04/02/11- Had this one on-tap at Jackie O's "one funky afternoon."
A: Very dark brown with light brown hues and a decent cream collar with lacing.
S: Cherry, intense pear, brown sugar, slight milk chocolate, and overall rustic. Awesome.
T: Pear, cranberry, white wine, brown sugar, raisins, and a bitter sour apple core finish. Good.
M: Frothy, thinner, and dry.
O: Really good. This is probably my favorite JO's American wild. Had this one on tap a few times and in bottles and I'm consistently impressed.

2011 bottle shared with AwYeh - thank you son.

A: Opaque, extremely dark maroon body. Head is a light whitish-brown and stays around for a while after receding initially.

S: A kind of generic plain sour smell, but still pleasant. Beer specific sour smell is upfront followed by punchy fruity sourness. Pretty muted smell overall.

T: Caramel laced with the sour fruit up front is interesting. Tastes like a granny smith apple, and the caramel doesn't offer sweetness, just the burnt aspect of caramel. Briefly has a spell of hoppy bitterness, but it is shortlived, and a nice interlude.

M: Slightly fizzy, gets creamily foamy halfway through the sip. Leaves a nice sticky feel afterwards. Very pleasant feeling to savor sips with.

O: Solid sour, but unremarkable in terms of specific taste. It would have helped if I had a clearer handle on what quince tastes like, but the fruit aspect wasn't as forward as I would've liked. Still a good beer though.

Bottle shared courtesy of my good friend Jesse13713 who I attended the original bottle release with; unsure of the bottle number but I'll update if I can figure it out. Reviewed from two sets of notes.

A: The most noticeable thing about this beer is its large, tan, frothy head, standing atop a maroon-tinged deep brown body. Really great looking beer, very unique while keeping everything in great proportion with another.

S: Sweet and sour tangy flavors are all over the place. I've never eaten anything with quince in it that I can remember, but growing up we had a quince tree in our backyard, and the flavors here are distinctly reminiscent of the times I snuck tastes of the quinces from that tree.

T: Very powerful, tangy fermented fruit taste shows up first with a sharp caramel sweetness following. Lots of plum and oak flavors; I was very impressed with the balance. The finish is very long and sour, quite enjoyable.

M: Very dry and sharp; lightly carbonated. Honestly, mouthfeel is good here, but since it doesn't detract from the beer at all, it's hardly an accessory with the strong flavor that Quincedence offers.

O: This is a good and strong sour. The two glasses of it that I've had didn't seem particularly diverse from sip to sip, but that didn't detract from its greatness as a beer. If you're at Jackie O's and they have it around again, or if you're lucky enough to have a bottle, I highly recommend it.

22 oz bottle poured into The Bruery snifter. Good carbonation, not much lacing or retention.

Aroma is fruity, kind of raisin or prune like, sourness apparent. Getting some chocolate and roast.

Flavor is good in the beginning and middle but has a weird lingering aftertaste. Gets smoky as it warms, a medium amount of roast. The aftertaste ruins the beer for me, medicinal or something off. Not terrible but not worth seeking out either.
