Had this on the day of the June 25th release. Received in a short Munich glass.

4.0 A: Black color. Small, short lived beige head.

4.5 S: Coffee running the show. Next is dark caramel, moderate roastiness, and molasses. Just the smallest hint of booze.

5.0 T: The coffee makes this insanely good. This is much like the not coffee version, but the coffee integrates extremely well and elevates the brew to the top tier. Strong caramel, moderate roastiness, and milk chocolate. Blackstrap molasses underneath. Rich, but barely boozy with a subtle warming after the finish.

5.0 M: Heavy body. Good moderate carbonation. Great creaminess without too much booze burn.

5.0 D: Likely the best of the Dark Apparition family. So incredibly tasty while keeping the booze to an unreasonably low level.

dark black in color with a completely opaque and dark look to it. Rich tan colored head rose up to at least an inch and a half before settling down into a whispy cloud on top and tons of side glass lacing, perfect. The aroma was sublime, rich cocoa and coffee notes that swirled together effortlessly wth light hints of oak and rich sweet smells just swirling about it. As I took the first sip I nearly fell over. This is what I have been looking for in a big coffee stout. INSANE. Rich coffee flavors that were perfectly balanced against the rich oak and chocolate notes

On tap at Jackie O's on 8/27/11

Irresponsible Tick #11

Inky brown/black. No head at all; no jokes here. Aroma - booze and burnt sugars. Ya guessed it - burnt molasses, chocolate and a smudge of coffee. Room temperature burnt sugars to the mix - snarly molasses. Thick, slow-moving body with basically no carbonation. This beer is intense and gnarly. Sediment!!!

Paired side-by-side with the regular Iced Apparition.

This one looks like the rest of the Dark App beers. Black with very little head on it. The Coffee Iced App seemed a little more thin looking that the others.

Wow does this smell wonderful. Loads of coffee aroma with plenty of roasty malts beneath. Warm, inviting French roast aromas made this quite pleasant to be sipping in the early morning at the release.

Tastes just as great. Super strong coffee flavor, but it doesn't show any of the astringency or overt bitterness some coffee beers exhibit.

the mouthfeel is quite thick, warming, and sticky. But most perplexingly, this beer is smooth. Baby's ass smooth. The abv feels like 6% less than the non-coffee iced Apparition.

Overall I really enjoyed this. It was really interesting to see how much the coffee mellowed out the alcohol here.

Poured a dark brown color with a minimal frothy brown head that lasted with excellent legs. Moderate to heavy roasted dark chocolate, coffee and alcohol aroma. Heavy dark roasted sweet coffee flavor with a heavy sweet and alcohol bite finish of long duration. Full body with a smooth texture and flat carbonation. This is a standout beer.

Enjoyed on-tap at Jackie O's release, 8/27/11.

A - black and thick with no head, no ring or cap; very little lacing
S - french roasted coffee or espresso; slightly earthy smell from DA base; some light toffee
T - wow. super rich and creamy coffee flavor up front; some vanilla warming alcohol near the end that is almost like bourbon; pretty much coffee and cream throughout
M - low-medium fine carbonation; thicker than the regular DA - body is on the heavy side but not sludgy
D - really enjoyed this one; this took the base in a nice direction and the combination of coffee and cream or lactose in such a dark beer is surprising and delicious; very drinkable for ABV and body

super thick black pour with a slight espresso head bubbling up. black as night with no hint of light making it through. Nose is of heat, coffee and sweet cocoa and various other sugar smells. Taste is cool and crisp at the front. Not sure what was in here to give the impression of ice (maybe mint) but it is solid and well presented. Cooling taste is followed by cocoa, maple and coffee....lots of coffee. bitterness from a slight hop finish and the coffee notes is a nice balance to sweetness from the malt and smells. very thick feel here and good low level of carb is just enought to fit the profile. very good beer.

On tap at Jackie O's Brewery Side at the June release. Tasted side by side with regular Ice Apparition.

Appearance
This stuff is essentially sludge. Super thick and slow. My pour, and I'm guessing many other pours, had a lot of specks of coffee grounds and other sediment. I found it a little funny that Brad asked me if my glass had chunks in it before I even asked what was up with it. At least the man is brutally honest and up front about his beers and any "issues" that might affect them. There was no head, but lots of legs as the beer basically dissolved the glass it was served in.

Aroma
The coffee aroma in this beer is quite harsh, brash and rash. It (the coffee) is very acidic. The beer boasts tons and tons of that dark fruitiness that Dark Apparition has, only way more pronounced and more rich. Surprisingly, alcohol is very mild. How's that work?

Taste
Lots and lots of extreme fruits squeezed down into a very small area. Its very vinous with lots of dark berries. Even the coffee is fruity, with all its raw acidity. The beer "seems" alcoholic, but barely tastes like the monster that it is. Its barely boozy at all, but the notion of all that concentrated alcohol is in the back of you mind at all times.

Mouthfeel
My theory here is that someone told Brad that Dark Apparition wasn't full bodied enough. He then made this monster and the critic drowned in his own words. This stuff is massively full bodied. Really, really thick and smooth. Carbonation is about as low as it can go without being flat, and even then this beer would drink just fine. I can't figure out where all the alcohol heat is, its simply not there.

Overall
Yeah this one is a monster. The biggest, craziest beer at Jackie O's. The coffee version hides the alcohol even better than the regular Ice App. Good stuff. I hope its there the next time I make it to Jackie O's.

32oz swing-top shared by Kan, thanks! Poured into Bruery tulip.

A - Pours black, light tan-colored head, thin collar, some spots on top of the beer.

S - Huge robust dark coffee beans, chocolate, roast. Smells exactly like an iced coffee, no doubt about it. No booze notes, which is impressive (I hear this is something like 15%?).

T - Not as coffee-forward as the nose suggests. Rich chocolate, coffee beans, expresso, slight oak, roast, caramel. The alcohol is noticeable but not overly hot, by any means. Dark chocolate/coffee sweet/bitter finish.

M - Medium to full, perhaps a touch too light, very little carbonation but it doesn't take away because of the style. A creamy oaky finish.

O - The nose on this beer is top-notch but it falls a little short on the palate. That said, all aspects of this beer are very enjoyable. If you like booze and coffee, you'll like this one.

Pours a nice brown with rddish hues on the corner. Smells coffee heavy with lots of sweet malt on the backbone. Tastes a bit tart from the dark fruits with a ton of coffee. The booziness is nicely hidden but still apparent. Pretty potent but overall very solid. Is is a huge brew with a top notch profile
