This was poured from a twelve ounce bottle into an imperial int glass. Dark with a thin tan head. Nose has a nice tartness along with dark malts, candy, figs, oak and whiskey. Great flavor profile, nice depth and complexity. Medium body has a crisp carbonation. Really great stuff. I think this is a style that should be attempted more often.

Tried the Figgy Smalls during the last bottle sale at Jackie O's. 6/25/2011

Appearance - Dark brown-black with chocolate head.

Smell - Vanilla and fig backed with sour.

Taste - Sweet and Sour. All of the chocolate, coffee, vanilla, raisin, toffee, malty, nutty flavors of Dark Apparition with figgy sour addition. Nice bitter chocolate finish.

Mouthfeel - What you would expect from a Russian Imperial Stout.

Overall - An excellent combination of sweet and sour, would like the fig to come through a bit stronger.

From 12oz bottle to snifter at the Jackie O's bottle release on 6/25/11.
*From notes

A: Rich cherry brown to an almost ruby port black. The edges of the beer are absolutely gorgeous, as the robust figgy burgundy mixes with the epic black hole of the traditional Dark Apparition. Almost no head on an agressive pour - less then .25 fingers. Mild lacing follows.

S: Dark chocolate and warm figgy pudding. It's incredible. Dark vine fruit and rich charry malt linger in the nostrils for ages. It's unreal. It maybe the best bouquet I've ever encountered on any beer. Simply perfect.

T: The dark fruit hits the palate first, seeping into every corner of my mouth. Sun dried fig concentrate and a touch of acid fade slowly into the wrathful, dark side of the brew. The toasted, charry chocolate malt, sweet alcohol and a touch of bramble funk consume the palate from the mid to finish. Complex beyond measure and supremely balanced.

M: A bit more weight then the other Dark Apparition one-offs. This isn't meant to be motor oil, but rather a sipping beer that you can return to again and again. Nice carbonation, though it's a bit brash. The texture is slightly oily.

O: Brad Clark is an artist at the top of his game. He should be commended for the brewing clinic he's put on with this outstanding beer, which is the best of the Dark Apparition variations.

Jackie O's Figgie Smalls is so ridiculously, insanely good, it's scary. Every single brewmaster in America should taste this, as it'll have each and every one of them wetting their panties in fear. Figgie Smalls raises the Russian Imperial bar to insane heights, and should be required quaffing for every beer enthusiast in America.

From 12 oz bottles.

The beer pours with almost no head, deep color, almost black. It sticks to the glass like oil. The aromas are rich with dark fruit and chocolate. The fig stands out in the smell just enough and livens up the nose. The flavor is great, loads of red fruits and roasty chocolate and creamy coffee notes. Fig matches up very nicely with this base beer intensifying the sweet vinous front to the beer. There is a lot more weight to this one than many of the other treatments, very satifying. The finish is smooth and silky, lingering for a while. Great nano, I'd say try this one again in a bigger batch. I can only imagine the label for it.

12 oz no-label bottle at Jackie O's. Bottled for the pub only.

Something went incredibly RIGHT with this beer. This beer is as well balanced as the Jubel 2010 or FW 14. I suspect BC and the gang knows they hit it out of the park with this one. I bet we will see this in a labeled bomber before summer 2012. (I hope)

This beer needs to be shared with as many people as possible.
