The beer has a big aroma of a guava, mango, dried citrus and a light bready malt.

The flavor follows with juicy pineapple, mango with a heavy pine and citrus pith bitterness. Digging into the beer more, the beer leans towards heavy bitterness as the fruity hop notes begin taking a backseat.

A well done IPA.

Enjoyed this brew on tap at Jackie O’s brewpub in Athens Ohio out of a pint glass.

A: Pours a clear golden hue with a white head that slowly dissipates leaving a decent trail.

S: Crisp hoppy aroma.

T: Solid bitter hoppy flavor from beginning to end.

M: Medium body and medium carbonation.

O: Decent IPA – worthy of a try.

I wasn't able to give this a proper examination as I was eating while I was drinking it but I can say that this was an average IPA. It left me wanting something more. Overall it was just average. The appearance was that of an average IPA, just as the other aspects. The taste was conservative for an IPA, almost like a starter beer to get people interested in IPAs. I have had pale ales that had more hoppiness to them but overall not a bad beer, just an average IPA.

I had this on-tap during the 7th anniversary celebration. Served in a tasting glass.

Appearance: The beer pours a slightly cloudy amber color with a layer of fluffy off white carbonation. The head fades to a ring around the pour.

Smell: Citrus peel hops with just a touch of malt sweetness in the background. Definitely a west coast style IPA. There is a touch of sweet tangerine along with the hops.

Taste: The hop bitterness hits the tongue right away and reminds me of grapefruit peel and is a bit grassy. Quite bitter, especially in the finish. There is a just enough malt sweetness to balance the bitter, but the hops star.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: I thought this was a nice enough IPA. The bitterness is intense and the beer is good.

Appearance: Arrives with a hazy amber color capped by a rather modest head that still curtains the pint glass

Smell: Grapefruit capped with a spoonful of sugar

Taste: Sugar-coated grapefruit, up front, with a bitter citrusy pith flavor developing by mid-palate; after the swallow, the flavors continue though there is a lingering sweetness

Mouthfeel: Medium to full body with moderate carbonation

Overall: Another nice IPA, though I prefer a little less residual sweetness in the finish

A - Hazy orange colored beer with decent retention that left a little bit of lace on the side.

S - Nice citrus on the nose, some sugar malts, fruit, bit of hops.

T - Decently bitter with some citrus and grapefruit notes. Good tropical fruit with some pine resin on the end for some bitterness.

M - Medium bodied with moderate carbonation.

O - Easy to drink IPA with some good flavors. This is something that I could drink regularly.

On tap in a pint glass at Bodega on 2/12/11

Dull, burnt amber color. Small layer of foam thins quickly. Skimmed retention. A bit of drippy lace.

Airy, floral hop aroma is punctuated by sweeter malt aspects. There's something akin to candy sweetness in there. Hints of earth and pine. Tastes similar - floral hops with a bit of earthiness and pine bitterness. Not quite astringent, but the bitterness grows. Toasty, bready notes. Candy notes, too. Seems to come together better as it warms. Kind of. Medium body with moderate carbonation. Dry and astringent, finishing a tad harsh with the bitterness.

Drinkability is ok. It could be a lot better.

Poured a nice hazy straw gold with a nice white head.
Smells of strong spicy hops with just a hint of malt sweetness. There's some mild citrus and pine as well.
Taste is spicy and dry, not very sweet. Nice carbonation level releases the hops well. There's some earthy grass, pine and very mild orange rind.
Feels rich and smooth with the carbonation lending a nice tingle in the throat. Overall a nice, spicy, hoppy brew.

Big bad IPA. Light color and body with an extreme hop profile. Very much a west coast IPA with the Brad spin on it. Very unique malt profile, almost like a nilla wafer with pine and citrus galore on the finish. Very quaffable and always a treat when in Athens.

On tap at Bodega.

A- Pale gold with a thin haze and minimal head. Spotty lace.

S- The smell is the best part. Its very sweet, full of orange and candied citrus. A little but of malt.

T- Too bitter with mostly pine and astringent, almost medicinal hops. Some citrus but much less than the nose leads on.

A: Hazy golden amber, with one finger of foamy white head, and good lacing.

S: Tons of floral and tropical citrus hops going on here, with a good deal of sweet caramel malts. (I know it's advertised as a West Coast IPA, but the strong, sweet malts were not unwelcome.) Very enjoyable.

T: Bitter hops most of all- lots of grapefruit, along with floral and earthy flavors. Light caramel sweetness on the finish gives this a pleasant balance.

M: Medium-bodied and well carbonated, with a foamy, tingly palate coating finish.

D: I could have drank a few glasses of this, if it wasn't the amazing tap selection at their Feb. 5th stout/big beer fest.

On tap at the brewpub on December 30, 2010.

Pours a slightly-hazed moderate golden color with a good white head and a bit of lacing as it goes down. The nose is quite nice with quite a bit of tropical fruits as well as some strong citrus and a bit of pine. The flavor isn't quite is in-your-face, but the hop flavor and bitterness mix well together with a touch of malt in the background. Good body and a nice overall bitterness level. Good drinkability.

Like an earlier review said, a little watery for an IPA -- which I like -- not too much carbonation.

Almost a West Coast IPA taste, but I get just a touch of a little deeper, earthier taste here than classic WstCst brews.

A little "hard water" aftertaste that I really like.

Great beer.

Btw, I believe the page description is off on the ABV. I'm guessing more like the 7% Jackie O's claims.

