This is quite delicious. Having it right out of a can so I won't do a full review. Taste is right and since they used wildflower honey you can definitely taste it's influence.

From the can: Dark cola color...tan head lasts a good bit, leaving behind moderate lacing. Taste of coffee, chocolate, and some honey. Resembles a Porter more than a Brown. Slight bitterness with some fizz. Drinks somewhat thin. Still, very tasty. Worth the coin. (270 characters)

This is a good beer but fails in the aroma department - 3.75

A - Pours a clear dark brown with a dark tan one finger head, very nice lacing - 4
S - All around faint aroma with roasted malts and herbal hoppiness - 3.5
T - Malty, toasty but not burnt, nicely hopped with earthy herbal notes, some residual sweetness/molasses in the middle - 4.25

Reviewed 1/23/2015. Pokal goblet. Canned on date: 11-18-14.

Appearance: Pours a super dark brown with a tan, foamy cap. Remarkably dark, with a little light penetrating at the edges. No bad retention, but not great either. Some lacing.

Aroma: SWEET and roasty. Really inviting smell. A little two-dimensional.

Taste: Not as sweet as on the nose. Slightly tart across mid-palate. Firm roast, but not porter-esque. Right in the middle of the brown ale spectrum.

Mouthfeel: Somewhat light, good, but not overpowering carbonation.

Overall: A little simple; I want to like it more, but there's not a lot of oomph there. I'd buy it again for the sake of local pride, but it's not a favorite brown. (707 characters)

12oz can (canned on 01/20/15) poured into a Libby globe porter glass.

Appearance: Clear dark brown with some dark amber to mahogany highlights. Persistent thin light tan head. Fine strands and islands of persistent lacing noted.

Smell: A bit sweet, lots of roasted malt, a hint of fruity esters, brown sugar.

Taste: Very roasty, hint of coffee, burnt sugar, an occasional hint of butter (diacetyl), light bitter finish that is roasted malt and something else I can't quite place. There is a tiny bit of a metallic tang at the finish, but it is not there for very long.

Mouthfee: Starts off a bit too highly carbonated, almost fizzy, but as the beer warms up the carbonation is spicy and prickly instead. A bit of a dry finish.

Overall / Drinkability: A full flavored brown ale, but I would not have guessed it for the English style of a brown ale. Very tasty and easily drinkable. I think I could easily have another. (944 characters)

Deep, extremely dark brown in color, some auburn hues shine through when held to the light. Minimal head layer. Aroma is sweet and simple.

The flavor profile is nice and specifically well-rounded for an ale of its style. Earthy and hoppy yet still keeping a sweet, simple malt flavor profile with a mouthfeel that is dryer than most of its peers.

English porter? Baltic porter? It seems like theres a little more going on in the glass than the can led on. (463 characters)

We pop the tab on a can, pouring into our Great Lakes pints. It shows the deepest nut brown coloring, holding a one finger head of café au lait colored bubbles. These retain only decently, settling into a creamy film atop the liquid. A thick haze obstructs clarity, but no sediment is noted. Carbonation appears to be mild. Aromatics include soy sauce, bready pumpernickel biscuitiness, brown and caramel malt roastiness, shoe polish, dark chocolate cocoa powders and nib bitters, burnt toffee, salted movie theater popcorn, cloying vanilla icing sugars, light honeycomb earthiness, tin, rumbling phenolic plastics, and crystallized marshmallow sweetness. The tongue meets a different mash, showing notes of table honey and white sugar, moldy margarine, tinny metallics, burnt brown and American black maltiness, raw barley, steeped caramel sugars, woody maple syrups, pale biscuity and buttery diacetyls, bitter cocoa and coffee bean shell, chemically hair gel, burnt coconut and marshmallow skins, parsley leafiness, and soft, cleansing ethanolic booziness. The body is lightly medium, and the carbonation is medium. The mouth is left cooled and coated with sugary, lippy smack. Cream and froth are preserved, while slurp and smack are as well, but to a lesser extent. The abv is appropriate, and the beer glugs back nicely.

Overall, we are thankful to have this recommended to us by Benjamin at The Brick Oven Bistro in Sandusky, Ohio. We had the pleasure of speaking to him a week or so back, and he was able to offer us some of the premier beverages available in central to western Ohio. This was among the top on his list, and we are very happy to have tried it. The nose is incredibly sweet and rich, akin to the liking of Southern Tier’s Crème Brule, but to a slightly more subdued extent. The flavoring, on the other hand, showed a much more bittered, and even smoky approach, allowing for a serious side to this brown ale that was otherwise not yet appreciated. This is an exciting beer for a small brewery, and it leaves us wishing they had wider distribution to keep us warm through the winter months. (2,133 characters)

Pours a slightly darker brown. Nose is great on this one. Strong nut tones with brown ale as well. Flavor is nice. Good nut tones with malty brown ale aspects. Fairly smooth and well done. Easy to drink. Typically, brown ales are not really my thing, but this ended up being a nice one from Jackie O's. (302 characters)

Pours an opaque deep brown with a frothy khaki head that lingers.

