I like this beer.. It's not the best.. it's a good american lager..
The aroma is pleasant... slightly sweet.. and pinch of pine..
Smell is pleasant and sweet..
Taste is better that an adjunct.. not as good as a craft brew..
Mouth-feel is effervescent.. s bit of pop. pleasant to the tongue.
I have tried several Shiner beers and like them all.. A good beer for the price..
And besides.. with a Spoetzl name.. it's just so German.. :)

12 fl oz brown glass bottle with cute legacy label and branded twist-off cap acquired as part of a variety 12-pack box at me local HEB grocery and served into an Independence Brewing pilsner glass in me gaff in low altitude Austin, Texas. Reviewed live. Expectations are above average given the brewery; I'm a fan of the sort of generic "Premium Lager" style as well. Reviewed as such; I see nothing on the label (or the website) that identifies this as an "American Pale Lager."

Served cold, straight from me fridge. Side-poured with standard vigor as no carbonation issues are anticipated.

A: No bubble show forms as I pour.

Pours a one finger wide head which is wretchedly thin. No creaminess or frothiness whatsoever. Dull and weak looking. No lacing clings to the sides of the glass as the head recedes. Head retention is poor - about 40 seconds at best.

Body colour is a clear watery yellow, typical of the style. Translucent and transparent. Below average vibrance. No yeast particles are visible.

Overall, it looks like your typical adjunct lager. There's a healthy amount of visible carbonation bubbles.

Sm: Clean barley, straw, obvious corn adjunct, tap water, and a heavy cereal & grainy character. A handful of hops lend a generic floral character to the aroma. I also get a hint of caramalt. A biteen buttery. Some might call it grassy, but I don't know that I'd agree; it's really more of a grainy aroma. Unfortunately, corn adjunct is dominant here.

No yeast character or alcohol is detectable.

Inoffensive, but there's little here to entice. There aren't any off flavours, and it doesn't seem watery - which is a lot more than I can say about most Premium Lagers. Comes down slightly on the sweeter end of the bitter/sweet spectrum.

An unappealing aroma of below average strength.

T/Mf: Sweet corn adjunct, leavening grains and cereals, clean barley, straw, a bit of caramalt, some buttery character, and a handful of hops. Painfully simple, but it does have a decent body to it. Could certainly be more imbalanced, but it's wanting. Zero depth of flavour; poor duration and intensity of flavour as well. A bit on the sweeter side. No complexity or subtlety really at all.

No yeast character or alcohol comes through.

Smooth and wet. Light on the palate, but unrefreshing due to the sticky syrupy adjunct character. Good thickness. Decent crispness, even a bit of overcarbonation and an accompanying bite.

Not oily, harsh, gushed, or boozy.

The mouthfeel is far from married to the taste, but it does suit it in a general sense.

Dr: Quite average for the style. If you're looking for a passable adjunct lager, you've found it. Hides its ABV decently and is pretty drinkable for what it is. If Bud/Miller/Coors drinkers switched to this, I'd be a happy man. It's nothing unique or special, but it's downable beer at a reasonable price point. You could do worse than getting a couple of these in your variety box.

flat lookin gold color. smell is candied apples, some hop spice, and lots of stinky, skunky wheat. buttery butterscotch butter taste. there are some cleaner yeast flavors coming through and some raw alcohol, but mostly b-scotch and hard water.

Poured into a Guinness glass

A: Clear, golden straw color, moderate carbonation, thin lacing.

S: A little floral and piney, some malts, primarily malts but both scents are weak.

T: A little bitterness at first, mid palate you get some sweetness, aftertaste is bitter then bready.

MF: Smooth and very water. Reminds me of the mouthfeel of a Budweiser.

O: Not very good, the taste is way too watery and there aren't any standout flavors. I think this is just a mediocre beer that just barely has more flavor than macro lagers.

Pours a pale golden color with a thin filmy whit head.

It's aroma is very sweet like milk and honey almost, it's weird but inviting.

The taste is like the smell, with honey and butter and no hop presence besides maybe a slight hint of grass.

The beer's feel has lots of carbonation and is pretty light, with a refreshing finish.

This is a solid session beer but i drank 8 last night and it wasn't strong enough. Good beer though.

Clear medium straw color with a thin bright white head that has very low retention.

Not much to the nose: crackers, lemon zest and a little Wonder bread.

Really pretty bland on the palate, crackers and a little toast. Really no hop feel to the beer and no bitterness.

Medium- bodied and a little watery with a short finish.

It's not offensive, but there's just nothing here. Pretty generic.

A - light golden yellow with a thin, loose, bubbly head that dissipates quickly

S - grainy, sweet, somewhat grassy

T - cereal grains, grass, mild sweetness

M - light bodied, crisp, a tad overcarbonated

This isn't a bad beer by any stretch. It isn't a beer I'd be quick to label craft, but it is a beer that is far superior to any macro/adjunct lager. This beer does have the qualities such as good drinkability that one would look for in a beer such as this. It's also refreshing with a low abv which makes it an ideal lawnmower beer.

Poured from a 12 oz bottle into a pilsner.

A: Hay color. Pours a 3 finger, bubbly white head. Rising effervescence is pervasive. Head craters slowly, and inconsistently. Solid, beer ring lacing.

S: Pale malty grains, and French bread. A little soapy.

T: White bread, with a light indistinct hop bite, and just the slightest indistinct sweet hint for balance.

M: Light body, earthy feel, slight grainy aftertaste. Kind of shallow.

D: Session.

Atmosphere is pretty good. Shallow hue, giant head, lots of effervescence, and some pretty solid lacing. Nose is pale and bready. White bread with a slight hop and a hint of sweetness. Earthy and light. Overall, this is decent quaff.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

Did this use to be shiner blonde? Either way this beer recently appeared in my area so I thought I'd give it a go.

Pours a crystal clear very pale yellow with a one finger fizzy white head that quickly disappears to nearly nothing.

Just a hint of stale bread on the aroma with a touch of caramel and grassy hops. Quite weak.

The same can be said for the flavor. Some bread and corn along with a quick shot of grass from the hops. Maybe the tiniest bit of toast and caramel Almost no bitterness and a slightly sticky finish.

Overall, there is not much to this beer at all. A very light and easy drinking beer but not at all interesting. Not something i will pick up again.

S: Grainy. Floral. Since of some kind of wheat.

T: Grainy. Crisp Clear. Sour at moments. Wheat. Ends very clean.

M: Dry finish. Clear. Crisp. Nothing really to say about this beer.

O: No bad. Not memorable either.

This is not a style I normally drink or enjoy, but this particular beer wasn't bad.

Bright gold clear liquid with white head.

Grain-laden aroma.

Flavor is crisp and clean. Sweeter than most lagers but not overpoweringly so. A little bit of hops.

Mouthfeel is nice and crisp. Decent amount of carbonation.

As expected with a beer of this style, it is best drunk cold.

Overall, far superior to most macro beers or for that matter most pale lagers brewed by microbreweries.
