Notes/Commercial Description:
We took our Razz wheat and soured it with B. Lambicus, Pediocaccus, and Lactobacilious it was then blended with our Organic Honey Nut Brown. Then blend was keg conditioned for 6 months allowing the wild yeast and bacteria to gorge themselves on the sugar rich nut brown portion of the blend. This beer is ripe with complexities including a fruity, musty, beady, and leathery nose and a light caramel covered raspberry flavor that finishes very tart and semi dry.

Hazy reddish-brown pour, with a collar of off-white bubbles. In the nose, raspberries, lactic, acetic, woody, with a good dose of dark roasty malts. More of the same in the taste, tart raspberries, lacto and acetic qualities, leather and wood, toasted wheat, dark malts bringing in a touch of roastiness. A lot going on, and seemingly in contrast, but the end result was quite balanced overall. Medium body, lively carbonated. A nice brew all in all.

Thanks to rudzud for sharing.

Light fizzy head, dark mahogany brown color with plenty of ruby light.

Nose complex tart fruit, raspberries very nice, sour malts, malt vinegar, light caramel and cocoa, molasses, light barrel, etc.

Taste sour malts, malt vinegar, sour raspberry, tart fruits, dark malts like brown sugar and creamy brown malts, hint of molasses and caramel, nice overall sourness and a cranberry like tartness. Tart sticky finish tart sour malts and raspberry.

Mouth is med bodied, sticky little flemmy, decent carb.

Overall a nice beer, good dark malts with great raspberry fruit and good sour flavors, very well done and tasty.

Bottle (2012)

Thanks for opening this with me, BdubleEdubleRUN!

Dark rose and maroon. Lots of ruby tones. No clarity though--this beer is clouded with chunks of fruit. Very nice. I like!

Lots of berry character in the aroma, with big notes of oak, some lactic character, though not a ton, and a bit of dried grass.

Flavor is very fruit-forward as well, nearly juice like, if not for the complementary oak, earth, and moderate sour character. Very tasty.

Medium to full in body, especially for the style, with moderate carbonation.

Another winner from Jackie O's. Whales, bro.

Poured from the bottle into a Chimay goblet. This is bottle 59/380.

Appearance: The beer pours a clear mahogany color that has a strong red tint to it. There is a layer of off white head that quickly fades to a thin ring around the pour.

Smell: There is a strong sweet and sour component to this one. I'm getting sweet, jam like raspberries along with a tart vinegar note and some dark sour like funk.

Taste: There isn't as much sweet raspberry here as there was in the smell. The raspberries are still here, they just show up more in the tart component. There is a hint of vinegar along with the raspberries. There is just a touch of sweetness underneath the tart raspberries. The finish is sour.

Mouthfeel: The body is medium with aggressively tingly carbonation and a dry finish.

Overall: This is a very good raspberry sour. I would have liked a little bit more sweetness from the fruit in the taste, but I still really liked it.

Bottle next to the campfire after having picked up my bottles as Jackie O’s earlier in the day. Served in a wine glass. Pours a beautiful pink-red with a touch of a garnet hue. Nose is loads of fresh, tart raspberries alongside some lactic acid and restrained earthiness. Flavor is full of tart red raspberries. Behind those come some nice musty, earthy notes. Acidity in the background. Acid and fruit balance is quite nice, with enough funk to add the right amount of complexity. Very nice.

Bottle shared by yourefragile. At the time of this review this is #44 on the "Top Beers - American Wild Ale" list on beeradvocate.com. Served in a snifter.

Beer is brown and really hazy with a tan head of small bubbles, lazy, breaks quickly, pulls to the walls of the glass. No lacing, moderate to low carbonation.

Aroma is complex, oak, vinous, succinic and lactic with hints of a sharp acetic character.

Beer is nice, light in body tart on the finish. Effervescent on the palate with a relatively dry finish. I'd have it again. It sort of reminds me of consecration but not quite as good.

22oz bottle poured into a Jackie O's Munich glass

Pours a reddish amber with a thin, 1/2 finger beige head

Smells of funk and berries - sour/lacto, with a heavy dose of the razz wheat and a bit of roastiness as well

This is straight up tart, and really well balanced with the raspberry. Maybe a bit of oak/wood, but really predominately sour/lacto and berry. Definitely the tartest beer I have had from Jackie O's.

Mouthfeel is full and light at the same time (can that really work? - it does here) Nicely carbonated, truly a pleasure

Overall a fantastic sour and certainly my favorite that has been released by Jackie O's. I wish I had several more of these.

The beer was chilled and served in a snifter.

A- The body of the beer is a light brown coloration. The head was very short lived and quickly desolved. No lacing noted on my glass.

S- The aroma of the beer is loaded with semi sweet and tart raspberries. The aroma is lightly soured. A bit of chocolate and some leathery notes are present.

T- The beers flavor leads with tart raspberries. The sourness rides in on a raspberry tide. Well done.

M- The body of the beer is light. The carbonation is gentle. The beer has a very dry finish.

O- I am really enjoying the interplay of sour and tart raspberry flavors in this beer. The sourness of the beer never reaches oppresiveness. Frankly I was sad to see how fast this beer disappeared from my glass.
