Very dark with a beautiful dark tan head. Those amazing dry tannins come through really nicely in the nose along with a little must and some light chocolate covered fruit.
Taste falls a little from where my expectations were hoping. Follows the nose but light on the barrel nuance but more forward with slight barrel heat. The base beer feels thin but it does fade into a really nice dark chocolate. Really nice.
mouthfeel is thin.
Overall a let down but still a great beer. Just kinda hyped it up for myself. i was much more impressed with the bourbon barrel aged Oil.

Pours inky, small khaki head, fades quickly leaving a small ring of bubbles. Some dark brown translucense at the edges but for the most part an opaque black. Smell is sweet with sherry notes - dark fruit, a bit of that oxidized sherry tone, concord grape - with nutty, chocolate background. Taste is more of the same, though dry; the sweetness of the smell doesn't translate and you get tighter wine notes and structure to it. Body is medium but definitely thick enough. Really interesting beer.

Aroma is incredible, with huge, rich dark chocolate notes that I don't want to stop smelling. Touch of sherry fruitiness.
Flavor doesn't quite match, with more roast malt bitterness at the base, and a sourness that I'm not sure was intended. Delicious, otherwise.