On tap into a snifter at the barrel aged fest...A light peach pour, good retention, but low lacing, a little watery...The aroma is lots of candied sugar, apricot, light hops...The taste is grapefruit on the front then a really nice strong hop flavor. A very good ipa, easy to drink.

I had this on tap at the Jackie O's brewpub this weekend. It pours a light golden color, slightly hazy, with a poofy foam that lays nicely on the liquid.

The hops take the lead aromatically, to my nose a west coast / midwest blend of hops. Amarillo comes through strongest I think, but otherwise maybe Simcoe. Pine needles and grapefruit, exactly what you want in this style. The hops are the show-case flavor-wise too, leading with abrasive citrus tones and ending with an almost chalky bitterness that was a little much for me. A little diacetal might have been in there too, without which I'd score the taste even higher. At no point to the malts come close to balancing out the hops, which is great for an IPA to suit my tastes.

The body is creamy and a little sticky feeling, an almost resinous mouthfeel even at a low-ish ABV. I decided I'd spent too much on Jackie O's bottles to buy a growler of this, and now I regret the decision. When I get back to Athens I'm definitely picking up some of this to go.

A: Hazy, amber. Nice lacing

S: Earthy and light malt.

T: Spicy bitterness and a touch of citrus hops

M: this is where it really kicks in. Smooth and creamy, though resinously hoppy. That is one balanced mouthfull. First beer at jackies, and it left a postive impression.

D: Flattens as you drink it. Not superb as a sessioner, great if a sample

A- Pours a slightly hazy golden orange color with a white head. Head has great retention and left quite a bit of lacing behind.

S- Chalk board says this is their west coast IPA and yep they aren't kidding. A ton of tropical fruits all over the place. Just a touch of a malt back bone here.

T- Again dominated by tropical fruit with just a tiny bit of a malt back bone here. Very solid IPA, nice hoppy and bitter. I like it.

M- Medium in body and carbonation.

D- This is super easy to drink and very solid. I could of drank this one all day long.

Made my first in-person trip down to Jackie O's this Valentine's weekend for my birthday. Needless to say, I was quite excited and encountered an impressive lineup.

Appearance- Pours a slightly hazy golden with about a finger of white head that sticks around for a bit before dying back to a thin coating. Some small amounts of lacing left.

Smell- Wow, smells like a west coast IPA here! Lots of huge grapefruit and pineapple notes dominate the nose. Smells very tropical and creamy.

Taste- Up front with lots of grapefruit rind and pineapple. Almost devoid of any notes of pine or resin from the hops, really dominated by a fruity juiciness that surprised me. Finishes with a nice drying hop punch.

Mouthfeel/Drinkability- Mouthfeel is creamy and smooth with a solid amount of carbonation. Drinkability is excellent and I could have sessioned this one if I hadn't want to try a variety of the other beers being offered.

Overall, possibly the best IPAs I've ever had at a small brewpub. Really quite good and paired with the Matriarch DIPA were probably the best beers of the evening.

Can from Peter's free beer week. Thanks! Pours a slightly hazy orange yellow color with a small white head on top. Aroma of strong grapefruits, pine, more sweet citrus. Flavor is mostly pine bitter up front with a sweet citrus rind on the back end that lingers for a good while. Light yet resinous with medium carbonation and a nicely crisp finish. Solid crushable IPA.

Poured into a perfect pint.

3.75 A: Lightly hazed light orange color. Two fingers of frothy off-white head. Retention is good and nearly a finger of lacing is left.

3.5 S: Lot of hops in this. Piney, earthy, and grassy notes first. Grapefruit followed by some light orange citrusy notes. Toasty malts, on the drier side, with a few touches of caramel.

3.5 T: Taste follows the nose. Lots of hops, fairly dry, and pungent. Resiny hops with pine, earth, and grapefruit. Lightly citrusy. Toasty, caramel.

3.5 M: Lighter medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Very drinkable.

3.5 D: Solid IPA.

First brew from Jackie O's. I was initially skeptical of the canning process - thought it would taste weird, but I was wrong. It's excellent, and I'm looking forward to trying their other beers.

Can poured into pint glass...

Appearance: orange hue with 2 finger white head; initial tree line lacing
Smell: fruit mixed with dank hops; similar to Head Hunter
Taste: reminded me of Head Hunter at first, maybe a little lighter and fruitier
Mouthfeel: smooth on the palate, dry finish
Overall: amazing! looking forward to having this on tap. Ohio is spoiled: we really put out some great IPA's

Pours a very nice golden clear orange with a smaller off white head the quickly dissipates into a thin ring with some spotty lacing. Smells of pine, resin and some fruity undertones. A hint of malt comes through too. Flavor is bit light compared to the aroma. Light to medium body, a bit thin. Bitterness on the finish that also lingers a bit. Overall a nice IPA.

Incredibly delicious. Has a great taste and mouthfeel. It reminds me of a Bell's Hopslam, but better in flavor. (The price is way better too) I would drink this as my go to IPA if I cannot find some of the others that I prefer. This is what an IPA should taste like - well done.

Can > Pint Glass

A - Murky dark dirty gold with a finger of white foamy head, medium spotty lacing.
S - Nice aroma, pine, grassy, earthy, floral notes, a little citrus and orange juice underneath.
T - Big bready malt, nice pine background, a little grassy and earthy tones to the hops.
M - Decent feel, medium body, nothing really noteable.
O - Good IPA, not something to write home about, but its rather fresh tasting, even though its run-of-the-mill kinda stuff. I'd have it on tap for sure.
