A soft tropical nose gets pushed aside by grassy, almost astringent wheat, followed by hints of banana taffy. As it warms, the flavors blend and the wheat softens into fresh bread.

Melons, mango, ripe cantaloupe, sliced bananas fruit bowl with wheat crackers. Solid body for a wheat beer. ABV is completely hidden. Slides across the tongue. Short finish.

Since the fruit in this beer a subtle melange of flavors, it's a pretty enjoyable, drinkable take on this style. The higher ABV provides some beef to the body and turns it into more of a cocktail wheat to be slowly consumed.

I love the fact that you can buy these now around the state in a 375 ml bottle, a paw paw fruit spiked imperial wheat ale weighs in at 9% abv. Poured into my new Weyerbacher chalice, hazy golden orange glowing bright body with a pristine finely carbonated white head. Aromatics offer up tart citrus, mango like notes, wild tropical fruit notes with the sharp wheat additions weighing in as well. As it warms up a bit it really weighs in with more tropical fruits like pineapple, ripened banana, and more mango notes even a bit of passionfruit. Flavors are juicy ripened fruits across the board a bit of honeydew melon, mango, citrus fruits, and more tart pineapple the yeast provides minimal spiciness a bit of bready yeast notes with some dryness and alcohol just slightly leaves it's mark on the palate. Mouthfeel is medium bodied a touch of residual sugars left on the palate post fermentation, even carbonation carries it all pretty well. Overall a very sweet beer that highlights the paw paw fruit quite nicely I'd like to track some down to see what it tastes like unadulterated by any booze that this big wheat beer provides.

The Paw Paw Wheat is a much bigger beer than I expected when I opened it. The beer poured a cloudy golden with 1/2 finger thick white head that is not lacing much. The scent has a scent grain base with mellow fruit tinge. The taste definitely has wheat with mild apricot flare. The mouthfeel is full body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a good beer but at 9% abv it would be a tough session. I was impressed that there was not much abv punch that some big beers contain.
