22 oz bottle. Golden/rose colored body with a spritzy, fast dying head. No lacing or retention. Lactic aromas, raspberries, pale malts and funk. Flavors aren't as "sour" as I was expecting but there is some nice pucker, raspberry is there, too. Good, but I am thinking this might be past its prime.

22oz bottle, poured in oversized wine glass

A- pours bright pink color with a small foamy head that reduces to just a later floating on top

S- freshly pressed raspberries along with some major funk and some woodsy notes

T- fresh tart raspberries mix with some puckering lacto notes, raspberry jam and some vinous qualities, light toasted oak on the finish

M- medium body with low carbonation leads to a dry, puckering finish

O- one of the better raspberry sours that I've had, very good!

Oh Jackie O's, how Ohio loves you.
Picked up at the most recent bottle release, though not my bottle. So kind of my friend, considering they bottled only 300.

Pinkish, yellowish hue with big, sticky lacing

Raspberries, cheese, funk, lemon

Lemon juice, fresh raspberries, slight funk, really nice acid

Not too big or too thin, this is great for the style.

B.C. hits another homerun. So talented. Thanks Jackie O's!

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 bottle #221/276. Reviewed from notes.

Appearance - Hazy rose body. No real head. Just a couple of bubbles at the edge.

Smell - Big raspberry nose. Acidic. Musty, Hay-like. A touch lambicky (neologism?).

Taste - Quite sour, big surprise from Jackie O's. Overpowers the raspberry. It's still there, but masked. Comes out a bit in the back end but then the sourness overpowers into the finish.

Mouthfeel - Very sour and extremely dry. Low carbonation.

Overall - Jackie O's over-sours everything to the point of covering up the flavors. What I can taste here is pretty good.

2013 bottle #202/300

Very bright raspberry aroma and flavor. Less intense sourness. Oak. Great raspberry flavor. Better balance of acidity and flavor. Better than 2012.

Bottle shared by Chris at Thorpe's going away festivities. Thanks man.

The beer resembles pink lemonade with a thin, wispy head. The aroma brings funk and tartness with raspberries. Lemon juice and raspberries in the flavor with a bit of an acetic finish. Fairly light in body. Tasty stuff. Worth a try.

2011 bomber #84 of 216. Thanks to BA Stormking47 the biggest out of state homer of Jackie O's who hoards more bottles of their beer than the brewery itself. Thanks for breaking out a bottle of this precious elixir you shit bird.

Poured into a matching Jackie O's staff short pils glass that I swiped from the cabinet of the previously mentioned user. The brew appears copper in color with a fine white bubble formation. Some yellowish hints are noted around the edges and spots of lace stick to the glass.

The smell is fresh and seedy like one would expect from the inclusion of raspberry. Also present are hints of funk, sulfur and footy to almost cheesey grain. Not bad.

The taste is tart with the raspberry inclusion sitting center stage. More sips make these beer lean into more of an acidic realm with a backing of cheese and funk. A bit of lemony lactic tartness and wheaty grain inclusion are present into the aftertaste.

This is a medium bodied brew with a light to modest level of carbonation. Fruity that blenda from tart to snappy and sharp. I would drink this again if the opportunity presented itself. Thanks again Wiss.

Appearance: Pours a pink lemonade color with a modest head that leaves just a smidge of lacing behind

Smell: All tartness, with raspberry and magnificent funk

Taste: Raspberry lemonade flavors, up front, and then, the tart and funky parade begins; loads of complexity in the interplay, through the finish, where the oaked aspect leaves an impression'

Mouthfeel: Light bodied with moderate carbonation

Overall: Even by the high standards of Jackie O's, this beer is quite an achievement; so different and so good

A: poured a reddish fuchsia in color with pink highlights and a thin head that barely left any lacing sticking to the glass.

S: lots of raspberry goodness exploding our from the aroma that was more fruit like and not juice. it did have a little lemony citrus, oakiness is present, some acidic character, and mild funkiness.

T: like the aroma it had tons of raspberry fruit flavor upfront including the pit skin and all alongside nice oaky accents, citrusy lemon zing that helped on the sour factor, a little acidic notes, slight funk but nice sour bite.

M: the brew was medium to light in body with a fair amount of carbonation which had a mildly sweet, funky, oaky, fruity and sour finish.

O: It was way better than I thought it was going to be, really surprised me since its from the midwest.

The beer was chilled and actually a bit too cold when opened but this was done to prevent gushers. The beer was served in a snifter and allowed to warm to a proper temperature.

A- The body of the beer is a bright clear ruby coloration. The head of the beer was a lightly purple tinged coloration but quickly resolved.

S- The aroma of the beer is lactic, slightly acitic riding this wave of funkyness is lemony raspberry aroma. Very nice aroma!

T- The flavor of the beer leads with plenty of sour and funky notes yes plenty of lactic and acitic flavors nicely puckering at times. A nearly perfect blending of tart and sour raspberry rides this sour train.

M- The body of the beer is light and funky. The carbonation is lively and helps to cut some of the funkyness up.

