house of 1,000 dollar shelf. Into a mug.
A - First off twist off love it in a pinch. Secondly is this a light lager? It's so light yellow! The head is pretty nice it takes a while to fizz out. Pretty ok.
S - Distinct house yeast, canned corn, and some skunky husk.
T - It's decent for a lager sweet corn goodness, light toasted husk, and a bit of lager yeast twang.
M - It's much fuller than I expected for a light lager still crisp and light.

Overall It's a good lager much tastier than the typical Stegmeier I pick up. If I see it again for a buck I will try and score a six pack.

Appearance - a clear gold color, with a light head that disappears quickly.

Smell - Sweet smell, mainly malts though.

Taste - Like the smell, sweet and malty.

Mouthfeel - Perfect amount of carbonation for an American Lager, good-bodied.

Overall - I enjoyed this beer a lot, this beer is nice and smooth.

Had this as part of Shiner variety pack. Could be the most bland beer I have ever had. Nothing bad to really say, nothing off putting. It seems like all Shiner beers have the same appearance with different colors. And none seem to have anything going for the nose. This one has nohing wrong with it, very easy to drink. But it also does not really have anything good about it. Basically, meh, easy drinking but, again, meh.

Pours a pale golden color with a thin filmy whit head.

It's aroma is very sweet like milk and honey almost, it's weird but inviting.

The taste is like the smell, with honey and butter and no hop presence besides maybe a slight hint of grass.

The beer's feel has lots of carbonation and is pretty light, with a refreshing finish.

This is a solid session beer but i drank 8 last night and it wasn't strong enough. Good beer though.

Poured into a shaker pint glass.

Look: Crystal clear straw color. Fizzy white head that recedes fast. No lacing.

Aroma: Faint sweetness, grains, corn adjuncts?

Taste: Barely. Pretty metallic, faint barley, a sourness from any hops.

Mouthfeel: Carbonated.

Overall: Light, and not that great from a craft brewer. PBR or Hamms is better.

Pours a clear yellow, left no head, leaves no lacing on the glass.

Smelled almost like nothing, very subtle scent.

Taste is reminiscent of Kirin Ichiban, light toasted malts, almost nothing else.

Thin and watery, very high carbonation, pretty crisp and refreshing.

Middle of the road, light beer appealing to as many people as possible.