Aroma is slightly floral and nutty, with a hint of specialty malt fruitiness and toasted malt.

Flavor reveals slightly sweet, nutty, toasted malt, along with chocolate and lightly toasted malt. There's some fruity specialty malt character that carries into the lightly bitter finish. I'm picking up a slightly metallic note.

Body is moderate, with moderate carbonation and light alcohol warmth.

Great malt character. I don't get much of the honey, but it's a nice, fairly complex, malty ale. The metallic character somewhat offputting. As it warms, aromas of acetone emerge. Houston, I think we have a problem. Drink cold...and quickly! (707 characters)

The Chomolugma English Brown from Jackie O is decent...the beer poured a cloudy opaque brown with thin ecru head that is not lacing. The scent carries maple sugar and subtle sweetness. The taste starts as a typical brown bready then transitions to bitter with a nuetra sweet like finish. The mouthfeel is full in body with smooth carbonation. Overall this is a very interesting brown and well worth a try. (405 characters)

Pours a ruddy brown color with an off white head and a fair amount of lacing. Aroma is malty, a bit toasty and nutty, and also some floral hops. In the taste, mildly nutty with a good dose of medicinal hops. Not getting much honey, which is fine, I'm guessing it fermented out. Light alcohol flavor. Light watery body. Poured into a perfect pint. Stop #2 on my JO's CANquest raises the stakes with one of my favorite style's being evaluated.

4.5 A: Lightly hazed dark amber light brown color. Two fingers of creamy tan head. Retention is very good and a healthy ring of lacing is left behind. Quite nice.

4.5 S: Oh boy is this a treat to cranial nerve #1. Deep, rich nuttiness flanked by toastiness, caramel sweetness, and cocoa powder. The honey is light, but does add a nice extra layer that complements the main flavors quite well. Just a touch of earthy hops.

4.5 T: Cranial nerves 7, 9, and 10 have a good time now. Nuts, caramel, cocoa again do it right with honey having a bigger role in the taste. Earthy hops again. No complaints, very good.

4.5 M: Medium body. Pleasantly creamy. Good moderate carbonation.

4.5 D: Really solid beer. Maybe I'll actually order it next time I'm at JO's. (881 characters)

The beer comes in a dark brown color.

The aroma has big sweetness of toffee, caramel, almost cocoa, and a toasted malt.

The flavor follows with that big sweetness of toffee, cocoa, and caramel in the front. Then there's a toasted breadiness with a heavy herbal bittering on the finish.

The honey certainly adds that sweetness that makes this beer a bit sweeter and more robust than other brown ales. (402 characters)

12 oz can with orange Chomo-lungma artwork. Really an eye catching design. Brilliant artwork. Poured into a 14 oz nonic pint glass.

A - ultra dark brown with the slightest hints of dark amber and light brown touching the corners. Murky and cloudy looking brown ale. Tan head has some size on the pour slowly vanishes to a nice fluffy ring of lace leaving nice stick to the walls of my nonic.

S - slightly roasted bread like malt with hints of graham cracker notes up front. Sweet touches of honey with a layer of rich cocoa powder. Nutty character toward the back of the nose.

T - biscuit malt, toasted brown bread, honey, graham crackers, hint of dark fruit, cocoa, and a hint of dark chocolate. Pretty solid take on the English brown.

M - medium bodied with nice thickness. Texture is just fine for the style and highly drinkable. A nice smooth mouthfeel and quite enjoyable.

O - first offering I've had from Jackie O's outside of their pub and I must say its a pretty darn good brown ale. There is nothing mind blowing about it as the can may suggest, but it is top shelf quality and a good ale to enter their canned lineup. Ill buy again for certain and I look forward to experiencing more offerings from the ever expanding Jackie O's brewery. (1,253 characters)

A huge CANQuest (TM) note of thanks to Uncle JedI and PurpleHatJoan for dropping several CANs on me during their recent, all too brief visit to Lancaster, PA! Let's face it, Jackie O's is near-legendary, if not full-on legendary and I do not know how long it might have taken me to get these CANs otherwise.

From the CAN: "sustainably crafted with purpose"; "brown ale brewed with wildflower honey"; "Design by Kevin Morgan Studio Illustration by Bryn Perrott"; "Brewed in honor of Brian Oestrike's May 23, 2007 Mt. Everest Summit".

