Bottle 406/450 of the 2014 batch.
A: Very dark brown pour. Tall, very dense medium brown head. Good head retention but zero lacing.
S: Heavy caramel from the bourbon. Super malty. Loads of raisins, caramel and heavy bread. A bit of vanilla? A bit of brown sugar too, particularly when swirled. Maybe even the lightest hint of cocoa and anise too for that matter.
T: Strong and sharp bourbon up front. Lots of oak and caramel. Surprisingly hoppy to boot. Herbal and piney and spicy. Heavy bread in the middle...burned bread. Charry on the back end, very much so in the aftertaste as the sweetness fades away. Char bomb between sips, feel like I could cough up a briquette.
M: Heavy, thick, spicy and charry.
O: Huh, not sure what to think about this one. It's like someone blended an IPA, a barleywine and a smoked stout and barrel aged it all. It's like one of the Firestone anniversary beers but the mix didn't really work out. It ends up as kind of a mess. Loads of char overpowers the entire back half of the beer. Oddly herbal hops with barrel aging reminds me of Bolt Cutter. It just doesn't work.

Received in a trade, shared with JLindros. Bottle 230/450 2014 vintage.
A - Poured into a nice dark brown hue with a thin off white head that fades to leave light wisps.
S - Aromas of black patent malts up front, nice light toffee, good light bourbon notes, faint honey.
T - is similar to the nose, lots of black malts, super toasty. There is a fair amount of hop bitterness, nice light honey. There is nice bourbon barrel notes as well.
M - Mouthfeel is lightly carbonated, alcohol hidden quite well.
O - Overall this was a rather nice representation of the style. The hops class a little bit with the black patent malts. Still, this was a very nice beer.

Thanks to rudzud. 2014
Pours a nice creamy darker head that fades semi quickly, pitch black thick color, nice legs, decent lacing.
Nose big toasted barrel, oak and whisky, nice juicy bourbon, sweet caramel candy toffee, some black malt, little burnt malt, a little bitter spicy hop and bitter burnt malt, faint tropical fruit.
Taste brings black malts out front, a little charred and a little dark chocolate, big sweet malt and candy toffee like, little biscuit, faint sweet honey, into some toasted oak barrel, a little bourbon whisky, spicy whisky, into big spicy hops, bitter hops clash with the black malt, little fruity thing, back into burnt malt. Spicy hops lingering, little warming booze and big bitterness between hops and black malt.
Mouth is thicker, nice carb, light warming booze.
Overall pretty nice, the barrel and bourbon was nice, hops were ok but clashed a bit with the black malt, very little booze.
