Thanks to BMan1113VR for providing this bottle. Bottle 50 of 156.

Pours dark brown with an off-white head. The aroma is dark fruit with some coffee and roasted malt. Tons of cherry flavor with some roasted malt in the aftertaste. Some vanilla and oak notes as well. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

Big thanks to James for this one!

A: Pours a rather dark brown color with no foam or lacing. A very thin ring of bubbles forms around the edge.

S: A bit of cherry and red wine up front which transitions into a bit of chocolate and faint roast.

T: Nice cherry flavor upfront, slightly tart with a bit of funk. Definitely has the tannic quality from the red wine barrels. Just a bit of roasted malt and chocolate mixed in, but very much in the background.

M: Light to medium bodied with low carbonation. Slight vinegary/pucker on the finish.

O: I liked this one a good bit. A little more carbonation may have helped, but really dug the wine barrel influence.

Thanks to mistakebythelake (Bill) for this one. Poured from a 22oz. bomber #342/384 into a Cantillon tulip. Shared with schen9303. Reviewed from notes.

A: Standard pour yields no head and no resulting lace. Beer is a dark, almost opaque black with an attractive reddish tint which barely saves it from being a "1".

S: Nose is oddly aromatic and enticing. Sweet and candied cherries, chocolate, some roasted malt, cocoa, and a touch of mellow tartness. Completely unexpected as the funk and woodiness is almost completely missing and its replaced by a fruity sweetness. Nice.

T: Opens tart, grainy coffee beans, roasted malt, liquorice, and some molasses. Tart cherry becomes more prominent towards the middle. Brett funk, wet straw and wood, chocolate, cocoa also. End is coffee, lactose, and roasted malt. Finish is tart cherry. Aftertaste is fruity, sweet, with a touch of roasted malt bitterness. Pretty much what I expected.

M: Medium bodied with high carbonation. Lively, prickly and crisp in the mouth. Grainy and goes down abrasive and dry. Finish is messy with an aftertaste that lingers. Decent.

O: I'm not a huge fan of dark sours so it takes a really good one to blow me away. Cabernet Cherry Man is not that beer. There's too much tartness and its not balanced by any sort of prominent roasted malt, chocolate, or dark beer flavor. Worth trying if you come into it but otherwise, not really worth the hassle.

#91/384

22oz bomber, secret santa 2011

appearance: served in an unbranded snifter, pours a rather lifeless dark brown body - very much a porter at heart, a bubbly brown cap forms somewhat spontaneously

smell: lots of tartness on the nose, wood, bacteria, roast, cherry

taste: the base beer has been pulled in a number of different directions here - tart cherries, bacteria and yeast, oak, vanilla, and yeah even some chocolate roast from the porter in there somewhere

mouthfeel: tart, and dry finishing

overall: cool stuff - taste the rareness

Many thanks to csmiley for the bottle.

Cab Cherry Man pours a dark, chocolate fudge color. It’s not opaque. A little light reveals burgundy highlights. Unfortunately, carbonation appears to be very low. No head formed on the surface at all. None. Zip. Nada. That’s disappointing.

The nose is very interesting. Smells pretty good. It definitely features a funky, Brett scent up front. It’s not overly strong, but there’s no mistaking it. The cabernet barrel aging is also apparent. It has a distinct tannin scent to it. Oak and cherry notes follow. There might be a light roasted malt scent, but there’s not much here to suggest it has a Porter base. Alcohol is a little noticeable, but is blended well overall. Not bad. More Porter-ish scents would be a good thing.

The flavor is good. I actually like it more than I anticipated. It does feature a nice funky, Brett flavor up front. It’s a tad tart. A quality that is bolstered by the cherry presence. Tannins and oak are obvious products of cabernet barrel aging. They taste really nice. There is a bit more Porter in the flavor. Roasted malts, light dark chocolate, and coffee are all present. Nonetheless, they take a back seat to the barrel and wild yeast flavors. Not that that’s entirely a bad thing. Alcohol is noted, but doesn’t seem to be 10% (as indicated on the label). Finishes with a mix of tannins, oak, cherry, and funk.