O- This is a beer that the Jackie O's crew should be proud of! A joy to drink from start to finish makes me wish I had several more of these available.

Bottle (2011)

Thanks to the Pittsburgh gang for sending this to the Cali gang!

(Aged for 1 year)

Clear orange and light ruby with a small head that leaves dots of lace down the glass.

A very nice aroma for the style: distinct, strong raspberry aroma, milled grains, light caramel, and lactic acid. Complete.

The flavor is also quite nice, with big notes of raspberry and mild funk combining nicely, along with flavors of grain and sweet bread. This also has moderate to high levels of lactic sourness.

Medium bodied with moderate-high carbonation.

I would love to have this one again! This one was better than the sum of its parts.

Bottle to Great Lakes Snifter

2011 Vintage
Bottle 202/216

CA Gang Bang BIF

App- A medium orange with a good density behind it. Zero head or cling with only a small swirl of bubbles on top of the beer.

Smell- The raspberry notes are there with also a small subtle sweet tart grainy note. Had a small wheat aroma with a bit of vinegary lactic acid.

Taste- Only had a small sour flavor but was quite tasty. The raspberry shined through and was a bit thick and had a small acid bite.

Mouth- A medium bodied sour with a lighter medium carbonation. Residual raspberry acid flavors.

Drink- I like the flavors. Most raspberry beers have a weird taste to me. This cut through it and was a good small sour.

Thanks to Callmecoon for sharing this one at NoSignsOfPain's birthday bottleshare hosted by mrbubbler.

Bottle # 96/216.

Pours a slightly murky honey orange with a foamy orange-tan head that settles to a film on top of the beer. Small dots of lace form around the glass on the drink down. Smell is sour, tart, and funky with some fruity raspberry aromas. Taste is much the same with a very tart and acidic flavor. This beer has a good level of carbonation with a crisp mouthfeel. Overall, this is a good beer with a nice sour fruit presence.

A - Quite clear, the Dynamo Hum is a reddish/rose color with orange hues. Not really any head though.

S - Sour - nice and acidic/lactic. The fruity aromas are well integrated - the raspberry is mellow but easily distinguishable.

T - The raspberries are much more assertive than in the aroma. Very sour - about as sour as anything Jackie O's has yet produced. Sour, in all the best ways possible to be frank. There is some nice orange and tangerine flavor going on.

M - There's a notable lactic/puckering effect with this beer. That said, Dynamo Hum drinks really cleanly, has a pleasant finish, and appropriately light carbonation.

O - This was an excellent beer, and lived up to my highest hopes for what it could be. This could easily compete with some of the Cascade sours.

I have since had one or two bottles of this and it is holding up well, though I think I preferred it on tap.

Pours bright pink with a couple fingers of off-white pink hued head. Good retention and lacing.

Intense raspberry tartness in the aroma. Bits of oak and some bugs as well.

Heavy raspberry in the flavor as well. I don't think I've ever had a fruited beer that bursts just like this one. Big raspberry tartness accompanied by some lactic acid and oak. Tart, but not overwhelmingly sour. Finishes bone dry almost like a wine.

Medium body with good carbonation.

This is a fantastic beer and one I hope they release again soon. Another great Jackie O's sour.

Pours a slightly-muddied pinkish-red with a inch of quickly dissipating off-white head with hues of pink. Decent retention and lacing.

Aromas begin with raspberry and light oak. Bit of acidity, though not overwhelming. Somewhat earthy and musty smells emerge as it warms.

The tastes begin with a good dosing of raspberries and the accompanying earthy mustiness. Big lactic sourness mingling with sweet ripe raspberries.

The mouthfeel is medium to light in body with good carbonation. Finish is tart and dry and lightly oaky.

Overall I really enjoyed this. Personally I feel it is at a good level of funkiness and sourness and still plenty of raspberry goodness. Compared to the Cellar Cuvee 6 I sampled back to back, this one is ready to go now where that one needed some more time to sour/develop.

Keg @ EBF.

Hazy brownish red color, light fizzy head.

Nose light sour brown malts, tart fruit with hint of raspberries, slight creamy sweet malt, hint of sawdust like wood.

Taste light tart fruit, sour berry like raspberry jam and dry bready malt, hint of barrel, hint phenol yeast funk and lactic acid almost vinegar but not quite, and touch of vinous earthy seed or stem like, dry but sticky bitter tart finish, dry bready funk.

Mouth is lighter bodied, bit acidic and flemmy, decent carb.

Overall ok, but not great, decent fruit and tart flavors but there are better ones IMO.

Thanks, Jason! 22oz bottle into Darkness tulip.

A - Pours a pinkish/reddish color, light fizzy white head, some bubbles here and there, and a barely-noticable thin ring.

S - Smells like Jolly Ranchers, raspberries, sweet sugars. There's a nice light level of tartness in there as well, which is enjoyable.