Hoo hah! The Crack! awoke Kong King Chomolungma with its loudness, setting off an avalanche in which we hid in the same crevasse to escape its wrath. Ol' Boy was looking at me with all four of his eyes until I inverted him and began a heavy-handed Glug. It didn't help matter that he was another craft brimful CAN, but I got him upturned all the same. The pseudo-cascade was quick to subside, creating a dense finger of light-tan head as its result. Color was a deep, dark-brown (SRM = 44), allowing only minimal light penetration at the edges. Nose smelled of dark chocolate, roasted peanuts, fudge. It reminded me of my late-Pops' favorite ice cream - Rocky Road! Mouthfeel was big, full, and creamy and the flavors melded together so nicely that it could have been Rocky Road or a liquified Reese's Peanut Butter Cup, but either way, it was totally evocative of my late Old Man. He really got sent by the chocolate/peanut butter combo and went for Tastykake Peanut Butter TandyTakes as well. Chomolungma was not really happy with the way I was describing him, so I began to back away and make my way up and out of the crevasse. The finish left me with notes of leather, smoke and more of that choco-nut flavor that had been its trademark throughout. No wonder Jackie O's has the solid, stellar rep that they do, if this is indicative of their beers. I am a self-avowed hophead and yet, I REALLY want more of this one, especially on Saturday, 01 Feb, for the annual Hula in the Coola Day! (2,025 characters)

12 oz can courtesy of mgbickel pours a surprisingly dark, near-black color with a frothy tan head. Nice retention and lace...looks more like a Porter than a Brown.

Nose is graham crackers, honey and that dark bread that Outback gives you with your meal.

Taste is rich and chocolaty, with the sweetness pretty dominant - though it never gets cloying as a nutty tannic flavor melds with some hop bitterness to clean it up pretty quick on the back end. There is a little Mouthfeel is really rich for a brown ale, but thats certainly better than the alternative. Nice beer, certainly different than your typical - but it works pretty well. (637 characters)

12oz can gifted to me by boisebeerguy85... Thanks Rich... I appreciate it!! Pours with a nice 3/4" dark tan head... great retention and nice lacing.. the brew is hazed dark brown... looks pretty turbid.

Dry cocoa and roasty malt... just enough malty sweetness to make this one really jump up and kiss the olfactory system.

Flavor has a mild dark fruitiness that moves immediately into the dusty cocoa and light raisin... With warmth a pretty pronounced nuttiness rises up.. dark toast with a hint of what I associate with "Tootsie Roll"...

Body is medium with a lighter small bubble carbonation... Very drinkable.. but certainly something one could sit and ponder for a while... I like it.

Surprised anyone is calling this "English".. It is definitely a big boned brown ale, but 'Murica has it's stamp all over this brew.

12 ounce can into pint glass, no canning date. Pours very hazy/cloudy dark reddish brown color with a 2 finger dense khaki head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass. Aromas of caramel, brown sugar, chocolate, toast, toffee, brown bread, honey, nuttiness, raisin, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and honey notes with light hops; and good strength. Taste of big chocolate, caramel, toffee, brown bread, brown sugar, toast, honey, nuttiness, light roast, raisin, herbal, and toasted earthiness. Minimal bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of chocolate, caramel, toffee, brown sugar, brown bread, toast, honey, nuttiness, raisin, light roast, and toasted earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Damn nice balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and honey flavors; with zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and medium-full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick mouthfeel that is great. Alcohol is very well hidden with no warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent brown ale! All around great balance, robustness, and complexity of dark/roasted malt and honey flavors; and very smooth to drink. Poured into a pint glass.

A. Pours a deep dark brown with reddish hues. What I can manage to see through seems to be moderately hazy. Above the dark liquid floats a lightly tanned, thick fluffy cloud; although the head doesn't disappear, the beer must, and in its wake is a trail of glass-coating lace.

S. Light and unassuming, the aroma here is not its strong point. It isn't an in your face beverage. It is faint, subtle, balanced, nutty, lightly toasted malt, biscuity.

T. Malt forward, similar to smell but with a little hop bite to boot at the finish. Just delicious

M. Medium body, slick-ish but balanced by the bitterness.

O. An ideal brown ale with a little extra hop bite (not big mind you, just enough to notice). The honey that is advertised isn't apparent, but that's ok with me (Beer with honey can be too sweet to try to convey the honey notes, not the case here). My first Jackie O's offering, I can only hope I can get my hands on others and that they live up to how well done this is. (1,006 characters)

Snagged a can from Vintage Estate for 2 bucks.