Cab Cherry Man has a body that’s on the lighter side of medium. It feels a little thin. Carbonation is so light that bubbles are not noticeable. More would definitely be good. Having said all that, it is tasty, easy drinking.

Jackie O’s has an interesting little creation with Cab Cherry Man. I like it, but I’d like it more with a couple of tweaks. An insufficient amount of bubbles is the biggest problem. I also wouldn’t mind more Porter evidence in the nose and flavor. That seems a little lost in the mix here. Good stuff though..and very unique.

My brother traded for this one. Thanks bro. And thanks to the trader. Poured into a snifter. Pours a dark black. No head or signs of carb. Hopefully it's not flat. Slight legs.

Aroma has a nice funk and lacto sourness. You can smell some of the porter characteristics too. Bit of the cherry. Bit of the cab

Tastes the same. But it's missing some flavor or something. Needs to be more well rounded. You get the sourness and the funk at first but then some of that porter roastyness and chocolate comes through. Nice and sour in the finish.

Mouthfeel is super dry but very low carb. Needs alot more carb IMO. Just tickles the tongue a bit.

Overall it's ok. It's worth a try but not what he gave up to get it. Good thing we got something else in the trade too.

Presentation: Poured from a 22 oz bomber into a wine glass. How cool is it to sit at home and pour Brad's beers from a bottle? Label is the barrel-aged one from recent bottling. Jackie O's written at top with two barrels flanked by leaves underneath. Bottled 11/22/2009. Bottle 98/156. I don't know a lot about this one, but it is listed as "Barrel Aged Cabernet Cherryman" on the website. No description.

Appearance: Pours with minimal head, just some flecks of light tan foam. This settles quickly, leaving what looks like a dark glass of wine. Medium brown in color with strong tint of red.

Smell: Strong sour cherry overtones with hints of dark candy sugar.

Taste: Nice, pleasant tartness upfront, followed by sour cherries and a slight sweetness in the middle. Slight vinous quality, though faint enough that I might just be influenced by the description. Finishes dry and mouth puckering.

Mouthfeel: Average carbonation level, good level to deliver the tartness without being too biting. Body is good.

Drinkability: Still learning about thee world of sours, but so far I have liked the sour level of beers I find at Jackie O's. Enough to be interesting and compliment the fruit flavors without tearing up my mouth or stomach. I would definitely have this one again, but with the number so f beers Brad is making, i seldom seem to get the same thing twice when I am down there.

Pours a murky brown with minimal carbonation. Nice viscosity and sticky cling to the glass. Smells of funky cherries and graham cracker. Taste has nice acidic bite but after a few sips melds right into the rich chocolate and tart cherriy flavors. Mouthfeel is vinous and full bodied, yum. Delightful beer that gets better and better until the last drop.

another of the great box of Jackie O bottles received from rhinos00 .... Alex... you're becoming a nice point of conversation in the Galt household.... You are a good man.

Out of all the bottles Alex shipped me and the bro, this is the one that I most wanted to share with the buddies.

Bottle #80/156.

Deep reddish brown in the glass.... descent tan head... okay retention... pretty.

The aroma is alot better than the chunga... vinous ... dark sweet cherries.... nice vinegar backdrop... oaky... some vanilla shows on later pours.

Flavor is very fruity... tons of deep cherry in the front.. tart tannic cherry skins pull out of the sweetness.. hints of chocolate and some roasty notes come through.. again.. the barrel shows in the middle to the finish.. elegant while still being a powerhouse... I can definitely see the wine barrel aspects.. better body than the chunga and the carbonation seemed about right... I could drink this for a very long time without getting bored.

Thanks again Alex... You hooked it up.

pours a lovely dark brown, nearly black with a fluffy tan head that caps the top of the glass nicely coating the sides and really making it look the part.

dark chocolate and oak, mingled with deep cherries and grape, raspberry and dark fruit notes, sour with changing flavors twirling around. its hard to get a grip on this beer! lots of chocolate coming through as it warms, the blend of sour fruits and sweet chocolate malts is intoxicating.finishes off with the subtlest of dryness and lovely sour flavors. looking back it is easily the best i have had from them. the fruit just melds soo well into the body of the malts it is amazing.

overall this is something that has to be tried. I was soo thriled to sit and sip on this one.