T - Tastes like raspberry Jolly Ranchers with a nice tart middle and finish with some fruity sweetness. Very enjoyable and not overly sweet or sour, just about right to really drink though easily.

M - Light body, light carbonation, semi-dry finish.

O - An enjoyable wild from Jackie O's that's super-easy to drink. The raspberry and fruity tart notes are excellent and make this beer refreshing and almost berliner-like. Recommend.

22oz bottle poured into a tasting glass. It poured a very nice looking orange/ruby like color. Not much of a head or carbonation visible.

The aroma has a mix of sour and fruity with just a little bit of funk to it. It's also a little sharp at first. I get a lot of the sour raspberries and citrus showing up throughout. Pretty appealing aroma overall, very sour and fruity.

The taste shows a lot of the sour, tart raspberries to it. Some of the woody oak is more noticeable in the taste as well. It's a little acidic in the finish but not too bad. The fruity raspberries are nice in it.

The mouthfeel is medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Overall it was a good beer of the style, but not great. The tart, sour fruits were good in it but it lacked some of the complex funkiness the great ones have. Overall a pretty tasty beer though.

Pours a hazy reddish brown color with a small off-white head. Definitely get some raspberry on the aroma, maybe a few other fruit notes too. There is a light acetic quality and light grassy funk. The flavor is nicely tart with just a hint of vinegar. Lemon zest and raspberry are prominent with a little bit of oak, straw, and grass. Medium body and carbonation.

Thanks to Jason for sharing this one. Bottle #200 of 216. Served in a Cigar City snifter.

A - Thin white foam quickly sizzles to a thin collar, some wisps, and minimal lace. Lightly hazy amber body.

S - Musky raspberries, slightly overripe fruit, sour candies, and plenty of potent tart and sour flavors.

T - Taste reminds me a lot of raspberry Sweet Tarts. Big lactic sourness mingling with sweet ripe raspberries. Gets very tart and puckering after only a few sips.

M - Medium body, super dry and tannic, no alcohol presence, moderate carbonation spritz, and only light acidity.

D - This was great. I think we crushed this bottle faster than anything else that was opened yesterday. Super refreshing with a great balance of sweet, tart, and sour flavors. Could perhaps use a touch more depth, but otherwise really enjoyable.

Bottle cracked with IrishColonial and billab914.

Served in a snifter.

A. Pours an orange golden color with a faint pinkish hue. A little glow to this one. Minimal head and lacing. Good.

S. Wow. Uber tart nose of raspberry, vinegar, some grape, maybe some apple. Very strong and cutting. Loads of fruit and some funk.

T. Lots of wood, tart raspberry, a touch of astringency and alcohol esters. Tartness lingers in the finish with a good amount of pucker. I get some grassiness here too which is slightly offputting. Good, not great.

M. Moderately carbonated and well balanced. Quite a bit of pucker on this, but good for the style. Barrel aging is apparent. There is an offness to the flavor I cannot quite describe, the wood might be just a little too much.

O. A solid sour from Jackie O's. Would have liked more raspberry though. Sourness and woodiness reign supreme on this one.

Thanks to foofaa for sharing this one with us. Bottle 96 / 216.

A - Pours copper orange, with pink highlights around the edges, with a one finger tall white head leaving no lace at all down the glass.

S - Smells of raspberries, dry oak tannins, wet leather, and some mild vinegar notes. Pretty vinous initially, gets a little better as it sits.

T - Starts off with a big lactic sourness pucker slowly giving way to a mix of raspberry sweetness, light funk, wet leather, tobacco, and lots of dry oak tannins. Finish is bone dry, as it should be.

M - Medium body and flavor with moderate carbonation. Very dry feel, leaving the pallet bone dry by the end of my sample.

O - I liked this one. It has a lot going for it and it was fairly easy to finish. The sourness got a little overpowering toward the end of my glass but thats not a huge deal for me. Good stuff none the less.

Nice light pinkih/amber muddied color with a small foamy top that hust kissed the side of the glass. tart grape skins, cherries and loads of funk, some light spiciness and a decent touch of oak. lots of dark fruit, tart funkiness and a nice earthy, woodsy like smell blending together very nicely on this one. Silk like smoothness, and the finest carbonation bubbles, really well done in that regard. ;ots of sour in here right up front with frapes and light lemon like citrus taking over. Rolling through some nice notes of cherry then came over me. Decent funkiness in through the middle and the finish, but it was actually almost blended out by a cherry like sweetness

22oz bottle poured into snifter.

A: Pours a cloudy dark tea color with a thin off-white head that left a ton of soapy lacing down the glass.
S: Big scents of raspberries with a bit of funk and oak. Inviting.
T: Raspberries all the way with funky, earthy, dry, sweaty, sweet and preservative flavors as well. The finish is full of an oak barrel dry woodiness, and the aftertaste is lightly tart and earthy.
M: Very dry mouthfeel, light body, soft but fizzy carbonation.
O: Despite this being a raspberry forward beer I thought the fruit could have been stronger and more prominent. Still, this was a very solid wild and I would gladly drink it again.
