Bottle 50/244. Poured into a goblet.

Pours a cloudy amber color with a golden hue. There is a ton of white head, the beer tried to jump out of the bottle a bit when I first opened it. The head fades eventually and leaves a ring around the pour. The smell is very light and full of funk and lemon juice like tartness. I'm also getting a mild white vinegar component. This one smells like a lambic. The taste Is sour, but not as biting as I expected from the smell. Funk and lemon juice show up here as well. There is also a fruity pineapple hint that I'm really digging. Tons of oak and the flavor gets more tart towards the finish. The mouthfeel is thicker than I expected with lots of tingly carbonation and an uber dry finish. I really loved the fruity notes along with the tartness. This was really good!

650 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2012 bottle 18/244.

Appearance - Gusher. Continues to foam out of control. Then no head. Murky and hazy golden body.

Smell - Jackie O's sours always have the dirtiest nose. This one is no exception, but it really hones in on the lemon and grassy funk. Some lambic elements to it. Definitely oaky.

Taste - Wow is it sour. Lactic sour, very lemony. Oaky right in the middle. Turns acetic as it progresses. Has a lot of lambic elements here as well. Flavor profile reminds me of Cuvee Rene.

Mouthfeel - Incredibly sour. Medium low carbonation and medium bodied.

Overall - Begs comparisons to a lambic, although it doesn't quite add up. Excellent for an American sour and probably the best sour from Jackie O's that I've had.

Poured into my Jackie O's modified tulip.

A: A cloudy copper beer with fizzy white bubbles that fade into nothing at all pretty rapidly. Average looking sour beer. Appearance is never a strength of these beers since the acidity instantly kills the head. Looks flat, even though I know it's not based on the gushing at the onset.

S: Grapes, vinegar, lactic acid...oranges/lemons, some funk in there as well...

T/M: Pretty puckering. This is tremendous. Medium bodied...obviously solidly carbed. A really nice sweetness. Oak tannins, vineous grape notes throughout. Very complex sour beer...loving every sip.

O: Tremendous. The gushing carbonation makes this beer for me...pushes the acidity all over my palate and makes every taste pop. Might be the best Jackie O's sour I've had...haven't had a ton, but enough to call this my favorite.

Pours cloudy gold with a big amount of carbonation. Not quite a gusher, but still tons of head. Little retention or lacing once the carbonation settles down.

Aromas feature lemon and an earthy funk. Some oak, but not overly oaky or sour. Maybe a bit of berry as well.

Starts out tart and lemony. Some musty funk in the middle before finishing with a little vinegar sourness and oak. Not as sour as I was expecting. More funk than straight pucker.

Medium bodied, but really carbonation is the bugaboo of this beer. Way waaaay too carbed. Had to let this one chill for an hour to even start to pick up any flavors as the massive carbonation ground all back end palate flavors to a fizz.

I'd like to see this one with an appropriate level of carbonation. There was some good stuff here although the beer title is a little misleading. I've had other Jackie O's beer with more "pucker" than this one and overall this is a rare miss from a brewery that normally produces sours I love.

Big thanks to rudzud for sharing, batch 1, batch 2012, bottle 238/244.

Erupts, but not too much, a big fizzy head fades almost instantly like it didn't actually exist, super hazy murky sediment laden like pulp just suspended in there, crazy, it has greyish pink grapefruit colored beer with actual pulp. It's so weird looking, i can't describe, if I didn't know what was underneath this pulp filled slightly coagulated pink grapefruit juice, I would probably shy from drinking it.

NOse is huge and super sour, tons of tart lambic like aromas, light berry like fruit but no real fruit, almost sour lemonade like, funk too, not a lot of funk but light lactobacillus or brett lambicus like, little yeasty too, with some light dusty cellar aroma. Then some wine, a med earthy red wine like shiraz or zinfindel like, with light barrel, and just a bit of a blond malt.

Taste super sour, gland explosion, like sucking on a lemon sour, then tart fruit, little berry like but no real fruit to finger, like a lambic mostly. Then funk, not a lot but some, little lambicus like and almost def lactobacillus with bit of creaminess and the big sour flavor. Light wine barrel, again the med red wine that starts light and eventually really comes through. The barrel really comes out as it warms and swirls around my mouth with toasty oak and lots of vanilla. Finish brings tons of dry bready dusty basement kinda finish, typical for a great lambic, with little flemmy, long sour flavor and little tart fruit, light vinous earthy wine and more barrel lingering.

Mouth is lighter bodied but normal for a wild, lots of carb, mouth puckering sour, little flemmy.

Overall very nice, almost on par with nice Belgian lambics. Very sour, great lambic sour qualities, nice dry bready dusty finish, earthy, funky, and even incorporates great wine and barrel flavors. This is the epitome of ugly ducking beer that look horrendous and turns into an amazingly awesome beer. The other one that comes to mind, that rudzud loves to reminisce about, is Filmishmish.

Poured from bottle into Cantillon gueuze class at a tasting on 01/04/2012. Thanks Photekut for opening this!

Immediately obvious that this is the most carbonated Jackie O's bottle I've seen, it was a gusher and poured a huge foamy head. Dense and hazy, yellowish straw color. Some odd reddish streaks running through the head.

Smells very sour, white grapes and wheat.

Taste is great, one of the best Jackie O's sours along with Cellar Cuvée 6 IMO. Very sour, lots of white grape/wine flavor. Not super funky like a lambic, it's pretty straight tartness. Finishes with wheaty brett flavor. Would give this a 4.25 if I could buy it's closer to 4.5 than 4.

Drinkability is good for a Jackie O's beer, plenty of carbonation for once.

Overall a great sour and one of Brad's better beers. This one is bottle conditioned and might actually develop with age.

8.4/10
