Barking Pumpkin enjoyed on tap from Winking Lizard October 23, 2015.

Look - Dark hazy pumpkin for lack of better description. Off white head goes to nothing. Lacing only where head was.

Smell - Sweet pumpkin. Ginger. Cinnamon.

Taste - Pumpkin and ginger.

Feel - Subdued spice makes it more drinkable than other pumpkin beers. Sits better in stomach.

Overall - The best non dark pumpkin beer I've had. Drinkable and smooth. Still pumpkin.

On tap at JO's beer release 08/27/2011

Nice combo of fall spices.

Smooth for the ABV and has a better smell and mouth-feel than most beers of this style.

Medium body.

Slightly cloudy, similar to a Belgian wheat, but the color of burnt amber.

Good campfire beer.

375ml bottle poured into Jackie O's snifter

A- pours a deep ruby amber color with a small fizzy white head that disappears quickly, leaving nothing behind

S- the aroma is more malty than spicy, picking up some caramel notes, almost like caramelized pumpkin. Faint aromas of nutmeg and clove

T- sweet and malty base with caramel sweetness, also picking up a slight vegetal flavor. The spicing is hard to pick up, maybe a hint of cinnamon & nutmeg. Lots of booze on the finish that lingers for a while

M- heavy body with moderate carbonation leads to a foamy mouthfeel that turns slightly creamy before a warming boozy finish

O- this one has potential but it's pretty hot out of the gate. The spices are very subtle, leaving it to drink like a high ABV amber ale

12.7 ounce bottle, 2015 vintage. Served in a Jackie O's snifter, the beer pours a slightly hazy reddish/copper/orange color with about an inch off-white head. Head retention and lacing are both decent enough. Aroma is nice, the brew smells mostly like pumpkin spices (cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger), along with some caramel and a bit of vanilla. For the most part I think the flavor is similar to the aroma, but there's also some booze and a slight earthy hoppy bitterness noticeable too. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's a bit coating with a moderate amount of carbonation. I liked this, but maybe I should have aged it a little longer before I tried it. If you like pumpkin beers that aren't overly spiced, then this is one for you!

hazy tan/brown with cloudy specs of spice. mild tan head is foamy with good lacing. Smells of typical pumpkin spice with a good dose of yeast in the nose. Tastes are mild spices of clove, nutmeg cinnamon and brown sugar. Pumpkin doesn't really come through, just the spices associated with it. Crust like flavor from the yeastiness here makes itself known. Primarily a nutty flavor from a nut brown base. Medium light body that coats well but leaves little aftertaste.

Overall, nice flavors, but nothing spectacular. Looking for a bit more of a pumpkin flavor here, but the spices were a unique blend in terms of proportion. Solid spiced beer, but not strong in the pumpkin category.
