On-tap at the 2011 release. Review from notes.

3.5 A: Ripened plum color. Came with no head, so no comments there.

4.0 S: Cherry is prominent. Lactic tanginess, lightly medicinal, lightly astringent. Seductively sweet, which works with the tartness. Lots of JO's house character.

4.5 T: Oak, some vanilla. Good amount of tart cherry. Again, good sweet to sour ratio. Light acetic acid. Vinous grape.

4.0 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Part prickly, part creamy and all smooth.

4.5 D: Well made and tasty. Complex and refined.

Thanks to BMan1113VR for providing this bottle. Bottle 50 of 156.

Pours dark brown with an off-white head. The aroma is dark fruit with some coffee and roasted malt. Tons of cherry flavor with some roasted malt in the aftertaste. Some vanilla and oak notes as well. Medium mouthfeel and low carbonation.

another of the great box of Jackie O bottles received from rhinos00 .... Alex... you're becoming a nice point of conversation in the Galt household.... You are a good man.

Out of all the bottles Alex shipped me and the bro, this is the one that I most wanted to share with the buddies.

Bottle #80/156.

Deep reddish brown in the glass.... descent tan head... okay retention... pretty.

The aroma is alot better than the chunga... vinous ... dark sweet cherries.... nice vinegar backdrop... oaky... some vanilla shows on later pours.

Flavor is very fruity... tons of deep cherry in the front.. tart tannic cherry skins pull out of the sweetness.. hints of chocolate and some roasty notes come through.. again.. the barrel shows in the middle to the finish.. elegant while still being a powerhouse... I can definitely see the wine barrel aspects.. better body than the chunga and the carbonation seemed about right... I could drink this for a very long time without getting bored.

Thanks again Alex... You hooked it up.

Another rare growler from markwise.

A: pours an amberish shade of brown with a rather small off white head. No retention or lace.

S: Nice sweet cherry juice with hints of tartness. Light roasted chocolate malt and oak.

T: Sweet and tart cherries. Some sweet juice and some under cherries as well. Notes of red wine, vinegar, roasted malt and light oak.

M: Medium in body light on the carbonation.

D: Damn good beer.

22oz bottle (163/384), courtesy of Puddintane, into a tasting glass. Shared at a tasting.

A: Black body with a 1/2" of fine tan head. Good retention, spotty lace. Intense.

S: Sour cherries, light chocolate, vinous oak. Sweet + sour, nice fruit. Lovely.

T: Follows the nose: rich cherry sweetness, dry vinous oak, light chocolate. Nicely sour, with enough fruit and malt to balance the tartness beautifully. Simple, straightforward, and totally delicious.

M: Sharply carbonated medium body. Lively and frothy.

O: I've really enjoyed all the Jackie O's beer's I've had so far, and this one was no exception. All the elements meshed elegantly, providing a beer with both intensity and balance. The 9% was nowhere to be seen, too. Excellent sour.

Cheers!

Bottle shared by keefD at our recent La Crosse sour tasting, thanks Keith! Split into some snifters with a few people:

A - Dark brown, plum color at the sides. Redish hues and that nice purple highlights. Light carbonation with a few bubbles on the outside.

S - Great cabernet notes. Red wine dominates, followed by sour cherries, cranberries, plums, purple grapes and a nice funk.

T - Red wine, cherries and sour funk. Plums, acidity, cranberries and oak. Bits of vanilla scattered throughout.

M - A pretty sour, drying feeling with some tartness mixed in. The carbonation is not too bad.

O - Really an interesting sour to try. Most of the featured brews we had at our tasting were more light in color and flavor, while I guess this one could be considered the dark sour of the party. Really great and worth trying again.

On tap at the Jackie O's One Funky Afternoon event. Served in a tulip. This was my favorite of the event.

Pours a reddish-brown color with a thin tan head and a bit of lacing. Nose: Damn, this is going to be a good one. Great cherry and wine combo hits at the front with a mild tannic character. I can tell this is going to be dry and sour. A bit of light roast is left underneath. Barrel shines through as well, particularly as it warms up. The flavor is masterfully blended with a nice complexity consisting of oak, tannin, acid, cherries, roast, and a bit of red wine. Feel is light to medium with a tart, dry finish. Bit of funk comes through in the end. The barrel character is really apparent in this one. Absolutely fantastic. Can't wait to get into my bottles of this.

#133/384

A - Dark brown body, red light through edges, lingering tan head.

S - light tartness, wood, cherry...really beautiful. Some balancing sweet notes.

T - A light cherry tartness on the front combines nicely with roasted malts and followed quickly by a stronger sour flavor which is actually complemented by the alcohol. A great combo.

M - Smooth, medium-full bodied, a touch drying.

O - A really good beer. Very nice things, very well combined, nice subtleties and nuances that are all very complementary. A brilliantly crafted beer.

pours a lovely dark brown, nearly black with a fluffy tan head that caps the top of the glass nicely coating the sides and really making it look the part.

dark chocolate and oak, mingled with deep cherries and grape, raspberry and dark fruit notes, sour with changing flavors twirling around. its hard to get a grip on this beer! lots of chocolate coming through as it warms, the blend of sour fruits and sweet chocolate malts is intoxicating.finishes off with the subtlest of dryness and lovely sour flavors. looking back it is easily the best i have had from them. the fruit just melds soo well into the body of the malts it is amazing.

overall this is something that has to be tried. I was soo thriled to sit and sip on this one.

Bomber, poured into my CCB tulip.

A: Dark brown, pretty much opaque. the pour created a nice finger and a half of tan head that faded and left spotty lace.

A: Very complex aroma consisting of cherrys, oak, red wine, and chocolate. The hop charctaristics are almost non existant. But the the sourness will be prevelant in the taste.

T: Sour cherries mixed with chocolate. I get a nice blend of the oak barrels and the sweet chocolate. Notes of vanilla, caramel, and more dried fruit with a distinct lactic sourness. Finishes dry, sour, and slightly sweet.

M: Full body, perfect amount of carbonation.

O: This is one fantastic brew. I ususally am not one for dark sours, but I will make an exception in this case. The sweet sourness is a pleasure, and the base porter is something I could have many of on it's own. Well worth seeking out. Skal.

Pours a dark mahogany with shades of crimson and amber. Thin tan head.

Nose has tart and sweet cherries, chocolate, roasty malts, molasses, oak, red wine and subtle barnyard funk.

Taste has fresh, mountain cherries up front and through the finish along with a dark malts, cocoa, farmyard funk and red wine barrels.

Clean body is full yet crisp and dry through the finish. Very nice soft carbonation.

Great balance, well done.