A - Quite a deep brown ale almost pitch with a bit of brown hue. Head is great a solid inch of mocha wonder. Sticky lacing is nice.
S - A rather sweet brown ale, nutty with notes of chocolate and coffee. I sip.
T - Herbal hop bitterness mixed with walnuts and a touch of chocolate. Not overly roasty with some brown malt tint.
M - Light to medium body. Hides the ABV well. Tasty.

Overall I haven't had many beers from this brewery but this is one solid brown ale. I picked up a few more canned offerings and I look forward to them. (580 characters)

12 oz can served in a chalice.

Pours with a dark red-brown body topped by a small but durable head.

The aroma is rather rich and complex, with chocolate and fruit cake notes. The flavor is even richer, with dark fruits, some spicy hops and a load of roasted grains joining the dark chocolate. Mildly bitter finish, and never as sweet as expected from a brown ale brewed with honey.

Feel: medium body and carbonation; crisp with a slightly dry finish.

O: a flavorful and distinctive brown ale in a can. Recommended. (522 characters)

12oz can into a matching Jackie O's snifter. The brew appears a dark brown almost black color with a dark khaki head a finger strong. A full wall of lace sticks on the glass and the head maintains in a ring around the perimeter of the glass.

The aroma has a big toffee to caremel-like malt sweetness with a kiss of raisony alcohol. A little bit of earthen roast emerges as it warms. The aroma is a tight, enjoyable package for a brown.

The taste has an herbal hop punch before the onset of bitter roasted grain like coffee, earth, ash and tobacco. A hint of something almost like molasses and a fruity raison-like alcohol character into the finish.

This is a medium bodied brew with a modest amount of carbonation. Overall a solid brown with lots of unique character. I would absolutely drink this again, thank you Heath for gifting me with this. (849 characters)

A- pours murky dark brown with a creamy two-finger khaki head that retains nicely after the pour, leaving some lace behind

S- toasted malt with highlights of chocolate and caramel with a nice honey sweetness

T- big chocolaty notes up front with a lightly smoky toasted malt backbone, notes of caramel melds with the notes of honey nicely to give it a sweet finish with more toasted malt

M- medium body and carbonation leads to a foamy and creamy mouthfeel with a smooth and crisp finish

O- this is an outstanding example of the style and underrated IMO. Full flavored with nice chocolaty notes. I'd gladly purchase this again (630 characters)

Appearance: This beer pours a nice brown color and is topped with ¾” of tan head that dissipates rather quickly.
Smell: The smell of honey and malt blended together makes for a rather tasty smelling brew.
Taste: The flavor of this beer is rather unique it has a malt flavor that is tasty yet has a bit of a yeast after taste that I am not sure if I have ever had. I don’t get much of the honey in the flavor but it is a good beer none the less.
Mouthfeel: This beer is a bit on the thin side for a brown ale but Jackie O’s makes a nice attempt at a rather hard style for me to judge. (591 characters)

Robust and masculine, this unique Brown Ale borrows the charm of English Brown Ales, the hops, alcohol and dryness of American Brown Ales, but a savory and fruity tone from Bockbiers for a highly characterful ale while retaining superb drinkability.

Chomolungma kicks things off with a dark "bark" brown color and enough of a haze to diffuse all light, except at the extreme egdes. Its dainty and light khaki head is creamy and dense as it blankets the surface early but holds firm with a coffee creme status late. Its speckles the glass with lace with each swirl and sip.

Its tall-dark-handsome character doesn't stop there- the nose is chocked full of heavy toast, bold coffee, dark chocolate, walnuts, dark fruit, savory burnt caramel, and a bready pound cake-type of breadiness. A pep of alcohol provides a peppery and brandy-like note to reside just behind the malty scents.

Its rich taste is laced with malt sweetness and char to lead- over-cooked caramel, bittersweet chocolate, nutty Columbian coffee, roasted walnuts, and a generally toasted tone defines the beer from sip to finish. But sultry ester tones of grape, plumb and raisin peak through in its brandy-like tone; coupled with alcohol, the vinous side of this Brown really comes through. Then as you think the taste has come to a close, comes a moderately resinous bitterness of wood and stem.

Its robust taste makes its texture want to register heavier to the palate, but its supple creaminess gives a silky, vanilla-like smoothness to the initial mouthfeel. And as the ale traverses across the palate, it lightens and dries consistently for a warm and semi-dry finish.

Even with its honey infusion, much of that floral nature gets covered up by malt and alcohol complexities, as its sweetness is well attenuated for dryness. But after that first sip, we don't care about the honey. We favor the taste that's most present in the ale- and those are effortless and complex. (1,944 characters)
