Got this growler in a trade with Pecorasc..thanks for everything once again Sam!

A- Pours a nice hazy deep brown almost sludge color. When held to the light red hues show up on the sides of the glass. Hard pour resulted in a one finger mocha/light brownish head. This did not stay around for long leaving film across the top of the beer. Lacing of light and spotted but the whole liquid seemed to coat the sides of the glass.

S- I served this a little on the cold side so I let it warm up. I'm glad I did. Big aroma of raspberry and chocolate in this one. There was a light roasted malt this along with some more bready malts. The vanilla came as a light follow up with the rest of the aroma. Everything came together nicely and was mostly well balanced.

T- The taste on this was devine. I am not one for fruits in my porter but this was amazing. Nice chocolate upfront with some bready malts. Light coffee undertones along in the front to middle. Chocolate raspberry taste to me in the middle that fades into a light vanilla hint in the background. The ending of this is raspberry and light vanilla. This beer is amazing in the taste. I was simply shocked!

M- Heavy mouthfeel. Carbonation was a little lacking and while quite good in my opinion, there could have been a little more. Nice chocolate malts left on the palate with a light raspberry and chocolate flavor left in the aftertaste. Felt like everything it touched was left in a light coasting of this beer.

D- This was a very drinkable beer even with the higer alcohol. I poured myself multiple glasses without this beer being too filling or too much in any flavor. Would recommend to any porter lover.

I was quite impressed with this release from Jackie O's. I think they found a new fan in me. Can't wait to get the chance to try more from them!

2008 vintage on tap at March 2, 2013 bottle release.

Smell is all blackberry, tangy juice blackberry pie w vanilla ice cream. Can't even tell this is a porter but it smells awesome. 4.25

Taste is less fruity, still lots of blackberry but also some mild chocolate dark malt, light roast. Good but not as good as it smelled, it's slightly confused. 3.75

Mouthfeel is slightly thin after four years of age but not terrible. 3

O 3.75

A - Dark brown beer with a tan head that left some decent lacing on the sides of the glass.

S - Raspberries are present, but subtle. Nice notes of chocolate and some vanilla. Inviting, and sweet.

T - Good deal of chocolate and roasted malts, with a little bit of vanilla. The raspberry is detectable, but it's still pretty subtle compared to the big chocolate flavors.

M - Lighter carbonation, lighter side of medium bodied.

O - Good beer, preferred the bourbon barrel aged version, but this is pretty solid and would drink it again. Nice dessert beer.

dark brown in color and nearly completely opaque. A huge brown head then rose up over the top of it and took forever to settle down, only actually fading depositing large amounts of side glass lacing.

Lots of wonderful coffee notes, fresh brewed coffee with that delicate sweetness added in that just made the whole thing really come together wonderfully. Smooth mellow taste here. Coffee right up in your face, smooth notes of sugar mixed in along with hints of light vanilla. Wonderful feel here with deleicate carbonation that avoided the too filling side of it. it was almost too good, and too easy to drink, this went down way too fast.

Lookie what I found. Reviewed from notes. On tap at the 5th Anniversary Party in December 2010.

Pours a very dark brown color with a short off-white head and a moderate retention time. A little bit of lacing and a collar as it sits in the glass. The nose brings some roast and a nice amount of raspberry plus some vanilla and a good dosing of chocolate. Flavor has chocolate, raspberries, and chocolate, all blended quite well. Mouthfeel is nice -- fairly creamy and low carbonation. Really nice beer.

08 Black Betty has the 5th Anniversary party. I waited to review this until I had the BA version from the bottle... Looks like the ba version, dark brown with a light tan head, a little better lacing... The aroma is nice with vanilla, creamy chocolate and a touch of raspberries... The taste has a lot more chocolate than I expected, I was expecting and hoping for more of the vanilla and raspberries. They come through just not as much, guess I was hoping for some great vanilla like the Stone Vanilla Porter... Mouthfeel is too light, actually like he ba better.

The base has all the right components but missing something. BA + sour isn't it, maybe just a ba version would make this one world class.

From Notes:

Pours with a tan head, the brew is dark brown with nice lace.

Ok roasted malt and raspberry, hints of vanilla.

Ok we have roasted malt intertwined with vanilla soaked raspberries with bitterness in the finish.

Medium body with a low carbonation, not super thick but fuller then most porters.

Super easy to drink with a hidden abv.

On-tap at the 5th Anniversary Party. From notes.

A - Pours black, tan head which disipitates down to just the black base of the beer. No lacing or retention to speak of.

S - Raspberries, sweet chocolate, vanilla. Like dessert!

T - Chocolate, ripe raspberries, nice toasty malts.

M - Medium, light carbonation, semi-dry finish.

D - I liked this one, however, I preferred the -bal version a bit more.

This was '08 Black Betty served on-tap at Jackie O's. Served in a taster glass.

A - Pours with a thin tan foam that settles to a thin ring. The body is a dark brown with faint transparency at the fringes.

S - Some over ripe raspberries, milk chocolate, vanilla, and a sweet malt backbone.

T - The taste is very chocolate and roast malt heavy, with some light berry character. There's a somewhat off smoky finish.

M - A little thin and watery. Some light carbonation, with a sticky and lightly tannic finish from the fruit. Alcohol is shocking well-hidden.

D - This is extremely easy to drink, and I could have gone for a full pour. That being said, it's not as good as the bottled barrel-aged version. I have a feeling this is probably better fresh as well. Hopefully I can re-visit this when Brad brews up a fresh batch.

It's a Jackie O's beer of course it came from markwise. Cheers to you Mark!

A: Pours a nice deep shade of brown with a pretty tall tan colored head. Nice retention with beautiful lace.

S: Wow like a chocolate covered raspberry. Lots of chocolate, raspberry puree and vanilla. Very decadent, very dessert like aroma.

T: Tasty could serve as a dessert. Nice sweet molasses with a hint of roast. Smack you across the mouth raspberry juice with a nice amount of tartness. Real vanilla beans as well. Tasty and unique.

M: On the thinner side, pretty good carbonation.

D: Really good. Love what Jackie O's is doing, glad we have Mark here in Tampa to bring them all in for our group to sample!

Described as an Imperial Vanilla Raspberry Porter. Served on tap into a snifter at the Pub & Brewery. Served very cold.

A- Dark brown with cherry colored edges that are noticeable even in the dimly light bar. Pours with a creamy tan or khaki colored head that recedes to a thin film before the beer gets to you. The thin film is attractive and allows you to see the beer below. The beer looks hazy. Bubbles on the surface pop slowly and randomly as I sit and wait for the beer to warm up. The thin film of head manages to leave lacing on the inverted edges of the tulip.

S- Chocolate and raspberries dominate this porter. The cold pour gave me quite a while to dissect the aroma, but I still had trouble picking up any vanilla. As the beer warms, more intense chocolate and raspberries with a sweetish, bready malt-backbone. No hops in this american porter.

T- Hits first with a tangy raspberry acidity and morphs into a slightly alcoholic chocolate shake. Even at such a high alcohol, this finishes crisp and dry. The flavors intensified and improved at higher temperatures, but I still couldn't pick up on any vanilla. Very nice rendition on a porter, a style that could probably use some creativity.

M- Stayed traditional with the thinner body of a porter and added some tingly carbonation. Could probably describe this as a thin bodied stout or a medium to heavy bodied porter.

D- Highly drinkable for 9%, even dangerously so. The flavors meld so well together and there is never an after burn from the alcohol. Nicely done.
